With the group stage done we have 3 excellent batters, a very functional bowling unit and a middle order where all 4 players are well down on their career averages but have often done enough to win matches
David warner: 8.5/10 Warner's average has been absolutely phenomenal as has his fielding. He has struggled badly for placement though which has brought his strike rate down to 89 Finch 9/10 With Warner struggling for to up the Ante, Finch has been the aggressor striker at an excellent 103 while still averaging a very strong 56. A couple of mistakes in captaincy but he has mostly been spot on and has bowled some handy spin to take the pressure off the other all rounders Khawaja 7/10 one of our two middle order anchor batsmen has averaged 35 at a strike rate of 88. Not exemplary but good enough to win a few games. Part of a middle/lower order unit that has collectively been slightly below where they would like but good enough Smith 7/10 The return of the goat has had a difficult cup averaging 32 at a brisk 91. Also provided some spin options. Still some of those knocks have been match winners. Also a key infielder. Him, warner and Maxwell make for one of the most formidable infields in world cricket Maxwell 6/10 As an all rounder, Maxwell is there to do a number of rolls so along with stoinis and Carey needs to be graded on a curve. Maxwell has been excellent at 3 out of his 5 roles. He has fielded incredibly as part of one of the best infields in cricket, kept things tight with the ball with an economy rate of 5.7 which is an incredible luxury to have for a fifth bowler. Finally he has been the best finisher in the tournament striking at 206 and being pretty consistent when he comes in after 30 overs at turning good platforms into match winning scores. However, he has failed miserably in two roles: the lower order recovery where he has gotten out for 0,1 and 12 bringing his average down to 22. He has also failed to pick up wickets, but you can live with that as a 5th bowler. Stoinis 5.5/10 Stoinis is the other all rounder and has had almost no redeeming qualities with the bat at all. He has averaged 17 at a very sluggish strike rate of 78. All rounder is the hardest role in the team so they should be graded on a curve but still his batting has not only been a failure, but he has put pressure on those around him. With the ball he has bowled with an economy of 6.1 which is very good for a 5th bowler and his average is quite frankly phenomenal for a 5th bowler at 33 Carey 7/10 The third all rounder in the team has been unbelievable at 2 of his batting roles. I'm not sure we have had a keeper batsmen bat as well at a world cup as he has. He has averaged 66 at a strike rate of 118 with innings that include counter attacking recoveries as well as some blasting at the end. His finishing is beaten only by Finch and Maxwell at this world cup! On the other hand I don't recall anyone keeping as badly as him at a world cup. He has given away over 20 runs this world cup and 8 dismissals by my count. I doubt there is a keeper that is as close to that bad. Still the 3 all rounder roles are the hardest roles NCN 5/10 is technically an all round option and his batting has actually been the strong point here. He has gotten out cheaply twice but also had a match winning knock of 92 off 60. His bowling makes for ugly reading with an average of 70 and an economy of 6po Starc 9.5/10 The goat has really had 2 bad performances and they cost us points. But he has been the goat otherwise taking an incredible 26 averaging 16.6 at an economy of 5.2 Cummins 8/10 Excellent with the old ball and quite economical but his death bowling hasn't been at its best in my opinion. He's averaged a decent 30.2 at a very good economy of 5.0 Dorf 7/10 Hasn't played a lot games which prevents him from getting a higher rating but his impact so far has been excellent averaging 21 at an economy of 5.1 A new ball specialist that really balances the squad Kane 6.5/10 a seriously underrated old ball player who has been liam plunkett like in not looking threatening but taking wickets. He averages an incredible 21.8 but is a little expensive at 6.3rpo. Probably next in line if an injury occurs. Lack of games prevents a higher score Zampa 5/10 an unhappy tournament for spinners. He has averaged 47.2 which even in the context of a middle over bowler is quite high. His economy rate is also an alarming 7.2 Lyon 6/10 Brought balance to the side with an incredible economy rate of 4.5. His average is 44 which is a little high, though not terrible for an old ball bowler. Lack of games prevents a higher score
