+x+xi dont care about striking distance just be competitive! Yep. I will settle for restoring some pride. we always got told "never look at the scoreboard whether you are miles ahead or behind. However you play the last hour is how you'll start the next match. Even if you are getting flogged if you win the last hour you have a good chance in the next match. If you are way ahead but lose the last hour you let them back in the next match"

Can Uz, Head and the rest get us within striking distance of this target. My heart says yes but head says we may only last until tea.

How many years have we been saying that Australian cricket is rubbish when we play away from home..specially in the Sub Continent. The problem has to lie here at home.. the pitches on which we play our red ball domestic cricket. There is no challenge in these decks.. nothing to help us improve our poor spin play in the sub continent and nothing that resembles anything we will find in England. For those two places are Oz cricket's greatest nemesis. Every four years we go to both places with high hopes and leave broken, despondent and embarrassed. Our First Class cricketers need a challenge, time in the middle to build an inngs. What are they getting.. batting friendly belters usually. So when it comes to batting against the moving ball they are all at sea. This was made crystal clear last season when seasoned professionals did not have a clue against the swinging English Duke ball. Talented exponents of swing such as promising leftie Nick Winter had a field day.. taking 25 wickets in three matches. He finished his season with 34 in just five matches @20. What a sad indictment this is of Australian cricket. when blokes who have been professional cricketers for a decade can still not play the moving ball.. let alone the turning one. There needs to be pressure put on CA to extend the use of the Duke ball for the entire Shield season. Those that best perform against it should be on the plane to England.

+xsigh we bat for one more session in the first innings and we probably draw at least make it competitive We really needed another wicket in hand for that to happen tbh, we have a dreadful middle and lower order. Shaun Marsh was probably the only one who could bat the time to save this match and he had a shit test.

+x+x+xUsman was lucky with that skied sweep. Usman looks a laid back cricketer but take a look at his face and he looks far from that. I like Uz..he has good concentration but some of his shots give you a heart attack. Plus he doesn't disgrace himself on the pitch, like Warner. How true. A real gentleman is Uz. He studied aviation at Uni with my son.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xI was surprised Paine took Laba off, after ordering a well judged review from the captain, which resulted in a Labu wicket. Is his nickname Laba or Labu? The moment of truth for this cricket team starts now with out second innings. We need to be cool under pressure. :smooooth: Uz finally breaks the shackles and lofts Shah. More of that. Has everybody gone out? Another excellent partnership by our openers. 0/72 at tea. All falling apart after tea with Finch and SOS back in the sheds. Ball is reversing for Abbas. Has Marsh played his last Test? Which one? Neither are really established. Shaun. Correct. Mitch was sent back to domestic cricket to sort out his game. That is the unofficial story as I understand it. Officially he lost his place thru injury. He was out of Test cricket for 12 months or so. When he returned he looked a completely different batsman. Gone was the stiff stance, the hard hands, the sloppy play outside his off stump, the loose defence. No doubt this Test will set him back mentally. It should end his brothers stop/start career. Shaun at age 35 still has Shield average under 40 - which is abominable for an Aussie Test cricketer. Mitch also needs to add about 10% to his average. Some people can not believe a bloke who averages 32 FC is playing Test cricket. I was one of them. Mitch is a CA project player like Shane Watson that is why he was chosen to play Test cricket. Also that he had successfully captained the 2010 U19s to a world cup title. He is another that has shown so much promise, has been given so many chances and now has to deliver in spades. I am signing off fellars. catch you tomorrow.

+x+x+xUsman scores his second 50 of the match! Uz would be the first to admit he was once a poor player of spin but he has done a lot of work to rectify that. Which is good to see.

If Mitch can get back to his bowling form before he was injured, it would be good.

+x+xUsman scores his second 50 of the match! Very well done. Faced a lot of spin too and they all maintain he is a poor player of spin. I have seen him take spinners apart at home. He has improved in Asia.

Quite a few of us who post in cricket also follow football/soccer. In Asia, Australia in cricket is analogous to a European powerhouse in football, like France or Germany, being unable to perform well in football outside Europe. Australia is historically a powerhouse in Test cricket. But apart from our last Test series in Asia against India, where they just won a hard fought series, we are absolute rubbish in Asia. It doesn't matter much to the Aus cricket board, because only about 10 -15 percent of the population view us playing cricket in Asia. Out of sight out of mind. In a few months, we'll see Australia excel on the bouncier pitches early in the home series, then as the opposition becomes familiar with the conditions it will be too late and the series will be over. The public and media will be waxing lyrical about what a good team we have, because few see us play in Asia. There is also little media coverage of this series in the UAE. Fox has covered all sub cont tours for at least the last 15/20 years that I know of. Australia has one of the largest cable tv subscriptions (per capita) in the world (I stand corrected) ..point is a large audience could see cricket in Asia if interested. They read papers and watch online. You would have to be on another planet not to know that Australia.. like most western cricketing nations is crap in Asia. The big question is how do we stop being crap in Asia? They have. Only 25 - 30% have Fox though. 50% of the population hates cricket and the other 50% follows it. It can be extrapolated that 12 - 15% watch us play cricket overseas. The solution is some Aussie Shield pitches need to play like Asian pitches. I have been saying this for ages. We need both Asian like pitches and Pom like pitches. With the latter you can not guarantee Pom weather conditions which determine movement in the air. But something has to be done. CA has to remove its head from the sand. Only 25 - 30% have Fox though. Is that all? Yes.

+x+x+xHead just played a cracking off drive for four off Bilal. I hope Head plays an innings like he did in Hobart last season in the Shield, where he scored the best innings all season at Bellerive. Head has been promising for too long. Time to deliver son. He has delivered today. We are about 3 -140. They've made close to a half century partnership.

Usman is playing the best I’ve ever seen him play against quality spin.
I’d like Grazorblade, or others who play cricket, look at where he has improved.
