Hey! Hey! Now, now... play nicely!
I thought we did pretty well against Al Ahly last year. Those one-touch passes were pretty amazing to watch. Wish we could do more of that in this season... I can envisage Shin linking up with Dodd and Cassio.
As for that second vid... I'd rather not remember that...

Hehe... I'm just amused. I admit Victory are definitely our bogey team, but I'm sure that just fuels our rivalry even more. I'll be looking forward to see what our September 18 fixture holds.
The clash in Launceston shall be somewhat of a spectacle though, if both teams field a near complete line-up for the friendly.

I love our rivalry, even though it was a "bit" one sided last season! :p Much better than the Melbourne Vs Scum FC rivalry. I'm gonna go to the game in Launceston...will be good. I hope what you said is true!

I'm too lazy to think of anything smart or witty to reply to the above, so I'll leave you guys to do what you wish here. Not too fussed.
Though it is a bit of a shame you must come post videos of Melbourne's wins against us in an AU Supporters' thread...

Edited by RedsUnited: 2/7/2009 10:55:40 PM Getting back to some sort of regularity, i agree. It's good to see that both clubs have seen fit to maintain what has become something of a tradition in the Launceston game after the demise of the PSC.

Aiee! MV supporters filling up our beautiful thread with web junk! Ah DT & BP you two can be quite funny at times, one gets the feeling that you, like us, not having much to talk about in the off season, are getting mighty bored listening to all the other team supporters crow about how great they are going to be this season - when in fact we all know that AUFC & MV are going to finish the season as 1 & 2 again; though this time I want AUFC to be number 1! loki I have missed seeing you around here - now we just need Pips back, I have been convinced to visit The Roar due to Pips regular involvement there, one needs there fix of borderline humor as regularly as possible!

Currently in Sydney at the moment, and I've gotta say that the sports shops here have a tiny little corner with not much dedication to football. Picked up an official Reds cap for $15 at Rebel Sport though, dunno if its a national clearout of old stock or whatnot, but oh well.

Okay so I've heard that there's a friendly against the SA state team on Wednesday night at Hindmarsh (Kick off @ 7:30). It's more of a training game, as the kiosks and bars won't be open. I can't make it since I have work 'til 9... :(

Quote:Hughes bags double in 4-0 win over State Team Wednesday, 8 July 2009Two goals from midfielder Adam Hughes helped Adelaide United FC to a comfortable 4-0 win over the SA State Team at Hindmarsh Stadium tonight. Hughes struck in each half with young striker Francesco Monterosso opening the scoring in the 28th minute before defender Scott Jamieson capped off the dominant display with a scorcher from 30 metres late on. The Reds were without eight players for the match, defensive pair Robert Cornthwaite and Daniel Mullen, Brazilians Cassio and Cristiano, new signings Lloyd Owusu and Shin In Sup, and midfielders Paul Reid and Fabian Barbiero all missing the match. On a chilly night, it took 18 minutes for the game to heat up, with the first chance created by Monterosso missing a golden opportunity as he failed to hit the target despite having time inside the six yard box. The young striker had another chance with a header from a corner, but again he failed to test State keeper Ben Moore. Persistent pressure and possession then paid off for United just before the half hour, when it was a case of third time lucky for Monterosso, who beat Moore with a precision finish after Kristian Sarkies’ effort was deflected. Four minutes later The Reds had a second, Hughes heading home his first goal since joining the club after getting on the end of a pinpoint Travis Dodd cross. Monterosso and Sarkies both forced fine saves from Moore just before the break, preventing further addition to the score sheet. In the second half it wasn’t until the 72nd minute for the Reds to add another, when Hughes was rewarded for his hard work in midfield when he managed to scramble the ball over the goal line after a cheeky chip from Monterosso into the six yard box. Former Adelaide United midfielder Michael Matricianni looked the only real threat for the State Team, keeping Reds keeper Eugene Galekovic honest. Jamieson finished the scoring with the pick of the goals five minutes from full time, the talented left back timing a thunderous strike from 30 metres as the ball rocketed into the top corner. Galekovic ensured United secured a clean sheet just before the end, producing a fine low down save. The Reds’ next scheduled trial match is on July 21 in another hit out against Super League club Raiders before United faces arguably its biggest test of the pre-season in a grand final rematch against Melbourne Victory in Launceston on July 26. SOunds like a good settling game, gave some new faces an opportunity to get game time and helped Viddie to work out where we have good depth. May see a bit of squad rotation this year! Impressed that GCU managed to beat Fulham, of course it means we are never going to hear the end of it from Gaz...

Anyone have news on the friendly against Raiders? The above copy-paste was done as soon as the news was posted on the official website, but if you go to that article now, there's no more mention of the next game against Raiders (see the last paragraph of prose)...
I don't want to turn up to Croatian Sports Centre on Tuesday 21st July only to find no game on... :(

Has anyone heard anything about this bloke? Christian Esposito? Read it on the adelaidenow website and although i am highly suspicious of anything the advertiser publishes, I couldnt help but get hopes up of another young striker which was an area we struggled in last year. bullshit artist wrote:VAL MIGLIACCIO July 03, 2009 12:00am ADELAIDE UNITED is believed to be locked in a battle with Central Coast Mariners for the nation's most exciting young prospect.
Christian Esposito, the teenage protege of Italian star Christian Vieri, wants to play in Australia.
The Adelaide-born Esposito has been plying his trade with Italy's Albinoleffe and the Serie B club is willing to loan Esposito for 12 months.
Adelaide coach Aurelio Vidmar said the club was now exploring the possibility of luring Esposito to Adelaide before the start of the season.
The 184cm, 18-year-old forward made his senior debut in May as a midfielder.
"We'd like to see him here to see if he fits in," Vidmar said. "We've still got an under-21 spot to fill."
The Italian-born Vieri first played in Sydney with Marconi Stallions before making his mark with Juventus, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Lazio and the Italian national team, Esposito gained all of his knowledge in Italy's hard-hitting soccer excellence schools.
Esposito said he was eager to join Adelaide after learning of the club's exploits in last year's AFC Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan.
Esposito said Adelaide was an attractive proposition to further his career and to gain national team recognition with the South African World Cup tournament less than 12 months away.
"I'd like to play in Australia and in the Asian Champions League," Esposito said from Bergamo.
"My club has allowed me to go and gain experience in another football world.
"I've heard so much about the club and now Australia has made its mark after the national team qualified for another World Cup."

I've only known him from FM tbfh, but if he's willing to come out and give it his all, and only a on a loan too, then it might not be such a bad option.
