I was very impressed with him pre-season. He was injured about Aug 10. We were told he'd be out for 5 weeks - that's long since passed!
We were told nearly 3 weeks ago that he was in full training and ready to play along with Mullen. As far as I know he hasn't featured with the youth, he just seems to have dissappeared.
We need him as Cornthwaite can't pass and he let Sigmond get in front of him and OUTJUMP him in the box in ChristChurch
Pretty sure he is back in training and is on a week to week assessment of fitness, we could see him Friday even - though expect himto make his return via the NYL.

They should have given the option to pay a small upgrade fee to all Red members to sit in the Western stand. I would have paid to sit there and I reckon a lot of other would have as well - very disapointed about that but still expecting a massive turnout. With the Western stand we should have a much higher limit on the ground than the 25k for the other games.

I was actually looking for that option too General. It's a shame they didn't offer that upgrade.
Regardless, I hope Gerard and co. will start pumping some money into the promotion of the blockbuster games at Adelaide Oval so that we can reach at least 20k attendance. I guess the main drawcard of the first of the games is the new stand, as I can't see many people enticed to watch us play against an out-of-form Sydney side.

I hope they do it without giving away tickets - I don't see the need and it undervalues the level of support the club has.

Well got there early on Fri. night and watched the Lady Reds for the second time this season, and was not impressed.
It appeared to me that the majority of people watching were parents or friends and if the women wearing Red actually found a team-mate with a pass, showed even minor ball control or even managed to come close to goal ( like 30 metres ) they cheered and shouted " good job " - ( or words to that effect )
Now I have no problem with this support, in fact I think it's great - if the team is playing at primary school. These girls are in the top competition in Australia, yet have been so far off the pace for 3 years it's pathetic.
Mike Barnett has an impressive record as a coach, however, he's always coached men who have 15 years experience in the game at least!
These girls can't seem to pass, have little understanding of running off the ball or ability to read the game, in fact I'm doubting they train, or if they do perhaps starting at basics would be good - like how to actually get the ball to a target.
When I saw Brisbane who even down to 10 players pretty much doing what they liked and ran out 3-1 winners and the red shirts I felt ashamed as a Red's supporter because the team wearing our badge were so bad and have been bad since the W-League began.
United are in a premier competition but have never given any real opposition, and this year will finish bottom like they have done before.
End of rant!! #-o

Edited by redcup: 12/12/2010 02:11:17 PM Comments on the women's forum of the SA football news forum say that it was a "good performance" by Adelaide! Any constructive criticism of AU players posted there are greeted with posts along the lines of "how dare you criticise X.... she is a lovely girl, and trains so hard, etc, etc" Sad to see Adelaide rock bottom, without a win.

Yeah our ladies are in a bit of ditch that they can't seem to get out of. But to be fair, the girls in the Brisbane side were pretty much all capped Matildas.

Which is my point. Adelaide United players should be challenging for spots in the NT as they are competing at that level - week in, week out.
Sorry didn't know there was a dedicated womens team forum. How do I get onto it?

Been a good week so far. Win for the Reds against the Fury, Usucar's signing, Coopers getting on board; let's hope everything is capped off with a win in our new shirts on Friday night against the Heart.

The Lady Reds are being dumped by the new owners now.... they were particularly annoyed by the fact that half of them don't even live in Adelaide!

Yeah, I saw that in the news last night too. Greg Griffen was saying the FFSA should put the money up to support them. For me, it's a bit stupid having girls who live interstate who fly in and out just for the games. The owners should probably have a look into that as well.

They Lady Reds should basically be the best South Australian womens players, one of the reasons they suck so much is because they never train together - seriously what is the point?

It's match day, and I am once again nervous heading into the game! But I think that nervousness has been replaced by excitement at seeing the new strip being worn tonight, and hopefully snapping up a shirt for myself.
Oh and the weather isn't looking too good at this point in time, but hopefully it clears before tonight. Why is it that every time we play at home, the weather turns shit? :(

Why is it that every time we play at home, the weather turns shit? :( Just about every Adelaide home game this season, the weather has either been freezing cold, or raining, or threatening to rain. In fact the weather over much of Australia has been bizarre for the last few months- a factor people never seem to take into account when they are moaning about the falling A League crowds...
