+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xGoodbye Euan Aitkan..... Enter Fijian Rugby League’s greatest ever export to the NRL Mr Marcelo Montoya! In 1 years time when we get rid of Hoppa, do we buy back Montoya for double money after his blockbuster form this year? Lol. I really hope not.
What I would love to see is the club only buying rep quality players and young superstars. Like we did in the late 90’s and early 00’s before we got done for rotting the cap. Find ways to pay extras within the rules and as close to the line as possible. And finally become the club that nobody wants to play against again. We have some prospects in the lower grades. Lower grades are important, we want players to get used to winning in Dogs colors and to build some combinations in the lower grades. Sign quality players for positions where we don't have quality lower graders. With Burton and the Fox coming, prop and hooker have to be the priority. Let Napa go and buy a forwards leader. For hooker top quality is hard to buy. I dont know.... Recruiting 1 or 2 forwards all the time seems like we are just hoping the 2 new recruits will solve all problems, but what actually happens is the 2 new guys end up playing the way the rest 9f the forward pack does - and eventually they become the same and we are back to square one... I feel as though we need to recruit a whole new forward pack and other than Elliott, Thompson and Dietz, drop the rest to reserve grade and only ease them back into first grade 1 by 1 and only as needed. That way they cant influence the new style of play. And by style of play, I mean forwards who hit the ball at speed, run in numbers, bend the defence line, look to offload while defensively they move up with good line speed, even if they burn themselves in 15mins. Maybe with the acquisition of JAC and good halves and a strike centre, we can make long breaks and gain territorial advantage using our backs. We did this in early 2000s with Vagana, Talau, Utai and El masri. It allowed our young forwards to play off the back of back pedalling defence and soon elevated them to top echelon of forwards. It seems to me that small changes to our forward pack (which has been the formula of late) is ineffective at the moment. I say this because we seem infatuated with a strong and dominating forward pack. I can appreciate we arent a speedy focused team but like the storm, parra, raiders, penrirh and roosters etc, their rise to the top came from having very good backs which (believe it or not) laid the platform for the forwards to become very good. It doesn't always happen as Tigers and Titans can attest to (Titans could be work in progress). But most teams seem to have built their forwards off the back of a good set of backs. I know you all dont want to believe it, but you cant argue with recent history.... If you look at recent history a good forward leader has been the greatest step in future success for most teams. Junior Paulo for Parra. Josh Papali for Canberra. Back further JWH for the Chooks. Fifita for Cronulla. And I’m sure many more examples. Every team that wins the comp has one of the best props in the comp. and they normally are the driving factor in taking a team from bottom if the table to the top. Why u keep crapping on about the eels success???... they’ve had nine.., And they’ve folded like a house of when it mattered... and built in rotting... Cronulla were over the cap.., Chooks cheats... So is the link a great prop or cheating the cap... Yeah Micko, why?

Hasler agrees to 2 year extension. This is excellent news!
It means either Manly will be shithouse for another 2 years without a hope in well in winning the premiership OR Des will face the indignity of being sacked sometime in the near future after the board has had enough!
Win-win for all!

Who won the 6 months of negotiations? Manly or Des? Did Manly get their performance clause in (so they can sack Des if the team plays like crap) or did Des win & pocket 2 years payment regardless of whether they lose by over 40 points each week?

Did anybody take any notice of last nights game. I feel it was a very good display of footy given the weather conditions. The thing that annoyed me the most was the Parramatta go slow in the last 30 seconds. We all know that every team does it to ensure they get the win if its close, but it makes a mockery of the fabric of the game. The V'RLol has made all these changed to the rules to speed up the game and make it "more exciting" for the fans. The new six again rule penalises the defence for slowing down the play the ball, yet these clowns then make a mockery of that by playing at a snails pace to ensure a victory. If V'landys wants to be serious about the game then a new rule should be introduced that awards a penalty to the defensive team if the attacking side deliberately slows the game down to obtain an advantage.

Des had a handshake agreement with some Manly official 6 months ago. Manly has said they will honour that agreement for as long as that official holds his official job. So all they have to do is sack the official and then sack Des. (Note: this is not official, just my thoughts)

https://www.nrl.com/news/2021/03/18/hasler-agrees-to-two-year-deal-with-manly/I just found this. It would appear (subject to accuracies of the report) that Des only has to finish at least 8th in 2021 or 2022 & he will remain coach in 2023. If further performance clauses are met, he'll be coach in 2024.

I reckon the rule they’re gonna have to address is the six again for 10 metre infringements. A team has the other trapped inside their ten just don’t give a f*** about a six again or two early in the count because it just means they can set themselves to bash them to keep them in their quarter for the 5th tackle kick. The team trying to battle their way out of their 20 would much prefer a penalty and the 20-40m gain than an extra tackle.
Either get rid of it entirely or make it a penalty if received in your own half, six again when your downfield in the opposition half. I reckon actually that’s what would punish the offenders worse.

Des is no chance I'll polish up the resume, i'm guaranteed to be a worst coach than Des, even if I have to try hard to achive it. Training will be lawn bowls 8 hour sessions 10pm - 6am game each day, 8pm - 11am game day.

It's like what Mick was saying about teams having a big forwards leader being important...but they did upgrade the Manly Mall sprint champion....if only they can keep him on the field... As for you taking over as Manly coach, looks like you'll be in starting in 2023. :)

Look I've got nothing against a coaches pass mark being top 8. At some stage though after afew top 8 bomb outs with no chance of winning the title, clubs have to go another direction. Theres a big difference between say Parra and Souths falling 1 game short of a GF and Manly or Cronulla falling short. Parra and Souths have been knocking on the door of a GF for s few years now but can actually win it. The other 2 cant.

There is a rule in the game for a penalty against an innvoluntary tackle, the ref kept calling surrender, but it was beyond that... denying the defence a chance to make a tackle and slowing down the play the ball. As it was Parra, the correct call is send all attacking players in the ruck to the bin for time wasting. Give the Storm a penalty and add 5 mins to the game clock. I should be a ref. Again I think the home side got the 50/50 calls, I hope we do, .

Was there last night watching the Glory humiliated by WSS. Hardly any rain. But today its just non-stop. I have a feeling the smarter team will win today and im afraid that is not us.

Reserve grade lost 28-8 . I think after leading 8-0.
Dietz seemed to defend ok, Panthers 5-1 in linebreaks.
Probably no one in reserve grade pushing for NRL selection thus week, but Schoupp made good metres.

Dietz did play 80, so not a bad effort.
One things in common with week 1 is Britt and the 2 centres made most if the metres.
