+x+x+x+xPatterson out for 45 to Cooper who has 2 wickets. Not really the innings needed to push his case for selection. They'll probably give Moises another go, knowing selectors. The great all rounder, he is not a first class bowler, he is not a first class batsman, he is the great all round failure. Ditto. He and Watson are two peas in the same all rounder pod. Both promised so much too as youngsters. Watson is sorely underrated... ATG ODI allrounder. ATG T20 allrounder. And more than useful test allrounder... (when he bowled)...

There aren't many Moises 4 tests 23 with the bat 82 with the ball Mitch Marsh 30 tests 26 with the bat 42 with the ball Actually name a recent batsmen in recent times with just Watson's batting average, there aren't a lot. After Watson was replaced all the batsmen they tried could not produce Watson's average and there were many. The problem for Watson was that he was perfect at No 6 but Clarke refused to move up the order from 5 (rightly or wrongly) and sent Watson in ahead of him. Just remember Clarke at 5 averaged nearly 60, at 4 averaged 30, at 3 averaged 15. The only batsmen in the history of the game to halve his average the higher he moved in the order. No Watson protected Clarke but Clarke the great guy he was never supported Watson regardless of the media pressure he got. Clarke couldn't face fresh pace bowlers and relied on spinners and tired bowlers to score runs....there is no other explanation why a batsman's average would halve, never occurred before Clarke hasn't occurred after Clarke, especially one to play so many tests as Clarke did. Shane Watson, another victim of the Clarke era.

+x+x+x+xFinch should have been walking back to the sheds.. and probably out of the side but the giant man overstepped. A cardinal sin at this level. I do rate Finch but he should bat lower down the order, the new ball gives him a few too many problems. his first class is mid 30s baffling to me that he is in the team tbh Because hes mad a bag of runs the last few seasons batting 4/5 (I think its either high 40s but may be ticking 50). Hes also an experienced player and a leader which we sorely lack. You want a leader I would prefer White or Bailey over Finchy.. both also have a superior FC average and record to him. They are not too old either as White is younger than SOS Marsh who is in this present Baggy Greens side. Bailey may be cutting it fine.. a year older that White and SOS but he scored a steely ton for the Tigers today on a lively deck.

Shane Watson, another victim of the Clarke era. Watson's returns were crap in his last year or so. He was a walking LB wicket and his bowling lost its potency.. his confidence and career nose dived. But CA held onto him like the pet he was. Despite every cricket lover calling for his head. I do not think there has been a more maligned cricketer than Watto. We had our own Watto thread at The Crowd he was so unpopular.

+x+x+x+x+x+xPattinson is not an all rounder, he is a bowler who can bat reasonably well. Just because a batsman can bat reasonably well does not make them an all rounder. A true all rounder makes the team in one discipline and goes at least very close to making the team in the second discipline. Sobers, Miller, Botham, Kapil Dev all would have been picked for one discipline even if they had been terrible batsmen or could not bowl. It is nonsense to say player is an all rounder just because they can do the other discipline to a handy level. He is trying to become an all-rounder. Hence pursuing. But there's batting all-rounders like Sobers and Kallis, and bowling allrounders like Dev, Cairns, Flintoff, Hadlee, Imran, hybrids - like Botham (Miller was a great bowler who rarely bowled and batted high despite a low batting average). What's Holder? He is definitely an allrounder. What type - I do not know - he's the second best batsman and bowler in the WI team.. He started as a bowler, now he's half the team... Ali, Stokes, Curran - are they batsmen? No. They're not bowlers.... They're most definitely allrounders... I consider Ashwin and Jadeja allrounders. They aint making the team as batsmen. But they are allrounders. They score match winning and saving runs regularly. I would rather say he is trying to improve his batting. All tail enders should be doing so and I think batsmen should be trying to bowl something so that can bowl a few overs when required. Glenn McGrath was a terrible batsman but he tried to improve his batting as well. Mark Waugh was nothing special as an off spinner yet he bowled quite a bit at times when the wicket was flat or spin friendly. The likes of Martyn, Lehmann, Clarke, Border, Katich, Bevan, Steve Waugh, Blewett could all bowl a bit, some better than others but it was handy to have them available for a few overs at times. They were not all rounders, none of them. Bevan played as a top 4 bowler for Australia in tests when Tubby was not scoring runs. I can give you a link to several tests of this. There's quite a few... Steve Waugh started as an allrounder very much so. He was competing with Greg Mathews for the spot. Mark Waugh was very much an ODI allrounder at the start - seam up fast medium # 3 bowler... Blewett I think may have been tried as an allrounder, just not a good one... But Patto wants the #7 spot as a bowling allrounder, but he could do the same role at 8 (if he's good enough)... I know Bevan played as a spinner. Steve Waugh started out as an attempted all rounder, he never really succeeded, he became a batsman who bowled a little, largely because he quite often got injured bowling. Greg Matthews actually averaged over 40 as a test match batsman, but was not considered a good enough batsman, he also was not good enough as a bowler. He would be the second best batsman in the current team. Mark Waugh was quite sharp as a bowler, much quicker than his brother, early in his career but he gave it up to save his back. I was more referring to the majority of his career when he bowled his off spin. Blewett was a handy part timer who could take a few wickets. I think he took some wickets in a test match in Hobart off the top of my head but definitely not an all rounder. Pattinson needs to bowl well first and foremost, he has been bad in the current shield match. The batting is just an added bonus. Pretty sure when Mark started with the offies, he bowled his first spell seam up, then came back on with the offies... He may have had back problems... but I am sure he did the both in the early 90's... Maybe he did do both early on but he definitely gave the pace because of his back.

Harris strikes me exactly as what I thought he’d be- a decent player with potential for test cricket but Is a few years off knowing his game well enough for it. That said he should be given the series now that he’s in the side.

Bumrah's pace off this tiny run up is such an impressive achievement. Imagine him in indoor or Sunday league cricket...

In both innings time was so much on our side. I just don't understand why you would take a risk to break the shackles.
Even if you don't have enough quality to break the shackles in a low risk way the shackles always rust off after 100 overs if you have wickets in hand due to bowler fatigue

To chase a score like this you need one player to make a big 100 and a couple to chip in with half centuries.
Not much room for error here

I have seen Ussie play some spanking lofted drives off the spinners. Needed to bide his time is all. A man of his experienced should have known better. Led from the front. Now he has put his side under huge pressure with us now having to rely on Marsh as the senior player.
