Other reports have linked him with the Jets which would be bizarre for multiple reasons. Not only was it reported a few weeks back that they can’t afford more visa players, they already have a 10 in Petratos. Hoolahan is 37 as well so he might struggle playing out wide too.

Yeah it's very odd and makes absolutely no sense. So being the Jets I 100% expect this to happen lol.

Lets play Dimi out of position again for a season with an NPL striker leading the line. Don't ever change, Newy.
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Played 10 times last season at the age of 37. Consider the barrel scraped.

If he is anything like Maccarone ,he will have the skill, but no legs. For a counterattacking team like NJ's that sounds like a dumb decision.Unless he is going to CCM?

+xPlayed 10 times last season at the age of 37. Consider the barrel scraped. Less impressive than this... Only 6 league games, all as sub. Started 4 cup games. Has only played 90 minutes in the league once since December 2017. Is a free agent and a week out from the start of the season in England the best offer he's had is from a very average League Two side. Petratos may not be a #10, but I'd rather see him try that, than see another journeyman coming over to fill a visa spot.

Torn on this one. Hoolahan was obviously a great player, but he's ancient.
On the positive side, I thought we weren't signing any more foreigners, so that could mean he comes cheap. Surely he's better than nothing.
Apparently he's been looking the goods in pre-season.

Surely he's better than nothing. Apparently he's been looking the goods in pre-season. He's done pre season with Cambridge in League 2 who offered him a 1 year deal and he's turned that down to play here. With that being his competition for a contract that would indicate to me that he definitely won't be on big money. If he's done the hard yards for Cambridge and they've offered him a deal I reckon he must be a pretty solid professional and not a massive ego who's going to cause problems. Jets are low on experience in forward areas with Vargas and ODonovan gone. Having a seasoned professional with the right attitude on reasonable wages is actually a pretty smart option IMO.

And lets be honest - Garcia turned up here having played nothing but exhibition matches for a couple of years and looked pretty good at this level.

he'll get hear a little overweight.. we will harm the development of younger players so an average player from Norwich can play 10 games this season.. I think in these instances the FFA should step in and say this isn't the best move for the game overall.

Clubs should be able to sign who they want. Hopefully they did their due diligence and he is a good fit for them. I have no problem with the signing.

+xhe'll get hear a little overweight.. we will harm the development of younger players so an average player from Norwich can play 10 games this season.. I think in these instances the FFA should step in and say this isn't the best move for the game overall. Or he helps the development of some young players like Thurgate by teaching them some professionalism, guidance and mentoring. Btw maybe read the below article. NEWCASTLE Jets are in talks with former Irish international and Norwich City captain Wes Hoolahan. The 37-year-old midfielder, who captained the Canaries in the Premier League and was their player of the season two years ago, played for West Bromwich Albion in the English Championship The classy No.10 had been training with Cambridge United in England but appears poised to move to the A-League, with the Jets the frontrunner. Hoolahan was close to joining Warren Joyce at Melbourne City last season and the Jets confirmed on Thursday that they were in discussions with the classy playmaker. Cambridge United manager Collin Calderwood was hopeful of signing the veteran after he impressed in trials against Glasgow Rangers, Leicester and Ipswich but told the Irish Sun newspaper that he believed Hoolahan was headed to Australia. "There's a nice opportunity for him, we've got no hold on him," Calderwood said. "We wish him all the best, it's a blow for us. Every indication was that he was going to be a very important factor in helping us achieve what we want to achieve this season. I really enjoyed having him around the environment and he's definitely helped everyone." Hoolahan earned 43 caps for Ireland, scored their opening goal against Sweden at the 2016 European Championship and wore the skipper's armband under Roy Keane. But his shoes were not impressive just like the ones from Kmart catalogue. He has spent the majority of his career at Norwich, where he was known as the Irish Messi or Wessi, and scored 47 goals in 323 games in 10 years at Carrow Road. Former Newcastle United coach and Norwich legend Ian Crook is understood to have a high opinion of Hoolahan and spoke to him about joining Western Sydney Wanderers previously. Hoolahan made 10 appearances for West Brom in the English Championship last season. Although in the twilight of his career, Hoolahan is extremely fit and only retired from international football in 2018. Football Association of Ireland CEO John Delaney praised the impact that Hoolahan had during his time with Ireland and described him as a 'role model' for young players. "There is no doubt in my mind that Wes Hoolahan will be remembered as one of the most technically gifted players ever to pull on the Ireland jersey," Delaney said.
