I just learned today that the Western Bulldogs is playing its final game in Ballarat against one of the Adelaide teams. It will be interesting to see what they get as a bit of a guide as to what is possible there for WU.

Having a top heavy approach, which the AFL has always had, has these results: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/in-struggling-country-footy-the-scoreline-says-it-all-20190725-p52aot.htmlAs AMAZING as this is, do not forget (yes there may have been free tickets) the things they leave behind for fancy numbers.

I've just been looking at the total attendances each season in each market and comparing last season to the highest attendance and the following is a summary of the situation:-
Sydney market. Total attendance last season was 33% below the peak in 2014-15 and 2016-17 and was down 54k season on season. NSW Regional. Total attendance last season was 37% below the peak in 2012-13 and was down 56k season on season. Melbourne market. Total attendance last season was 22% below the peak in 2014-15 and was up 10k season on season. Brisbane market. Total attendance last season was 40% below the peak in 2013-14 and was up 2k season on season. Perth market. Total attendance last season was 1.5% below the peak in 2016-17 and was up 26k season on season. Adelaide market. Total attendance last season was 27% down on the peak in 2010-11 and was 1k down on last season.
It's obvious that attendance in all markets needs to improve but the major drop has been in NSW and Qld.

A swing of up to 25k per season seems to be "normal" for them depending on performance during the season.
