time to take a star off your flag so you can wave it tomorrow!
New zealands haven't had a great batting tournament but their bowling average has been pretty incredible this tournament. Their attack has taken 77 wickets at an incredible average of 27!

I’m not sure who I want to win?
I feel very at home in both countries.

Have either the Poms or Kiwis won a WC before?
If they haven’t, it will be good to have a new winner of the comp.

Rhetorical question and I’m sure you’re being ironic with the last bit :-) Serious point though, how many more W Cups will there be since T20 & Test (championship) set to be the main versions?

No, not gloating at all - we just scraped CWC on home soil by the barest of margins as Ian Smith put it. I couldn’t bear to watch the super over!

If there was an instance when the World Cup should be shared.. this is it. Finished even after the Super Over but as England had reached the boundary more often than the Kiwis.. she was awarded the Cup. Is this totally fair.. worse than the penalty shootout to decide soccer matches.. Kiwis should lodge an appeal!!

The most boundaries is a nonsense as the tracks are designed for boundary hitting. Gets bums on seats. You are aware that is your countrymen's first WC victory. How long have you been playing this format. Started ODIs in what.. the 70s before Packer revolutionized the format. Kane Williamson is a gentleman and a bloody good cricketer. Looking forward to having the Black Caps in Oz next summer. See ya on the Countdown To the Ashes thread.

England on top after dismissing Taylor.
4-141 after 33 overs I’m not sure the Kiwis can set a defendable total.

With 4 wickets down, NZ are nearly at the 40 over mark and are only just over 4 runs an over.
Methinks not enough to win.

I thought Jonny Bairstow was a decent keeper for England if my memory is correct?
Jos Buttler did well to supplant him.
Impressive 10 over spell from Plunkett to secure figures of 3-42.

Jofra Archer is bowling at 150km/h. This will give the Aussie batsmen a lot to deal with, especially if he can hit the right length and get swing/seam.
In the India series, none of the Aussie quicks were hitting 150km/h. I think Cummins and Hazlewood were usually at least ten klicks less. It’s a worry if none of the Aussie quicks are capable of bowling super quick.

Meredith clocked 154 kph in a BBL game and played a full season of Shield cricket.

Meredith was easily the fastest bowler in the Shield.
The keepers, Paine and Wade, stood way further back to him than any other keeper keeping to any other bowler last season at Bellerive.

those 2 shots (and the wicket) are scoreboard pressure
You look back at the last game against australia and we got flogged. But its amazing how an extra 20 runs and you get wickets with the scoreboard
No matter what the scoreboard says at the end of the game, cricket is often decided by a dozen runs each way

finally bairstow chops one on
he cant complain about luck! Chopped on a bunch, got dropped, a few balls just missing fielders, ball just missing the edge a bunch of times
1 more wicket in the next 10 and its game on!
Morgan and Stokes are the last players that can play for 50 overs on a pitch like this

Game ends in a tie! Super over ends in a tie!
England win on a technicality
If it was wickets rather than boundaries it goes the other way.

all the luck went in 1 direction, and if England weren't going to win with that much luck on home soil with the best batting line up they've had in decades they were never going to win
still what a finish followed by another dramatic finish. Shame they can't share the cup!
Key moments in the game that NZ will look back on
1. Wasting a review and then getting a howler against ross taylor 2. ducking the last ball of their innings and not scampering through for a bye. With the game decided by 0 runs 1 run could have won the world cup 3. a missile first ball not given out and then given umpires call. We measure the doubt by needing 51% of the ball hitting the stumps, so umpires call stood. But you can see the stumps and it hit him fairly deep at a low height. So unlucky. He would only make a few but it meant the middle order didn't have to come in against a boult with his tail up. Boult eventually became their weakest bowler 4. De Granhomme dropping a return catch. Bairstow would then make another 30 odd and shield the middle order from the new ball 5. chop ons not hitting the stumps, swings missing the edge, ball spooning in the air to fall safe. What a horrible run of luck that will give our neighbours nightmares. Glad it wasn't happening to us! 6. 6 off overthrows. You rarely see it and it was nearly a run out. In the end it got England to the tie and the super over
As for Australia, I hope we have a plan for how we will compete at the next world cup. We often have superstars come from no where, lets hope that continues. But do we need a style?
England formed a style of #batdeep but changed their style mid tournament to have 5 specialist bowlers. New zealand also had no weak bowlers. I like the focus on the ball. These days teams can chase 400 and it is much more key skill to take wickets.
I hope we have 6 batters including the keeper and 5 specialist bowlers with no all rounders. But we'll see what cattle comes through and plan accordingly

Fair play to England winning.
Even if if they were lucky with the rules.

how was this not a wide? You can see the ball and the white line https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nNJVv48OZMit literally bounces outside the line. Not exactly a grey area The roar today asks what would happen if it was any other team but NZ https://www.theroar.com.au/2019/07/16/new-zealand-were-robbed-in-the-world-cup-final/
