But these types of viruses tend to become less deadly and more routine overtime. At a certian level of immunity with a yearly top up shot for those that need it, it becomes more like the flu. The flu still kills plenty of people and causes a lot of sick leave, but we must live with it. Covid should eventually be similar, if it isn't, we will get very good at making and taking vaccines. Bottom line I doubt that the crisis mode will last too much longer. Oh we’ll be having a jab every year for the rest of your life, if you want to give yourself every chance of getting over it quickly. Some dickheads just can’t get their head around that. That does depend on the weakness of the new strains. I agree we need to currently get vaxed. And may for a few years. But that can change. Remember there are no certainties in pandemics.

It might sound like a stuff-up by the SydPath lab on incorrectly messaging covid positive cases that they are negative, but i reckon it could be one of the best things to have happened in our quest to "live with the virus". Its obvious as anything that Omikron is nowhere near as dangerous as previous strands, and this kind of stuff up and allowing the virus to spread as a mistake seems like the only way to prove to the so called medical professionals that we can allow it to circulate and not result in high death rate or hospitilisations. The only thing we can do better now is completely abandon testing altogether unless it is required in a hospital ICU. Thats called living with the fekking virus... And if we allowed around 200k new cases a day, we could infect the whole AUS population by next Easter (April) and achieve herd immunity. At that point, the government can offer boosters only to those who feel they need it. The rest of us can get on with life Herd immunity can also be achieved by vaccination. Vaccination can assist to try to achieve it but it cant do so on its own. The scientists originally thought we just needed something like 70-80% uptake to achieve it but it didnt do anything. We are mow at near 93% of 12yo and over and still nowhere near it. The only herd immunity is if everyone catches it. Marki. Please don’t make bullshit statements. If we had over 80% of the entire population vaccinated against Covid we could certainly test the theory of herd immunity. I don’t believe we are there yet. Remember most kids under 16 are still waiting in line. Micko, we are very close to 80% of entire population. Our over 12-16s figure is 81% single vax and 78% double. Combined over 12s is over 90% and 5-11s are about to start in a week or so. The 80% figure will be hit but it has no relevenence. The fact that Omikron is so far less severe means we are almost better off infecting our 5-11s with it along with anyone unvaxxed, rather than a tuslly vaccinating them. Omikron provides better immunity. Its just not known how bad long covid effects might be... Please show me this evidence of this ‘better immunity’ after catching Omicron. I doubt there is much. But there sure is a lot of evidence suggesting that the vaccine and boosters increase immunity.
My point also still stands. We don’t know is we will gain herd immunity until after reaching 80% until after reaching 80%. Yes it might have to be higher. But we won’t know until we know I'll have to find and post a link for you but it was only a couple of days ago that Dr Nick Coatsworth advised it on Today show. I dont believe in herd immunity kicking in at 80%. I believe it will be achieved when we simply let covid loose but dont dwell on it.

Some may not be as bad as any other flu (my unvaxxed sister in Greece caught Delta+ along with her kids and was as sick as any other flu). I dont know about you, but i had a dead arm for about 1-2 days after each vaxx hit so I'll be weighing off that vs any benefit of a booster. Chances are.... i wont be having one.

They certainly wouldnt vaccinate their kids. So no matter what the scientists think, its not just a matter of someone flicking a switch and these guys just roll their sleeve up. They (rightly or wrongly) use civil liberties to argue against it and that is that. My personal view is that even vaccinating the rest of the world is not enough and changing our mindset to live with the virus in the same way our 5-10 year old kids have lived with it in the last 2 years is the onky way mankind can move forward. Sure, maybe they should have banked on pfizer from the outset, and maybe could have delayed re-opening till after Omikron surge, but either way, this thing is so transmissable that nothing but the dreaded lockdown would have worked. So thats why I think THIS is the right time to let it rip.

If Scomo simply advised everybody that the country may need to lockdown or increase precautions in areas that have hospitals with no beds it would help. But he has been very poor at explaining anything during the entire pandemic so I doubt this will happen.

Masks in doors and on public transport should have remained in place until after Omicron had peaked. 2. More use of rapid tests and the sourcing of these tests. That sums up many pollies, spin over substance, making the wrong decisions becuase they ignore professional advice. The public also need to take a long look in the mirror, many are ignoring medical advice and taking unnecessary risks. That is like entering wild surf on a closed beach, you can't always expect others to save you, especially when you take unnecessary risks. Are we a nation of toddlers or adults? Even with good management by pollies, and good decisions by the public covid is challenging. With neither, there is no guarantee that our medical system can cope.

I'll add that hotel quantine was always a joke, fine as a short term measure.
1. Overseas arrivals should be in purpose built quantine facilities, like the cabins they have in caravan parks.
2. Locals should have had the option to quantine at home, subject to random checks, a hefty fine and possible jail time for any breach.
3. Masks should have been sourced earlier and mask requirements should be in place more often.
4. Vaccines should have been sourced earlier.
5. Rapid tests should have been sourced earlier.
6. People shouldn't be queuing for hours to get a test. Build a website where they can book at test slot, use rapid tests or add more testing capacity.
