Disappointing we had them at 12 men and couldnt post points.

This team is devoid of game management and knowing when to take opportunities.

The team got themselves back in the game and had every chance to take the lead but keep shooting themselves in the foot.

We have another 4 or 5 minutes with 12 men in the second half, let's hope we can score.

Our line speed in both defense and attack is still rather slo-mo. The Dogs need to pick up the pace a fair bit and can easily win this if they apply themselves.

This is where I fire a fvcking rocket up the ref. Blatent preferential treatment given to the peptides. I wont watch this game any further as I doubt we will be allowed to get back into it even if we were capable of doing so.

Holland did more at 9 for the 20mins he was on tonight than JMK has done all season.

Averillo is a gun

Elliott playing super well.

Wakeham did fekk all unfortunately & Reimis Smith offers fark all too. Our defensive reads on the flanks was awful which lead to 4 simple tries.

Forget the Ref, bad decision by Foran, he knew he was pinged.

My beef is why are Jacko and RFM playing wide and never pass the ball, always looking to break the line ang get the miracle offload.
Rhemis Smith never got a clean ball, nor did DWZ and only about one or two to Averillo.

BTW, has anyone ever seen Smith break a tackle or was he not on the field.

We are the only team that can not go wide and get the ball to the wings or have some sort of play. Too easy to defend against.
Every time Wakeham had the ball the attack was  flat and the defence was in our face.
An intercept and a fluke kick kept us in the game.

Close game in the end.
We did alright but just needed to not let them get out to beyond a try.

This game proved a few food things.
a) Holland is good at dummy half and offers some good variation in our play.
b) Tolman not needed. This group of forwards were actually able to make metres forward.
c) Wakeham did well.
d) offloads provide us with good 2nd phase play and we should use them more even with the risk of losing ball (especially in opposition half)

The bad side of things is:
1) Hoppa too slow at fullback and costs us return metres either fielding the ball or returning it (if he even gets out of in goal)
2) Smith is not a centres arsehole and should play wing or nothing.
3) we cant seem to defend any kick behind our wings (refer to 1 and 2 for reasons)
4) we still dont have the football nous or game management skills to take advantage of situations
5) sharks are a bottom 8 team but we still managed to lose to them

Wakeham never had a chance because of the flat attack. Targeted by the defence.
BTW our only real try was set up by him.
Pay is relying on RFM, RT and Elliot to play outside the halves and offload but it never happens because we are too flat.
Averillo never gets clean ball, either does Smith but he is not a centre, just gets smashed every time.

Wakeham didn't throw many dud passes, he needs to improve his kicking.

Overall it was a better effort.

We need to work out why we are short on the edges, all lot of it is middle fowards not getting into position.

I think Crichton and Averillo can improve their defence, going for the intercept is sometimes a good option.

Hoppa doesn't have the speed / fitness to cover the kicks to the winger, so we need to stop it before it happens.
Probably need to be up even faster on their playmakers.

Those 6 again calls killed us, the one by Foran was a dumb play, we need to practice working with the new rules.

Overall good effort, but lots of problems that need fixing.

Give Wakeham a few games,  he threw a nice pass for our first try, he needs to run more and kick better. Looked like a young guy learning the ropes, no surprise.

The penalty and his sin bin were a joke. Closer to the touch line no one complains.

I agree we need to stand deeper, move the ball faster and get early ball to our centres.

Hoppa is slow but is otherwise solid, Sharks exploited that early, we need to put more pressure on opposition kickers.

Agree mainly but the offloads where Pay is trying to get them out wide are not happening.
Really in the last minutes when we went wide RFM and Jacko took the line on hoping to poke through for an offload instead of moving the ball.
Great if they work but mainly wasted tackles.
No nous as you say. The only play that actually looked rehearsed was Hoppa's try. Otherwise none of those plays ever happen.

I am afraid Deano is not teaching these guys much.
You cant teach vision. Wakeham has a bit but not the players around hi.

The good news for me is that at least the Hawks recovered from their thrashing to Geelong last week and after fielding the oldest team in AFL history on Thursday, they hammered reigning champs Richmond.

When Tolman and Tommo are available they need to come into the side.

Otherwise this is the team.

The only other things I would try is Meaney at fullback and Tass or Harper in the centres with Smith moving to the wing.

We need to work out why our defensive line is so compressed, we can't slow down the ruck without giving a 6 again, and I don't think our middle forwards make enough dominant tackles or scramble well.

Whatever the cause we are very short on the edges a lot of the time. If we are coming up and in then we need to move faster and go for the intercept.

But run with this side for a while Wakeham needs the experience.

I think we have ourselves to blame.  Restarts 8 all, penalties 3 to 1 our way, 1 sin bin each.  They took better advantage of the sin bin than us and they had a field day down the wings.

It's hard to argue that Des is a worse coach than what we now have. The salary cap is a different matter that should have been overseen at a higher level.

Des didn't have potentially his best player kicked out before the comp started.

Unfortunately we died with the ball afew too many times on last tackle and didnt  test their in goal defence with enough grubber kicks.

Foran  and JMK were to blame for this. We still look like a team that just wants to waste 4 tackles with 1 out hitups inside the 10m and just get to the last play where we finally do a spread backline move.

I don't understand why our players dont have the brains to spot a gap in defence, an out of position player, an injured player, an offside player or even the bloody ref in the defensive line that can create an opportunity. Everything still seems preprogrammed.

It happened 2 or 3 times in the first half.... getting tackled on the last without even threatening a kick for a try or a repeat set.

A game we clearly should have won had we not gifted the opposition simple tries

Foran and Wakeham have brains and vision, Wakeham just needs to get used to the pace.

Our attack is better but I agree on grubber kicks.

To win more games we need to start better, and defend better.

Games are hard when the opposition wins the first 10 mins.

If that's the best excuse we can offer were stuffed.

Des had a stronger side, particularly a much better pack of forwards, then he had Barba in superb form.

Towards the end of the Des era we defended well, but were clueless in attack.

This side has a lot of weaknesses, we are down on troops and the cap has limited our options.

IMO Pay selected the right side, but the Sharks started the game well and we didn't.

The easy way to beat our side is to start well, we need to change that by starting better, and defending better.

It is tough for young wingers and centres to handle 1-2 man overlaps. They are getting plenty of practice.

Between a rock and a hard place...we should have won...we lack flair..how would we have looked if we still had the Morrises..a lot of ifs and a lot of buts...maybe a Luke Thompson short of being half decent. Despite the predictable lemming responses..there is not much needed to get us to be more competitive. A centre would help. A backline of
Meaney/Smith/Hoppa/DWZ/Averillo/Foran/Wakeham would be the best we could do with current lineup.
