Ditto. He and Watson are two peas in the same all rounder pod. Both promised so much too as youngsters.

Watson is sorely underrated...

ATG ODI allrounder.

ATG T20 allrounder.

And more than useful test allrounder... (when he bowled)...

Ditto. He and Watson are two peas in the same all rounder pod. Both promised so much too as youngsters.

Please explain?
Watson 59 tests av 36 with the bat 32 with the ball. Name another all rounder Australia has produced with those stats. There aren't many
Moises 4 tests 23 with the bat 82 with the ball
Mitch Marsh 30 tests 26 with the bat 42 with the ball
Actually name a recent batsmen in recent times with just Watson's batting average, there aren't a lot. After Watson was replaced all the batsmen they tried could not produce Watson's average and there were many.

The problem for Watson was that he was perfect at No 6 but Clarke refused to move up the order from 5 (rightly or wrongly) and sent Watson in ahead of him.

Just remember Clarke at 5 averaged nearly 60, at 4 averaged 30, at 3 averaged 15. The only batsmen in the history of the game to halve his average the higher he moved in the order. No Watson protected Clarke but Clarke the great guy he was never supported Watson regardless of the media pressure he got. Clarke couldn't face fresh pace bowlers and relied on spinners and tired bowlers to score runs....there is no other explanation why a batsman's average would halve, never occurred before Clarke hasn't occurred after Clarke, especially one to play so many tests as Clarke did. Shane Watson, another victim of the Clarke era.

Because hes mad a bag of runs the last few seasons batting 4/5 (I think its either high 40s but may be ticking 50). Hes also an experienced player and a leader which we sorely lack.

You want a leader I would prefer White or Bailey over Finchy.. both also have a superior FC average and record to him. They are not too old either as White is younger than SOS Marsh who is in this present Baggy Greens side. Bailey may be cutting it fine.. a year older that White and SOS but he scored a steely ton for the Tigers today on a lively deck.

Watson's returns were crap in his last year or so. He was a walking LB wicket and his bowling lost its potency.. his confidence and career nose dived. But CA held onto him like the pet he was. Despite every cricket lover calling for his head. I do not think there has been a more maligned cricketer than Watto. We had our own Watto thread at The Crowd he was so unpopular.

Pretty sure when Mark started with the offies, he bowled his first spell seam up, then came back on with the offies... He may have had back problems... but I am sure he did the both in the early 90's...

Maybe he did do both early on but he definitely gave the pace because of his back.

Maybe Harris said it brushed the glove and Finch was not certain it had not brushed the glove. Might have cost him his test career

Spoke too soon. Finchy falls to Ashwin after surviving the new ball and a total of 35 deliveries. He has had a test to forget.

LU had similar. Then Mitch Marsh made people realise that Watson was like Sobers or Kallis comparatively...

Harris strikes me exactly as what I thought he’d be- a decent player with potential for test cricket but Is a few years off knowing his game well enough for it. That said he should be given the series now that he’s in the side.

26 in each innings, not the worst start to a career but might need a few games to adjust. It was a poor shot.

If he does he saves his career.

At least he should have some confidence in the situation. He can in at 2/24 chasing 312 against SA and made 163 not out to win the match. He is looking okay.

Khawaja not looking good.

In both innings time was so much on our side. I just don't understand why you would take a risk to break the shackles.

Even if you don't have enough quality to break the shackles in a low risk way the shackles always rust off after 100 overs if you have wickets in hand due to bowler fatigue

To chase a score like this you need one player to make a big 100 and a couple to chip in with half centuries.

Not much room for error here

Agree. I have seen Ussie play some spanking lofted drives off the spinners. Needed to bide his time is all. A man of his experienced should have known better. Led from the front. Now he has put his side under huge pressure with us now having to rely on Marsh as the senior player.
