If it makes you feel any better, back in 1998 with about 5 games to go, dogs were 200-1 to make the top 10 (finals). 

I was going to put $5 on it for a $1000 return when my mate (ex dogs supporter who turned and went for knights from 1997 onwards) decided to take the bet himself. So I paid him $5. A couple of my other bulldog mates also took him on the bet.

Afew weeks later, the dogs beat Steelers in the Gong to finish 9th. Then it goes, Dragons, Bears, Newcastle, Parra (who could forget) and Dogs go to GF against Broncos.

So we buy him a GF ticket and he sits with us in bay 26 of SFS. As we are losing reserve grade GF, I make a comment that we will only win 1 GF that day. Soon after, the mock rears its head and a young Brent Sherwin playing at wing, slots an 8 point try conversion from out wide along with the one in front to win the reserve grade GF and me feeling nervous.

At halftime of the main GF with Bulldogs leading 22-10, my mate Con is half sheeting himself at the prospect of losing 6k in 3 bets so I offer him to just buy me a new Dogs jersey. 

In the end, we lose the GF and I lose the jersey or 2k win but I end up with a good story and memories if that nervous look my mate Con had. 

The grading/points system was brought in to bring consistency to the judicial process.  It's been an abject failure.  The process is still dependant on the competence of those administering it, and it ain't working.

Results going our way so ddar, but we need Souths to win.

Back in 1979 we lost to someone in the last round....someone we should have beaten and had to rely on another lowly team beating the Tigers..otherwise they would have jumped over us. 

From the first tackle, Jimmy the jet tried a swinging arm when tackling.

The moron followed it up with an unnecessary elbow to the head on Oates and was duly sin binned.

If I was Bennett I'd hook the prick.

Poms are batting like Poms... very enjoyable.

I rarely enjoy a Souths win, but that was great...

Overall it was quite an entertaining game.
But I get enough stress watching Bulldogs games that I didn't need the last 5mins....

On the contrary, we are bowling like Aussies..

I called Ripley's Believe it or Not and they told me f**k off...no one would believe that.

Halfway through the 1955 season Souths were in equal last place having won just three of nine matches. From that point they didn't lose another game, winning nine season encounters in a row before the finals. Eventually they finished fourth. Had they lost a single one of these games they would have missed the finals. They went on to win the comp. Records are made to be broken

I think we are at the stage where making the 8 is harder than going deeper into the 8.

Even our next game against the Cows, Matt Scott had a stroke after the last match and is in hospital in Brisbane..

They are hoping he can fly home to Townsville, and they are hoping he can make it out to the game for a special send off. 

This is huge, his team mates and the crowd will be super motivated, we are in the unfortunately position of being party poopers...

I like an respect Scott in any other circumstance, I would not overly mind losing, but we are walking the tight rope and need a win.

I don't see this game as any easier than the Parra game, it might get easier if we get on top, in fact the Cows might fall in a heap and we might put a score on them.
Normally I would be over the moon about that, but I've got mixed feelings, Matt Scott doesn't deserve a bad send off.

Losing a game of footy is not as bad as the send off he may have had...

Both results went our way last night. 

Parra will be reeling after their loss to us and have a good record against Broncos at suncorp. If they knock them off and we beat Cows, we play Broncos in final round to get to 24 points and 1 more than them. Quite possible now.

The issue though is Sharks, Penrith, Tigers, Knights and Warriors who have to either lose or strategically only win 1 game. 

In the AFL its last round and if Hawks beat West Coast tonight they are in the top 8 and finals bound with only Adelaide needing to beat Bulldogs tomorrow to ensure it stays that way. There is a chance they can get overridden by a Port Adelaide win, but as long as Port doesn't win by a large margin, it could all be down to the Adelaide vs Bulldogs game.

No different to other players who essentially retired midseason....Inglis, Farrah etc....

I'm not sure if we are still a mathematical chance, if we are it is a slim one...

We really should have banked a few wins earlier in the season.. and games like round 1 and round 5 where we got flogged cost us...

We're still alive, The current game going according to plan and in fact will get us to the next round still alive..

Prior to The Warriors losing we had a shot at 7th and 8th. Now it's just 8th.

And 8th is all we need.

Seeing as our options have narrowed, but still alive (if The Tigers go on with it) might even see better odds on Monday.

Maybe I jumped too early.

Tigers go on with this (and at 30-0 I'm pretty confident), we need:

RND 24: We beat Cows, Lemons beat Broncs, Easts beat Panthers, Titans beat Knights, Dragons beat Tigers.

RND 25: We beat Broncs, Sharks beat Tigers, Knights beat Panthers.

From there - we're Premiers.
