Time to update this... here goes Ryan 1657 Karacic 1425 Wright 1490 Souttar 1481 Elder 1461 Mooy 1635, Genreau 1570 Volpato 1749 Rogic 1565 McGree 1564 Ruka 1618
Others.. Hrustic 1559 Kalik 1538 Mabil 1524 Irvine & Metcalfe 1488 Holland 1443 Circati 1431 Dougall 1435 King 1429 Gersbach 1413 D Juric 1383 Rowles, Devlin, Atkinson, Kuol 1316 Boyle and Jeggo 1286 Bacchus 1281 Behich 1268
So looking off that it's probably time we at least had a look at Elder and Kalik bringing them into the squad. Both 1st team regulars at very highly rated clubs. And Rukavytsa should have been given far more opportunities the last few years given the level he's been playing at and scoring goals in... ship probably sailed now though.
If Souttar goes to Leicester (1745) Wolves (1698) or Everton (1675), or Bacchus goes to AEK(1467), Rangers (1635), Norwich (1558), a rumoured.

It just does not work like that - selecting players for national teams based on club rankings. It is interesting to see how they are ranked based on ELO though.

Whilst Deni Genreau made the team, he is a squad rotation player at best whilst someone like a Jackson Irvine, whilst at a lower rated club is the captain and mainstay of his team. But this was just an exercise i started awhile ago to see if there was anyone that we should perhaps be considering that is going under the radar. It's clear from this though that guys like Kalik and Elder are being overlooked. Both are mainstays of their sides when fit and are playing at a very good level relative to our other players. I don't think either of them have even been capped?!

Apart from their two big clubs, Hadjuk S and Dynamo Zagreb, the league isn't rated highly. However, given the resounding recent success of the Croatian national team in big tournaments, there must be a lot being done very well in Croatian football. They only have a population of 5 million. Most of the players in the WC played in other UEFA leagues and most, if not all the Croatian domestic players played with the big two Croatian clubs. I can look up where Elder plays his football, but I thought he was an English Lower League player?

If Kalik is starting every week for HS I'm really surprised he hasn't been given a call up? Unless it has changed a lot in the last few years, the Championship is a funny league in terms of being a motley collection of playing styles. It is the 6th richest league in the world behind the big UEFA five.

Was surpised also at how low the bottom championship teams are ranked - they are basically on par with Hearts and below the boys at Randers. Just like the last time i did this, Kalik's team is strong which again suggests he is very unfortunate not to get picked given he is a first team regular at a club with a high rating. Surprised that Oneill's Standard Liege werent higher - the Belgium league is enjoying there best rating in many years, above the Eredivisie atm. Standard must have done poorly in the league the past few years. As we suspected Nisbit's Ross county is very low - mid league 1 level. Looks like Hrustic has gone to one of the best teams in Serie B. Overall the average of our players has gone up a lot, mostly through Ipswich and St Pauli being promoted

That would be very interesting to see how it compares with current squad. Another thing i noticed doing these was that even though we have a few more guys playing in the top division now, there clubs are very poorly rated. Arguably playing for say a Leeds is a higher standard than playing for say an Ipswich. I know that sounds a bit counterintuitive given Ipswich is the prem and Leeds are Champ but Leeds are ranked a fair bit higher

End of the season will be intetesting if our 3 regulars go up Would love to see how the elo of regular starters has evolved over the years. Im guessing 2014 was where we bottomed out

+xI'm curious how our depth differs? Gut feel is it's better. Thats a question i can probably answer in the next day or two. The number of players born between 00 and 03 who have gotten substantial game time is huge compared to any time in the a league era

So I looked at players who managed at least one 25+ game season (counting all comps) at at least the second tier level by the time they were u24. Regardless of birth month a u24 is someone born in 2001. Cahill (1979) for example is taken to be u24 in 2003 despite being bon in december. This of course squashes a lot of nuance - players might miss games due to injury, 25 sub appearances for a relegation candidate in the spl is in the same category as a player that plays every game for a promoted team in seri b. Having said that, the list is like a who's who of socceroos. I'm skeptical I got all the players born 76-87, so any suggestions please shoot them off
2000-2003 current list (9): Circati, Volpato, Yazbek, Bos, Neiwenhof, Gwargis, Silvera, Miller, Italiano, Players playing when fit: Triantis, Robertson, Toure, Darrigo Players I expect to get 25 games this season: Farrell+Rodriguez probably 14-15 by the end of the season in total, I would expect another 5-7 players to join them before the end of the 26/27 season. 1999-96 (7) Karacic, Souttar, Mcgree, Genreau, Metcalf, Hrustic, Devlin 95-92 (7) Mabil, irvine, luongo, ryan, rogic, degenek, amini 91-88 (10) leckie, oar, Giannou, Wright, Mcgowan, Davidson, Rhys Williams, Troisi, Holland, Lowry 87-84 (4+) Holman, Kilkenny, Djite, valeri 83-80 (5+) Kennedy, mcdonald, culina, kisnorbo, bresciano 79-76 (10+) Max Vieri, Cahill, grella, Thompson, Sterjovski, Emerton, aloisi, kewell, Neill, Moore,Simunic Very few notable players not making this list: kruse, mooy, jedi, chipperfield, wilkshire
