Penrith Stadium was never going to be selected. The seated capacity is lower than the number of members that we had at the time of the vote and from memory, the FFA are quite particular about grassed/unseated areas. So Homebush was really the only ever option no matter what people voted. It's a small sacrifice for what is a major long term gain. Spotless stadium's facilities are actually really good, its the location and shape of the field that are the issues. There'd be close to two dozen different food and drink options and the amenities are all well set out with little cues and wait times.

As someone who's been following the WSW since their founding, the biggest thing that I have noticed is simply that the honeymoon phase is over and we're setting out into the often mundane life of being a football club. For some that's no longer sexy or appealing. I also think this club has been a major victim of its early success and bred spoilt fans who legitimately believed that every season would involve at the very least a grand final.

The new stadium will be exciting and well worth the wait for those of us who have hung around whilst being on the road but I also don't think that people are going to return in the droves that the club are forecasting unfortunately. I know people who used to plan their weeks around when WSW were playing and these days they'd struggle to tell you when a game was on, let alone go to one.

Every club in the A-League is the same and had gone through it at one point or another, some just worse than others. It's just the nature of our society really - we pride ourselves as a country on being sport mad yet when it comes to the commitment of attending matches week in week out, most don't want anything to do with it. In fairness to WSW, the whole league is abysmal attendance wise right now for the simple reason that it is stale AF...

Good post mate......

It's also December. People have all sorts of commitments on weekends this time of year (eg: family Christmas gatherings and end of year work/club parties). Then in January many people are away on holidays. It's always going to be sketchy attendance/ratings this time of year.

you should be drawing bigger crowds this time of the year, not less. or plan your holidays around away games over this period.

Blaming other events for poor crowds is a cop out. The whole world doesn't stop just because the A-League is on.

SUTHERLANDBEAR- your club expected us to fill your stadium relying on your rivals to fill it we ain't paying 30 40 bucks for shit seats on a cricket oval. Your farkin deluded, the rbb can fill three bays at any stadium your school kids çove fill one bay we are always the big club when we came in you knew this day would come just don't want to admit that we get bigger memberships and crowds than you lot. Always hated ESFC even before the WSW came in. You lot stabbed a victory fan have caused enough trouble, don't get punished for flare at the gf 2016/17 had a brawl last year against Adelaide and didn't get punished.

Yet your waning supporters will pay $30-$40 at ANZ this weekend which is no better than the SCG.

Big club ? Away and fuck yerself, big game bottlers is what you are.

BTW, how old are you ?

If Melbourne Victory had to play all their games at the MCG for a season, I'd stop going. It's an absolutely atrocious venue for football, as I imagine Spotless and ANZ are - so I empathize with Wanderers fans.

Once they get their brand new stadium they'll be back to being the second biggest club in the country, no problem.

This MCG is the worst place for football absolutely hate when Socceroos or big international teams come to Melbourne and they play matches at the MCG has to be the worst stadium in Australia for football

these Kangaroos can play football -

Olympic Park has no pre-game atmosphere which was a big part of the Parramatta Wanderers experience.  The stadium food at Spotless is alright.  The stadium itself is crap.

Watching games in oval venues detracts from the live match experience, but it wouldn't stop me from attending live games.

While the current excuse of venue is the easiest one, I don't think attendance woes will be solved by just moving back to Parra. It will tick up but it won't be the cure.

I thought the old atmosphere from WSW fans and the RBB was wonderful for the entire sport at WSW games.

It was one of few subjects that non-football fans would raise in discussion in social gatherings about football. Others hoped they would attend Socceroo games to provide vociferous  support in the same way as at WSW games.

End shit thread

Shame you feel that way.

This thread was designed to elicit some positive responses.

The former WSW passionate support was good for the entire sport.

This, I know us Sydney people are fickle but to go on about oval venues as if its a plague or something is just more excuse's.
I don't mind going to the SCG at all for my SFC games, you just got to place yourself in the best position that suits you, we sit just off the Cove in the 2nd tier level its fine watching the game.
Sure I can't wait to get back to SFS/Allianz for your closer to the pitch but its not forever at the SCG.

The home stadium issues may go some way to explaining WSW support in Sydney, but what happened to the traveling fans?

3 years ago the RBB shut down LaTrobe St before their match with Victory and were louder than MV active for the entire match. During the same match 2 weeks ago, RBB couldnt even fill 1 bay and weren't heard.

Unfortunately Australia doesn't have football fans that no matter how good or bad their team is going, they'll be there on game day. Majority of people see football as an outing while league or afl are resting. I love football. It's something that I did not start here in Australia but back where I come from. Where football is a way of life and support for a club is for life no matter what happens. I follow wanderers since its beginning and don't miss a game ( unless is v pg away) and I can say that a great majority of people don't have a clue . I believe it will take generations for football fans in Australia to really understand and feel what it means to support your club till the death. I don't know if it will ever get there.
