Can't blame him for chasing the cash (again) because he's not really going to improve as a footballer from this point on in his career, but I really hope we get some young, strong CB's coming through the ranks quick smart.

Fucking donkey. He already had his pay day in Asia and it nearly fucked his whole career.

Maybe he couldnt get a gig anywhere else? I dunno but you think a move to any second div would be possible and better. It’s a shame because he had more potential than this.

Hopefully Souttar, Degenek and Timotheou can heap pressure on Sainsbury through good club form.
Sainsbury’s club career is one of the sadder stories in Socceroo history lately.

+xHopefully Souttar, Degenek and Timotheou can heap pressure on Sainsbury through good club form. Sainsbury’s club career is one of the sadder stories in Socceroo history lately. I would have made an exception last WC cycle , but this one nope. Should be no where near the team unless he proves something somehow. However, the last time he was in west Asia, he was a DM ? if I am correct. Hardly training for the WC, where he will more than likely be a CB.

I think some people are writing off the standard of Saudi club football on the basis of little to no knowledge.
I don't see a problem with Sainsbury signing for a Saudi club. For whatever reason he hasn't been cutting it anywhere he's gone for the last 3 or 4 years, so his options were limited, and anyway he's become way too error prone to be the anchor for the Roos defence.
But such a good player at his best. Hopefully for him and for us he can recapture that form with regular game time.

Well, he’ll get more money and their league is arguably better than the A-League now. In fact, quite a few in Asia are.

Never settled cause he made the mistake of going to china, worse yet, not playing in China. Doesn't won't to do the hard yards and chases the money. If he sticks it out in saudi arabia for 6 months id be surprised, if he was there for 2 years i would then believe that it was a career move rather than a money move. But 2 years will never happen. He should've moved back to the a-league and reset his career. Plenty have done it.

Easily the most talented Socceroo to never get close to their potential in my lifetime. What a waste. Agree the China move has effectively harpooned his career.

Zwolle got smashed last night. The hope is that he can stay in Holland. If he's really keen on money again then that's a shame. I guess the Saudi league is better than nothing but it's a horrible league.
I just can't see his young family going from nice place in Europe to a place like Saudi Arabia.

This is only an assumption but I wonder if his personality goes against him in professional environments. He in the past has come across as not caring but this was only because of his very relaxed nature.

He in the past has come across as not caring but this was only because of his very relaxed nature. It's a true observation. He does often come across as easy going and I wonder if there's the drive and professionalism needed. He often doesn't show much care when a goal is conceded. Shrugs shoulders and starts again. Despite that I recall reports that he's the one always talking on the pitch and directing play.

Such a disappointment. He was by far our best player at the Confed and one of our best at the WC.

The top 4 Saudi clubs are a decent standard, so wouldn’t be the worst move.
Interesting that Degenek is allowed to play in Saudi and for the Roos, but if Sains does it some people are making silly claims like he shouldn’t be in the national team.

Did you just completely forget people losing their shit when Degenek did it as well, especially after he fucked up in the Asian Cup?

I wasn't going to say anything until after you addressed your "Pala propaganda" comment, but I see you're doubling down. There's just no way any potential move to Saudi Arabia could be viewed as anything other than primarily a wallet stuffing exercise, and not about seeking badly needed quality game time. We all know he could easily find a smaller Dutch, Belgian or Swiss club and play every match. The comparison to Degenek is a particularly poor argument given the context that he was sold by his club, and was playing (actually playing) European Champions League football immediately prior to that, and fortunately is now out of there. Going to be very disappointing if it happens.

Can't have your 1st team CB playing in such a backwater. Should not be playing for the NT. Shame
