+xThey are a third Melbourne team playing an hour and a half from their base. The whole thing has been more successful than I expected. Looking to have more genuine and enthusiastic support than GWS. Lol. Geelong isn't 90min away from Tarneit.

+x+x+xNot bad for a game against the Nix. Idk seems pretty low for Australia’s self proclaimed biggest club’s first home game Yep, a team for ALL OF SYDNEY, plays out of Kogarah and Leichardt. For the record, how many matches are scheduled for western Sydney while you guys are homeless? SFC has the biggest identity crisis in the league. They want to be the biggest but same time exclusive/bling. You can’t be the every mans clubs and snobby at the same time....

The club has stated however they are open to the possibility of a match at Bankwest. I'm all for it. As for Bankwest, won't happen. Guarantee we would have something in our users agreement which prevent you lot playing home games there. Enjoy ANZ :D So bankwest stadium are going to turn down $70k So the RBB can keep calling us east sydney. Btw Kogarah is in southern sydney. Look at a map.

South Eastern 😜 And take a look at a map yourself. If you dissected Sydney into Eastern and Western corridors, where do you reckon Kogarah would fall? Even if we chose Eastern, Centre East, Centre West and West, yep, Kogarah is that Far East it’s not funny. I think it’s cute you guys now want to play in our stadium. The fact your club would even consider it an option, and some of you think it’s acceptable, shows how far removed you are from understanding a proper rivalry. Plus, aren’t you guys worried about catching something, or drive bys? Thought you hated scummy Parramatta. Pffft. You’re the biggest club in the land, you’d have no trouble filling ANZ.

The home Sydney derby needs to be played at Kogarah. It would be the best thing to do.
Also I think it'll be that much of a success that Sydney FC fans missing out will make sure they sign up for memberships the following season just so they get a guaranteed ticket.

+x+x+x+x+xNot bad for a game against the Nix. Idk seems pretty low for Australia’s self proclaimed biggest club’s first home game +x+x+xCity has bigger reach with casuals in Melbourne as it’s a sporting day/night out in the city, WU don’t have that. If anything City get the crowds they do because they play in the city, reacon they would draw much worse in the suburbs whichever direction they went in. Yep. Precisely why I never understood the argument from so many that South Melbourne is no good for the league because their home ground is too close to the CBD (precisely why it was the very best option!) No one living a decent part of Melbourne is going to travel out to Geelong, Ballarat or, heaven bid, Tarneit, for a night out. But they would have travelled to South Melbourne, from all over Melbourne. The argument was more that South Melbourne is too close to aami Park and marvel and you couldn’t have teams that close to eachother. if western United v Perth was in the city I would have gone and taken 10 people with me, then hung out in the cbd, Geelong or tarneit god no. You would never have gone anyway, so it’s a mute point. The reality is that the league needs to broaden its geographic footprint, which is what WU or Team 11 offered far more value on than another inner city club.
MV and MC both are reported to have objected to a 3rd club in Melbourne, however if there was anyone they likely would have preferred it was WU, as SMFC was a far larger threat at just cutting into their supporter bases.
Even though MV in particular has a good footprint in the West and Geelong region, there are barriers to entry for a number of fans to get involved playing 95% of matches in Inner city Melbourne.
Unlocking more support in Geelong and Ballarat would bring additional value for the league, which will be further boosted by the significant growth in the western suburbs that is occurring. The concept is strong, but the execution is key. The execution is already on the path to failure because the club already has an identity crisis. MV have unlocked more support in that region that they could ever dream of regardless. As for me not going. I've attended the first ever home games of collingwood and carlton in the nsl, and Victory/heart in the A league. WU are the first i havent been to..of all those teams i mentioned the WU crowd was the lowest of the 4..2 of those clubs dont exist anymore and 1 has been repackaged. Its going to take something pretty miraculous to make this work. That's cool to hear you went to them games. I've tried doing a google images search of how they configured the pitch as these grounds, how the game looked from the stands etc? There really is limited information on Collingwood Warriors in particular on google so any info or stories you have on them would be much appreciated. From memory their first crowd was really well attended in 96/97 but from book i read that the neutrals were put off by the Heidelberg supporters or something along the lines of this... Could you give me an insight on what it was like? Happy to get a PM if it goes off topic here. They basically moved the pitch at both venues closest to the main grandstands. Not great but wasn’t the worst, Collingwood warriors got 15k+ against knights first ever game, gates were thrown open 15 minutes before kick off as the crowds outside were too big. 2 things that ultimately hurt Collingwood. 1) overzealous policing/security at games turned people off, 2) didn’t take long for the afl club to pull its funding which quickly turned the thing into an outright disaster, on paper they had one of the best teams in the league that year they were in it. Don’t think neutrals were turned off it, they did their best to hide the heidelberg links including having the team come out to the Collingwood theme song. Once word hit that financially it was going down the toilet they were done, this all happened very fast. Carlton never really had a following to begin with, just under 7k first ever game against Perth from memory and then it dipped from there for the exception of the games against South, another club that had incredible talent on field but no pull off it. The biggest shambles with Carlton was the crowds would actually double after half time as you would have 1000-1500 waiting to get in for free, was all rather embarassing.

Unless someone can point me to the contrary, no A-League clubs own a stadium. They do have contracts with stadium owners to play in the stadiums but that isn't the same as ownership.

Anyone can play there for a price. 2. I seem to remember distinctly remember the Wanderers playing out of the SFS so that's a moot point. Also plenty of great world football derbies share stadiums.

Not one to fight the statistics as early crowds are struggling but you have to be careful throwing the expression “same time last year” around when there’s a bye in place. Mat the same time mast year Roar had played at home twice to an aggregate crowd of over 30,000. This year they’ve only played once, Jets same.

In past seasons, fans called out poor play and crowds in time reflected what people were saying... this year and if we are honest is the first year in a while where their seems to be general consensus [aside from the regular trolls], that the Football has improved .... I think the crowds will over the season reflect and improvement in the standard or say quality of the games...
As an aside and I can only speak from a deep knowledge about the Mariners but we have one of the best midfields we have had in a long time .... and we are trailing two visa 9's, one from Eastern Europe and the other from South America... if we sign a decent 9 ... then we will be watchable and that has not been the case the last 3 years...

You let us break your invincible run when it mattered most.

+xTechnically it is, and i am well against this idea. Why are they getting two home derbies two years in a row ? If our home is Kogarah, then that is where we play it then. If you're a Sydney fan you probably should know this, but SFC have handed WSW 2 home games this season, but will have the favour returned when the new stadium is complete. +xffa cup final 15k bris vs victory 15k (first home game) newcastle vs adelaide 9k (first home game) wsw vs sydney 30k (nearly sold out) wellington vs perth 10k (gary hopper debut) WU vs melb city 8k (stupid kick off time) ffa cup final 15k BR v MVFC - 12k (they've only passed the 15k mark once in the past 3 years) Jets v Adelaide - 9k WSW v SFC - 27k (sellouts never seem to mean full house anymore) Distance Derby - 7k WU vs City - 9k (kick off time sucks I agree)

I thought the Sydney fc game At Leichhardt looked great for the number reported. Both games there and Kogarah look better on TV then Allianz ever did.
