So, new away kit announced. Looks nice and all that.

http://www.a-league.com.au/article/adelaide-united-unveil-new-hyundai-a-league-kit/ygqi1avfkehs12785hji35lqg

Had a question about this part of the release:
Taking on supporter feedback from previous seasons, Adelaide and Macron will offer a more affordable replica kit (in home, away, and clash), as well as an authentic version of the Reds’ home strip. However, the replica kits will maintain the same quality and style as the authentic.

What was the cost of getting a kit last season?

I like it. Would be nice if they made the league logo cleaner and removed the white background & make the text white etc and if they changed their logo to be red only  with no background white like both teams have in this picture below. But overall good.  Image result for real madrid away

The away kit looks fairly good.

Don't think we should have a star above the badge though, they should be reserved for champions league trophies imo

So I emailed AU's info addy on their page last week (info@aufc.com.au) to try to find out when tickets will go on sale as I'll be in Adelaide for AU/MV on 22 Oct.

To date no reply at all... Professional much?

Does any one know when that on sale date might be? Seems a lot of other teams home games are on sale already.

Thanks.

Apparently we have quite a few players coming off contract. Who would you keep/release?

Eugene Galeković - Keep only on a reduced contract. His spot shouldn't be assumed as safe

John Hall - Keep and maybe look at as our next #1

Daniel Margush - Keep

Jordan Elsey - Keep

Dylan McGowan - Keep? Was good last season and there probably aren't too many Aussie CB's around

Iacopo La Rocca (V) - Release, the visa spot can be put to better use

Michael Marrone - Keep

Ben Warland - Keep but needs game time to develop

Mark Ochieng - See above

Taylor Regan - Either release or keep as a minimum wage squaddie only

George Mells - Release, shown nothing since signing two years ago

Isaías Sánchez (V) - Keep

Ryan Kitto - Keep

Jesse Makarounas - Release

Jordan O'Doherty - Keep

Marcelo Carrusca (V) - ? Torn on this one. Untouchable on his day but slowing down and getting more injury prone. Going the way of Cassio imo.

Riley McGree - Keep

Sergi Guardiola (V) - Still early days but probably look to replace. Can be too selfish, makes the wrong decision too often, and is severely one footed.

Nikola Mileusnić - Keep, he's shown promise

Sergio Cirio (V) - Probably keep,  only release if we have a good replacement guaranteed.

Marc Marino - Keep but unless he gets game time he might walk anyway

Henrique - Keep, but he should be an impact sub

Henrique, Garuccio and Elrich were the only starting players I thought did well enough last night. Maybe Isaias as well. Carrusca is in poor form and Cirio is a shadow of himself after his injury. I'll have to think about who I'd keep of the off-contract players but we definitely need some changes in January.

Galekovic - keep...just
Hall... I don't think he has enough in him (release)
Margush- has potential... keep
Elsey - Keep
Dylan McGowan - definitely keep
La Roocca - should cash in on him or release
Marrone - keep
Warland - needs game time could be a good player Keep
Ochieng- same as above Keep
Regan - keep if can't find another somewhat ordinary squaddie
Mells - really unsure, has had the opportunities for you guys but hasn't shown the quality that Southampton youths should possess (reluctant keep)
Isaias- keep
Kitto - keep
Maka - squaddie player at best keep
Cirio - release- many players of his calibre around the world, could do with a freshening up
Guardiola - keep unless he wants to leave. or find a replacement
O'Doherty - keep
Mcgree - has potential to be a great little playmaker
Carrusca - keep
Mileu- keep
Marino - keep - deserves a starting role scored a few bags in the NYL lately
Henrique - keep impact player off bench mainly though

La Rocca no longer occupies a visa spot.

My summary is,
Should retire
Galekovic - Slowing down, perhaps, partly, due to ongoing knee problems. While a lot of goalkeepers can play for much longer it seems Galekovic is not one of them, he is clearly worse than a couple of seasons ago.
Carrusca.- Is making less and less impact on games, body is weak, it is sadly time

Not good enough
Jesse Makarounas - has been very poor and needs to be let go. I would be in favour of the club trying to arrange him somewhere to go in January so we can be rid of him
Ben Warland - young CB who has shown nothing and do not see him ever being good enough
Mark Ochieng - again been around the side for long enough to impress and he has not done so

Should keep but likely to leave
Dylan McGowan - spent a long time considering his option in the off-season before signing a 1 year deal. I expect him to look around again and it is going to be less attractive to stay at the end of the season, although he might be a less attractive signing.
Iacapo La Rocca - rumours of him moving on have surfaced
Isaias - is being chased by other A-league clubs who might be able to offer him more money.

