+x+x+xMandatory boosters in NSW for teachers, nurse etc.. What a shock... So a volume of people may end up being forced into 3 jabs in the space of 5 months... I can totally understand how people would support this type of stuff... dman, with this latest installment of the virus running rampant, I doubt there will be any of us that doesn't know somone who has, or at least had the virus, or have caught it themselves. Extinction level event mate... I'm still under my doona with the lights off... We will tell you when it is safe to come out, don't move an inch until we tell you 🤔

Good fight back by the Poms in the cricket.
I may have mocked our bowlers, we just got excited and tried too hard to get the out,
But good fight back from Stokes and Bairstow, good intent and attitude from Wood.
The pitch/ball did seem to fade?
This match might end in a draw, when the pitch/ball dies, batting goes from very difficult to easy, or perhaps Wood should be opening the batting.

+x+x+x+x+x+xTaking NSW as an example 342,000 cases, 689 deaths. NSW polulation over 8 million, so only around on person in 20 has had covid so far. Just scale that up to everyone catching it eventually that is another 120,000 deaths, if the death rate stayed the same. Death rate wont stay the sane as vaccines came in only in second part of 2021 and most deaths were from 2020 or pre vax rollout. I think death rate after September 2021 is your only reasonable measure of the mortality rate. Yes. A scomo stuffup. The time to vaccinate was the first half of 2021 when we had minimal cases. The boosters then could have been much earlier. As for booster availability I was offered to be put on a waiting list of 200 by a local surgery because they had no vaccines. A government without forward thinking or planning. I think its harsh to blame the government on timing of vaccine roll-out.... They banked on AZ but then a negative PR campaign was launched that undermined our roll-out. We also did the honourable humanitarian thing by not jumping the global queue for pfizer when other contries had high death rates with no vaccine access. People dont seem to praise the government when they do good. Only fire pot shots when their decisions don't prove to be the best (in hindsight). As mentioned numerous times, there seems to be no country who has got this right, because there IS NO solution. You just have to manouvre your way around the bumps and bruises. I cant blame them for making a decision off the back of our vax rate, hospital care capacity, low population density and border control. I think we were (are) in a positively unique position to try to live as close to normal with the virus and can become a benchmark for the rest of the world. The government saw an opportunity to take a step forward. It might look like it has backfired, but there may be silver lining yet to come. You might have to reserve judgement on them just yet. Early before local manufacture we hardly had any vaccines. Vaccines only really became important when delta came about which was mid '21. Prior to that, we had original covid under control with our suppression measures. The 3 times we have been caught out have been when the original virus hit our shores, when delta hit and when omikron hit. You can hardly blame any government without the benefit of hindsight.... We were blind to what was happening overseas and fed BS

45000 confirmed sydney cases and 51000 confirmed vic cases....
Its here.... The true figure is well over 150k i reckon. Maybe even 200k. At these rates, we will all have it by Easter.
I think we will see a change in isolation definitions by next week.

The actual numbers vs confirmed numbers has likely never been close to right considering the vast majority of people present without symptoms for all variants... Norman Swan saying the real number could be 5-10 times higher...

Covid is akin to climate change, global warming, air pollution, greedy companies and corrupt governments. We just have to get on with life and live with it.

+xCovid is akin to climate change, global warming, air pollution, greedy companies and corrupt governments. We just have to get on with life and live with it. Yep. You can spend billions in money and resources to try to combat it but ultimately its a losing battle. Once you learn to live with it, it will become just another 21st century nuance of life. Soon our problem wont be overloaded hospitals, but people looting other peoples veggie patch gardens for food!

So when do we think AUS should retire if we chase the win in this Test?
Id say we will lose a full session between today and tomorrow due to rain so potentially only 4 sessions left.
I reckon a lead of 260 would be enough.
Thoughts?

Marki, you're probably right that around 260 would be enough. But just because Aus are leading the series, it doesn't mean they're going to give the poms anything. At most they'll risk a draw, but not a loss.

As for covid, here's a different perspective. I was talking to a Russian woman the other day. One actually there, that lives there. At the end of 2020 she was unvax'd & caught the first variant & went through weeks of hell. A year later, end of Nov thereabouts, she got her first vax. It wasn't Astra, Pfizer, J&J, Moderna etc, it was the one & only option available in Russia, which is the Russian made one called "Sputnik". Instead of being sick for a day or 2, maybe a dead arm for a while, she went through the entire weeks of covid symptoms all over again. Totally identical to what she went through when she had the real thing a year ago. I'll try to catch up with her again over the next week sometime to find out how it's going. It sounded horrific though & not a scenario I'd heard of before.

+xThere lies the problem.... She should never have been unwaxed! We'll all just have to be double pre-vax'd with at least 2 pre-boosters before getting the vax in future.

+xWhat about after January???... I wouldn't be surprised if they're planning a strict after vax rollout, starting with pro-biotic naturopath sustainers & suspenders with bioflavinoids, compulsory bark bark radio therapy, thongs that look like gumboots, no entry to pubs without a straw, campaigns from the torch & pitchfork mob to change the name of raincoats to singlets (people only being allowed to call a sloppy joe a singlet until they've had at least 2 after vax bark bark therapies before being able to wear & call a raincoat a singlet)...I could go on, but it's best I dont....

+xWell ive had covid, so like Novak, i should be able to get an entry visa to anywhere..... Only after January if you ring dman's doorbell wearing a raincoat, gumboots, suspenders & have a straw in your mouth going bark bark.... Or was it that's how dman answers the door....I'll have to re-check the government schedule.... Seriously though, sorry to hear you've had to go through covid. I hope the vax you had has helped make it at least tolerable. Another friend in Europe went through Delta before they knew it was Delta & before there was vax available there...and she works in a hospital. They're all zapped with Moderna there now, but it got nasty for a while for them.

My first individual trophy came in 2020 when i was 42 Think about how anti-suicidal i could have been had i been given some participation trophies all my life....

+x+xDoes Australia have enough overs? I thought Cummins should have declared as soon Kawaja got his tonne... Tense finish. Great effort to hold on for a draw. Another over or 2 and AUS win. Good game, fair result. IMO the declaration was ok, Aussies just couldn't take chances. Poms gritty. The gane swung when Green hit the stumps and the bails didn't drop, if they did likely an easy win. As I expected the pitch flattened out once the ball was a bit older. One more wicket before the new ball and again we probably win. Everyone knows that with modern bats and players skilled at hitting from 20/20, one or 2 players can go biserk and score at a high rate. That is why few teams set around 300. We probably had enough at around 350, but even if we declared earlier it might still have been a draw. Critics like to find something to criticize. Overall a good game and some good performers in both sides.
