+xCity vs Sydney Saturday night could get good ratings Let’s hope so. We need less talk about ratings failures and more about the football itself.

+xCity vs Sydney Saturday night could get good ratings yes it should do well on ABC, no fans allowed to attend though which is a bit strange for a game when Sydney is lifting the plate

WSW vs Wellington got 14k Haven't seen any other ratings since 2nd game back, so this currently is the highest Fox rating I know of since the return.

Watched the City TV coverage on YouTube today and thought it was well presented.
Looking at the number of views that it appeared to receive though would be a bit disappointing for the investment that was likely required.

1st vs 2nd was expecting more Let’s just forget about ratings as they will not be good viewing. There’s next to no way of turning the mess we now find ourselves in into a good news story quickly. Likely best to just focus on the football for once.

Winter football won't be a long term viable option The ABC ratings have been pretty good though. ABC ratings have been about the same as they were during summer. Foxtel ratings have been awful, and as foxtel pay the bills. They'll most likely demand the a-l go back to summer if FFA want a contract beyond next season.

Foxtel ratings suck because people canned their subs and did not return once the league recommenced. Some may have got kayo. Regardless, Foxtel is dead under it’s current model for football.

1st vs 2nd was expecting more I stumbled across a tweet today, not realising you had already put the ratings up from last Saturday. I won't compare to the big Winter codes, but it's worth comparing to some of the less lights, ratings for the same day. Netball Gem: Firebirds vs Lightning, 88k Gem: Thunderbirds vs Fever, 82k Rugby Fox: Brumbies vs Reds, 62k Fox: Chiefs vs Crusaders, 36k I'll just add one thing, barely two years ago, we would have expressed concern at seeing a rating of 36k (which two NZ rugby sides achieved on Fox), but now, we'd celebrate such a number,

This crap about the A-league ratings diving over the last month, which they have, is irrelevant. Loads of people like me went "fuck it Sydney have won it anyway, I'll just start watching again next season".

Foxtel is borderline dead in its current model as a whole. For the monthly value of foxtel you could subscribe yourself to Netflix, Stan, Disney and Amazon and still spend less. Along with that the younger people and younger adults are consuming more social media and streaming services. If you took the average teenager at this point and measured the amount of time they spent Youtube, Netflix, Tik tok and social media in comparison with foxtel or FTA TV it would be massive. The model Foxtel grew off was inventive years ago but technology adapts fast, very fast. And it seems foxtel have been very slow with their adaption. I think the departure from Foxtel could be good for A-league depending obviously on whether they can secure a deal with Optus or another possible broadcaster.

I dropped foxtel in May and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything at all. I was on an expensive plan to give a broad range of content but I hardly ever watched most of it. The way of the future is a mixed coverage deal with streaming services, FTA and an in house FFA media option thrown in to the picture. It may need bring the $$ overnight, but it helps capture a broader audience, and limits the current issues of one broadcaster effectively benching our product and then claiming the numbers are bad. Of course they are when Foxtel go out of their way to show they couldn’t care less.

Friday night ratings are out (from Mediawweek): Fox
A-League: WU v WSW: 14k (it looks like we're stubbornly stuck in that 10k to 14k range)
Rugby: Rebels v Brumbies: 50k
AFL: Ess v Carl: 189k (911k on FTA)
NRL: Souths v Broncos: 248k (762k on FTA) Manly v Warriors: 216k
Once again the rugby, a cobbled together comp of 5 clubs, gets nearly 4x the ratings of an A-League game on a Friday night.
The tweet I saw also had some Thursday night ratings, incredibly, the Suns vs Saints got 208k, from what I understand, these are two of the smallest clubs in the AFL, in fact, the Suns probably have fewer fans than the Giants! So the Suns can attract 208k on a Thursday night, playing another small club, and a huge club like the Wanderers can only get 14k on a Friday night.

Kayo subscribers. 30/6/19= 331k 30/09/19= 364k 31/12/19= 350k 31/03/20= 409k 30/06/20= 419k 04/08/20= 542k So with NRL restarting on May 28th we get we get no noticeable bump with AFL restarting June 11, there is again no noticeable bump then with the a-league restarting July 17 we get a bump of 120k.

I mean if you want to throw restart figures out there. https://twitter.com/footyindustryAU/status/1291940459409899521

Either way, it shows a sizeable bump well after the resumption of AFL/NRL and coinciding with the a-league, which is pretty hard to ignore.

I am sure some fans took a couple of weeks to get around to it but regardless, I think Kayo would be happy with the bump in July and August and it does lend some credence to the idea that a sizeable amount of a-league fans are viewing through Kayo.
