Umm....Mile Sterjovski started his career at Wollongong, Tim Cahill never made a senior appearance for the club, Robbie slater started his career at St George, Francis Awaritefe never played a game for them either. And that's just off the top of my head. Nice try though.

croat23 wrote:i think some people just dont want to admit that a croatian club has done a lot for Australian football Only a Croatian supporter would make such a supid, race bound comment, I think you should consider the fact that there are three current socceroos who played for Carlton and two from Sydney United and pull your head in because that list of players was a load of tripe. If I found those four off the top of my head that were bollocks, how many others were?? Look at the facts, 10 of the most recent socceroos squad were produced by the AIS. And just two by Sydney United with just three EVER signing a professional contract for them, which makes them no better than Carlton who have produced three players aswell. A lot of good players have been at that club.
I think more than above mentioned 7 have come through the ranks. I think Milicic, Moric and Bilokapic all came through the same time. I think they were a part of the young Branko Culina team that lost to Brisbane???
Either way, a lot of good juniors have come through the club (club, junior international, olympic and full national level), a lot of youngies have been given a start there and they have poached some good players from other clubs.
Hopefully they keep putting out the good talent but I think the glory days are behind them. Similar story with Marconi, Olympic and co

I'm not stopping you from making a topic for Carlton, Melbourne Knights ect and I wasnt saying that your beloved Carlton hasnt done anything. I find it amazing how everytime something Croatian is brought up on this forum there is always something negative for you to say about it. Edited by croat23: 1/12/2008 08:26:19 PM

Well, you could talk about Sydney United and not Sydney Croatia.:-" You could also try not making shit up, that list of players is total bollocks. You should probably edit that before I do.
You could also grow the fuck up. I'm german, but you don't see me trumpeting that in every post I make do you?

I never knew Croatia were that high up in the rankings...... Anyways, congratulations to Sydney United. Good old club. Always producing good young talent ( Golec). However there not as good as the great Marconi :p
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Yeap, Sth Melbourne and the Knights have also had lots of good players go through them. Carlton was only around for a couple years and cant compare. Dont know anything about Perth SC, but I dont think its in the same league as well. Les Murray wrote a blog as well: http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/blogs/lesmurray/old-soccer-ethnics-and-our-future-155174/

Wow he isn't trying to stir the pot at the FFa at all is he. Les Murray has lost so much credibility in the last 3 years it is almost sad.

I think its very good. Without getting into an argument I thought this comment was quite good: "Who is Mark Viduka if not the son of first generation Croatian immigrants, whose father instructed him to choose football and to play it in the way his Croatian heritage programmed him to play it? That is why Dooks, ‘for such a big man’, has such delicate skill. It was his father, not the AIS, that made him." I'm very proud of Sydney United and Melbourne Knights and what these ethnic communities have done for Australian football.

Quote:I'm very proud of Sydney United and Melbourne Knights and what these ethnic communities have done for Australian football. Yay for them. So the AIS didn't produce Mark Viduka, I wouldn't want any credit for that train wreck either. but look at the vast pool of tallent the ARE responsible for, including Bresciano and Grella. Viduka has won whatnow?? Oh, so he won SPL player of the year once. A couple of minor individual 'honours' do not constitute being "one of the greatest players Australia has ever had". Cahill is superior, Kewell, Baartz, Warren, Marston, Tobin, even Crino. "He was regarded as a skilled player, able to hold the ball up well and bring other players into the game.[who?]" - his wiki page. that made me laugh. A lot. Quote:May I ask what German founded clubs have made such an impact to Australian football? :-k It may just be taht rather than racially segregating themselves from the rest of the community like Croatians do, Germans have jsut asimilated and gone about making their own anonymous personal contributions to the cause. "In the 1970s and early 80's "Yugoslav" club Yugal (previously known as Yugal-Ryde, now defunct) was a constant rival on and off the field with United. Games between the clubs would often result in fan violence which some time will spill onto the field." Just thought you might like to have a read of that. I'd love to see where you could find anything about any Germans making that kind of contrubition to society. First German decendant to be capped for Australia: H Gorring, July 1933. Infact, there had been some 10 german decendants capped for Australia before the first croat, Frank Micic was capped in Novermber 1967.
