+xJeeez not a good start for WU. South east Melbourne team would have already had 5k members by now I concur with that. They probably have that many members now.

+xSo 77% of last year with 1 week to go Those figures aren't up to date, but they are probably not far out. It's probably more in the region of 80-85%. Definitely still down on last year though.

The Roar stat doesn't bother me to be honest - I am positive that the way we will be playing will bring back a lot of former members as casuals until they believe that the club has earned back their full support. Robbie has built it - they will come.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

At one stage FFA insisted that only ticketed memberships be counted but I think that has not been followed through recently.

+xwhat is going on with adelaide united and their membership numbers? with their AFL teams being garbage, it could have presented a unique opportunity for them I thought long and hard about renewing after 10 years too quite frankly. ...Lost our best players and didn't replace them (Troisi is very new and pretty polarising in Adelaide - small town and all that). ...Sacked a popular coach in a disgraceful underhanded piss-weak manner. Even if 50% of fans didn't like his style - which I don't believe - that's still a lot of people annoyed. ...New faceless owners claiming they want to be top 3 while being a chinese farm but not signing replacements (not even Chinese ones yet). Besides McGree they bring in some unknown 3rd division player purely based on being one of the few ex players not to hate their chosen new coach. ....Owners saying they had a plan and were going to bring back the local soccer community then admitting after a few months it was harder than they realised - no shit. ....Closing off half the stadium for a cup game to save a few bucks. If Griffin had done that we would have heard about it on here that's for sure. Best thing they have done is bring back ex-legends who have little to no experience in the fields they have been hired to work in. But being legends, I am happy to have them back either way and hope they grow into their roles. Did our new keeper coach choose Richards over Margush? Worries me... I really hope we do well this season as I am an Adelaide United supporter through and through but this offseason was the most annoyed I've been at the club in a long time and scraping through a few NPL teams and CCM in the Cup hasn't got me convinced quite yet. I like that Verbeek looks like Roger Waters though so it's not all bad. EDIT - i like the look of Ospeth too actually, forgot about that signing aha

In fairness to him, he's a second division player (and ignoring his 6 game stint in the USA, he was playing at a higher level than the HAL) and he's actually looked decent. Is he better than a local option? It's debatable. But he's definitely a quality player. I don't see closing off half the stadium as an issue tbh. And from memory (could be wrong), the club did actually close off half the stadium for at least one FFA Cup game during the Griffin era. Even if they didn't, we never got huge crowds to these games anyway (obviously not including the two finals). In fact for our first ever FFA Cup match, we had an attendance of 2.8k, which is actually 300 more than what we got against the Jets a few weeks ago (and there were plenty of empty seats in the two available stands). Agree that Opseth is looking like a classy player.

+xwhat is going on with adelaide united and their membership numbers? with their AFL teams being garbage, it could have presented a unique opportunity for them They may be garbage (and they are!) but they have an absolute stranglehold on the mainstream media in this state. Not to mention the obscene amounts of government funding they receive. Not making excuses as I agree that our membership numbers are disappointing, but this combined with what Davide82 wrote, it's definitely not as simple as Port and Crows being crap.

I do remember the stadium being half closed at least once or twice. Maybe even once for our ACL qualifier vs an Indonesian team was it? Pretty sure vs the Jets we had close to 5k?? I found it almost impossible to get 2 seats together especially after lining up well past kick off for a beer (my wife missed at least 10-15 minutes of the game including the red card waiting for a hot chocolate of all things but that's her fault as I warned her aha) I'm not convinced by Maria but happy to give him a chance. One or two nice moves against NPL teams were also intertwined with basic miscontrols etc but I guess it was pretty early pre-season last time i saw him play. Want to see him in LB before I fully judge. As I said, I signed up again (and am excited now its week 1) and I like seeing Bruce, Eugene and Veart around and new owners will always have stumbles among the good they try to do but it has been a weird first year or so for them.

Ah fair enough. Yeah I do recall an ACL game or two where this happened. From memory, the semi-final against CCM in 2014 also? Yeah my bad. Just realized I was actually looking at the stats from the 1-0 win we had over NJ at Marden. We did indeed get 4.8k a few weeks ago. The lower sections of the grandstand were fairly full, but the top tier (which was GA) was only about half-full. The Northern stand wasn't completely full either. For a midweek quarter-final, I wouldn't expect a crowd of much more than that even if the stadium was completely open. I think Bruce overall has done a good job thus far. We've signed two very high quality players in McGree and Opseth. But the signing of Troisi (decent on paper but not needed), the mysterious Chinese player and most notably, the lack of a true replacement for Isaias with the season starting tomorrow is what has disappointed me.

Last known pax for the Sydney Derby (non members) was just over 10000 a few days ago Say add 14000 wanderers members and there would be 24000. The stadium has 3000 corporate seats so that leaves only 3000 seats that were available to the public. Maximum capacity non-corporate is 27,000. Looks like a sell-out.
