+x+xOften when there’s light at the end of the tunnel some bastard goes and orders more tunnel. Let’s hope not. This could be the best season launch ever. Ha ! Great comment Waz ! Lets see what Lowy counters with. Can't see him giving in until he is dead in the water . Best news I have heard in a while on this though. Given what appears to be agreement among all 10 voting bodies if this is undone by back room deals then FIFA will step straight in

@ Midfielder
If lowy did somehow undo this with s bavkroom agreement (which I also think he’ll try and do) then it would be the second time he has done it and yes, the perfect mandate for FIFA to act.

Gallop and Lowy are (just) employees right ? Who are they answerable to? Am I being a bit naive thinking they don't have much room to manoeuver now.

+xGallop and Lowy are (just) employees right ? Who are they answerable too ? Am I being a bit naive thinking they don't have much room to manoeuver now. Lowy is a board member elected by the members in congress and like all board members can only be removed by the members in congress. As chairman of the board he is elected by the board members and can be removed from the chair by them. Gallop is an employee selected by the board on the recommendation of the chairman of the board and can only be dismissed by the board on the recommendation of the chairman. The members have no role in the selection of the CEO or in his dismissal. In this matter the role of the board is to call the EGM requested by the members (done) and provide their expert advice to the members of the FFA. Lowy (or another board member) will chair the EGM and has procedural authority over the meeting. The board members can attend the EGM but have no voting rights, similarly with Gallop. The board exercises all the powers of the FFA not allocated to another party in the constitution. The role of the members in congress is detailed in the constitution as is the role of the independent judicial bodies of the FFA.

I guess I was thinking with the possible threat of damaging FIFA intervention plus what's been released this weekend, even though it's a long weekend with footy finals and the sports media distracted, that there still may be cause to feel a bit more positive that change is happening. Fingers crossed :)

The details will be interesting to read when they are available.

Seems like it's all over now with SBS & 442 adding more to the News article. https://www.ftbl.com.au/news/congress-peace-deal-freezes-out-ffa-513296Come on Tuesday.... As an aside I have been wondering why the A=League clubs excluding the Nix have been building up there best squads in a fair while, just maybe they believed they would win the battle.

If the reports are accurate and Tuesdays vote gets through, expansion would almost definitely need to be postponed, wouldn't it? An independent HAL could happen as soon as next year and that means that the current bidders are essentially bidding for something that is potentially very different than what the league will be next year. An independent HAL may also prioritize different criteria than the current FFA. Some of the bidders may not be interested or prepared for a new model and may drop out of the running all together.

@ someguyjc
“expansion would almost definitely need to be postponed, wouldn't it?” ... I’d say it’s 50/50.
The FFA opened up the submission documents to the A Lesgue Clubs last week for review, this suggests both sides understand the importance of expansion

Greater say and greater share of funds.

Content is king so the more teams means more money for them

It all depends on the offer to existing clubs right. Assuming 12 teams is 33 games that’s extra cost from stadium hire, travel and presumably players wages go up. Are the ffa in a position to agree to the expansion clubs and compensate all the HAL clubs ... and sort it all this month??

If currnt FFA board had offered a bigger share of revenue, they may not have been in this position. There appears to be more money for the W-league. Now we can stop paying Lowy's mates in big business for useless consultancy fees. I think the FFA get $5million from fox for the extra 2 teams from from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. One can only hope that more money will flow to the junior NTs, male and female. There should NO INCREASES to the Roos only performance bonuses for winning games.

@ Paul01
Don’t disagree with all that.
I’m just thinking there’s a 50/50 chance of a delay now because the ffa may not havd thought all this through but is used to being in a position of absolute Power such that it can make and push through any decision it likes and sort out any problems later.
As I said earlier, the fact they brought the other clubs in to review this suggests they want to get this done. It’s just whether the existing clubs are happy with the detail of what’s being offered.

So please explain it then..... in a company situation a board is responsible to shareholders. In the FFA situation I assume it is responsible to its members (?) Who are its members currently ? I am guessing it is the member states federations. I also assume the EGM is to establish a new constitution so the members are increased to include all the other stakeholdersas per the CWRG ? When would this take effect if voted for ? I also assume once we have new members a new board will be put in place and possibly some new admin. Gallop may get the chop. Would a new board have to abide by current selection processes for any new A-League entrants ? Surely a hold should be put on it all until a new board is put in place ?

+xOften when there’s light at the end of the tunnel some bastard goes and orders more tunnel. Let’s hope not. This could be the best season launch ever. Or its a train coming the other way... Sounds as promising as one could possibly hope given it was looking like a 6-4 vote (fail) at the start of the weekend. All 10 members signing off on that statement - it cant fail now. If any state feds back-flipped now (and it would take 3) it would be the end of their credibility. Thats not going to happen. Which only leaves really one 'out' for the Lowy team - some sort of corporate or legal challenge. Hard to see that working though given it appears to be happening within the current constitutional guidelines. Yay!!!
