+x+x+x+x+x+x+xWellington almost got a bigger crowd against CCM, than City vs WU got at AAMI Park.... Good for the nix, doesn't look great for the two Melbourne teams, but as I said, up and down the East coast, terrible conditions. Agreed What the heat and fires affect: The A League, ABC from 5pm til 7pm, Foxsports 505 What it doesnt affect: The BBL, Channel 7, Foxsports 501 and Kay Sports 3 Melb clubs is unsustainable. 2 of the 3 melb clubs dont serve any real purpose. You could have 5 sustainable Melb clubs if a bit of thought went into it. 5 fully professional clubs? By professional I mean professional in all departments not just the football department and meeting both the FIFA and AFC licensing requirements as well as any A-League requirements. 5 professional clubs per million people doesn't sound too ambitious to me. It is arguable whether we have any fully professional clubs in Australia at the moment so it would surprise me if Melbourne or anywhere else could support 5.

I would argue that SydneyFC is the only truly professional club we have at the moment.

+xI would argue that SydneyFC is the only truly professional club we have at the moment. Academy facilities? Free for all youth players? Full competition throughout the summer for reserve/youth players? Open to full transfer fee system? etc

+xI would argue that SydneyFC is the only truly professional club we have at the moment. The only thing Sydney FC have managed is how to dominate a league with 10 teams the size of Newcastle and Gosford They are effectively a team at the top of a second tier but without a bigger league to move into They will still suck when the ACL swings around soon, and any of their Aussie players who go overseas will still return after 1 or 2 seasons

Oh ok, keep pretending that your teams playing park football standard are professional.

Your second point is just fuckin stupid.

+xJets v SFC - 7k Nix v WSW - 8k Roar v City - 7k Glory v AUFC - 8k CCM v Victory - 6k Surely not that low for some; Newcastle have averaged over 8k and a fair few Sydney fans will travel, plus Sydney being the top team will attract a few more casuals. Nix fingers crossed can get over 9, maybe 10k this round. Crowds growing recently with form and hopefully that continues. WSW are much more appealing to watch then CCM. And Roar having not played a home in 3 or so weeks could definitely and you would hope could draw 10k, especially against a decent side like City. Glory and CCM crowds, yeah maybe about right.

+xJets v SFC - 7k Nix v WSW - 8k Roar v City - 7k Glory v AUFC - 8k CCM v Victory - 6k Not a single A-league game in Sydney. The only football game in Sydney is the Wanderers Women v Roar Women at Marconi on Sunday afternoon.

+x Not a single A-league game in Sydney.
+xNo HAL games in Melbourne either. i wonder if this is a coincidence or deliberate? this is the time of the year where the HAL gets lost in the traffic, so maybe they are avoiding scheduling bigger games?

Fixturing department needs a shake up, every season we get the two Melbourne teams playing in Melbourne or both are interstate on the same weekend. This should never happen.

Interesting stuff, evidence for the midseason slump. Howe is another one of those people who Australian football is lucky to have.

I think it would have been better to present the data as a percentage increase/decrease. The table makes it look like Aleague is the more consistent league, though due to the lower crowds it is probably the least consistent...
