Why do we need something like this to discredit the AFL. Every week there is some smack head, woman beater, assault, racist, rapist being reported about. The problem is their culture of denial is so strong, the coolaid so pure, that they just carry on spinning the facts until they fit the narrative and the fans lap it up.

I reckon there's a MUCH smaller percentage of fans of AFL clubs that care what the AFL HQ does (outside of rule changes) than A-League/soccer fans that care about FFA and FIFA politics.

Idk, during the Adam Goodes saga when the AFL told their fans to try to be less racist they went insane.

Dutton is a cruel sociopath and certainly isn't very bright, but I'm not sure there's much in this. Everyone has the right to lobby the immigration minister on behalf of their second cousin's nannies, and the minister has full discretion to approve or reject the petitions. These were obviously favours, but they didn't enrich anyone or disadvantage anybody else, so it's really a very minor issue.

These au pairs just got lucky that they happened upon well connected families. Good on them.  I don't mind that someone was allowed to stay. Dutton is known for kicking people out and rejecting applications. That deserves more criticism than granting tourist visas to a couple of damn 'au pairs'.

This isn't anything to do with "us vs them". This is nothing more then a friend helping a friend. It is no different to a friend giving a friend a service/discount/whatever, that they may not necessarily give to other people. It's a case of "not what you know, but who you know" type thing. As far as I can see, there is nothing sinister going on here. Then again, I could be wrong.

The hypocrisy is people making out this is some new and rare thing . Ministers on all sides of politics always have and always will give "special consideration" to individual cases ...in other words ..."favours to mates" .
Labour has always done it, the coalition has always done it.
It is not illegal ..it is actually part of their brief to listen to petitions from the public...however both sides will obviously listen harder if a friend is the petitioner.
