+x+x+xNot sure what people expected. Back in 2007, look at the squad Arnold had and he only got to the QF. This years side is significantly weaker. | Pos. | Player | Club | | GK | Mark Schwarzer | England Middlesbrough | | DF | Lucas Neill | England West Ham United | | DF | Patrick Kisnorbo | England Leicester City | | FW | Tim Cahill | England Everton | | MF | Jason Čulina | Netherlands PSV Eindhoven | | DF | Michael Beauchamp | Germany 1. FC Nürnberg | | DF | Brett Emerton | England Blackburn Rovers | | MF | Luke Wilkshire | Netherlands Twente | | FW | Mark Viduka (c) | England Newcastle United | | MF | Harry Kewell | England Liverpool | | FW | Archie Thompson | Australia Melbourne Victory | | GK | Brad Jones | England Middlesbrough | | MF | Vince Grella | Italy Torino | | FW | Brett Holman | Netherlands Nijmegen | | FW | John Aloisi | Spain Alavés | | DF | Michael Thwaite | Poland Wisła Kraków | | MF | Carl Valeri | Italy Grosseto | | GK | Michael Petkovic | Turkey Sivasspor | | MF | Nick Carle | Turkey Gençlerbirliği | | MF | David Carney | Australia Sydney | | MF | Mile Sterjovski | Switzerland Basel | | DF | Mark Milligan | Australia Sydney | | MF | Mark Bresciano | Italy Palermo | Man we had a good side back in 2007 for Asian standards that probably the strongest line upon paper this confederation has ever seen and GA did nothing with it.... Two points to make here. 1) Arnie never wanted the job back then. As a 'good servant' of football in Australia he took it on an interim basis. 2) The FFA had promised the players that they didn't need to play the Asian Cup. The vast majority played in Europe where their last break was June 2004. They had come off a long campaign including the the 2005 Confed cup. The FFA backed out of the agreement because of the recent move to Asia and Arnie had a lot of angry players that didn't want to be there. correct, it was another time of taking the poison chalice...... I remember well how much our boys disliked having to play at that time and internal bickering/problems. After the highs of Hiddick 06 and following season the boys were done and then had to come to terms with a young coach who only had been assistant prior. and some on these boards just look at the wiki pages for info but its what between the lines/background that really is the storey, GA was up a creek without a paddle to a degree as any inexperienced coach would be. This team right now as mentioned is no where near that 07 squad making the QF and not wanting to be there in the first place. IF GA gets them to QF I'll be amazed and rapted at the same time.

I say he stays. I would like to know if there’s ever been another Socceroos coach with a blazer that has the coat of arms. Now THAT’S commitment

Agree ^^ I can’t remember if I posted this earlier, but to me, the majority of that loss is down to those on the field. If it happens again, then it might be time to think about Arnie out.

It will not improve with GA as manager we will not win a competitive game in the world cup and we will not win the Asian cup - i dont know what he offers he has never achieved anything as a manager (wow he won the League with SFC big woop) there is no point having him in charge other then saving money and the FFA showing they would rather pay themselves bonuses then actually hire the right man.

I hope we turn this around under Arnie so the haters can enjoy swallowing their own bile. I am no huge fan of Arnie, but the Arnie hate is way way over the top and has developed into some weird ideology. I am no fan of ideologues!

I admit I'm no fan of Arnie but lets see what happens next game. I mean if we dont beat Palestine then something is clearly wrong.
Amini should play, he was good against Oman and he is s ball player, and finds a pass.
Rogic has lost me, seems he gets the ball and for all his apparent skills just doesn't know what to do with it.
It must be that he has smart players around him in Scotland and they are directing the play and he just follows on. When he has the job of directing play he is unable to do it.
Replace him with Amini FGS.
Arnie looks stressed and confused.

Realistically, GA has one game left. Fuck that up and he's in big trouble. He will never manage in Australia again.

We should be Palestine and get a result against Syria to qualify for the next round. I’d join the Arnie out bandwagon if we didn’t.

If you watch him play he is always trying to get onto his left and so not only is he predictable, but also slow to move the ball.

I think we should give him the job... from seeing training he's doing everything anyways... the reason Pep is so successful is during training he is out on the pitch working with the players... not walking around rubbing his chin on the sidelines...

Funny we never see a KEEP, but only SACK NT coach threads here.
So many impatient fools - if its not GA its Ange if not ANGE its BVM and Veerbek before that etc etc.
We could have an open cheque book to employ a coach, and a SACK thread would appear before he's signed.

And I don't particularly like GA as our national coach

Yeah, that's easy, don't broadcast your tactics before the match. eg:" we are going to play like liverpool " , but to be fair we have been playing against parked buses since Ange , remember how we couldn't score, seems not much has changed. The main thing is we want to keep the ball, so rather then running at defenses when we get the ball in space we hold it up for support whilst letting the opposition get in behind the ball. When the opposition gets the ball they run at us and stretch our defense.

They were tipped bottom in 2011 when he finished second, not to make the finals the next season (Won the premiers plate) and still in 2013 players were not paid on time and would go months playing for him without being paid and they won the championship. Won Premiers plate in 2012 (Runner up 2011 and 2013) Won Championship in 2013 (Runner up in 2011) I don't even like him as a manager but he deserves a lot more respect for what he achieved at CCM.