Keep
Hall - back up who has played some games at a reasonable level.
Margush - good in his one A-league game, should be a good back up or competition to Hall
Marrrone, Elrich, Garrucio - all clearly A-league quality full backs, and Garrucio could play on the wing.
Elsey - out this season with an ACL injury but has previously shown he can play well in the A-league and I believe is good enough to be a regular starter if either McGowan or La Rocca leave.
Kitto - needs to work on his decision making and crossing but has shown more than enough.
McGree and O'Doherty - young players upgraded from the youth team this season who have shown they have a future in the A-league.
Marino - does not seem to be rated by Amor so is not getting game time but in the view of a lot of fans is a promising striker who should be getting game time. Scoring a lot of goals for the youth team including a hat trick.
Holland - is not fitting into the team well, not playing at his best, not sure he will want to stay but I would keep him if he wants to stay.

Not Sure
Regan - here on an injury replacement contract, might get game time during the ACL period to prove himself but I will need to be convinced.
Mileusnic - has shown some signs he could be an A-league winger but need to see more to be sure he should stay
Cirio - not getting any younger, had two unfortunate injuries this season, needs to prove he can still play quality A-league football. I suspect there will be better options available
Henrique - has played some very good football either side of his injury but also some much quieter games. Might be a good option off the bench but hopefully we can do better as a starting winger
Mells - has had an interrupted start to the season due to illness and needs to show what he can do in the rest of season.

Guardiola is here on loan and I will be shocked if he was here beyond this season

Keep:

Galekovic- I would make Hall the number one keeper next season with Eugene as a backup/goalkeeping coach
Hall- make him number 1 keeper.
Margush- has potential
Garuccio, Elrich and Marrone are decent full backs.
McGowan- if he wants to stay
La Rocca- counts as an Aussie so we can keep him as a backup.
Isaias- Easily our best player.
Holland- In poor form at the moment but a quality player
O'Doherty- keep, has potential
McGree- same as above
Marino-Keep, needs more gametime
Henrique- has been one of our better players this season. keep as a super sub.
Elsey- a decent backup
Mells- give him one more season to prove himself

Not sure:

Kitto- Keep if he improves his crossing/decision making
Regan: keep if we can't get someone else
Cirio: Only just came back from injury
Mileusnic: haven't seen enough of him
Ochieng: haven't seen enough of him

Not good enough:
Makarounas
Warland
Guardiola- hopefully will return to Granada at the end of the season

Should retire:
Carrusca- Looks like he is passed his used by date although I would love it if he proved me wrong.

So does anyone have some information regarding what the hell is happening with Carrusca? Openly admitted his disappointment at missing the ACL, and then two hours before kick off last night he's "omitted" from the squad only to lead us out as captain come kick off time? :/

Adelaide is set to officially unveil Central Coast gloveman Paul Izzo — who was Galekovic’s understudy before gaining A-League experience with the Mariners over the past two seasons — as its new 2017/18 signing.

Galekovic will not be short of opportunities at season’s end.

A return to his home city Melbourne is on the cards — possibly Melbourne City rather than his old club, Victory.

McGree should be dropped from the national team for that dive last night, we do not need divers in Socceroos. Hope the club apologises for that disgusting display.

Your 2nd home ground is getting upgraded

Adelaide Oval $9 million upgrade to sound and light equipment for sporting events and concerts

How we foreshadowed the latest upgrade weeks ago

ADELAIDE Oval’s management will spend $9 million to upgrade its light and sound capabilities, bringing it in line with some of the world’s best stadiums.

The Oval will install 220 LED lights on the leading edge of the Eastern, Riverbank and Western stands, plus another 248 full-colour LED lights in the stands.

New ribbon boards will be installed to run 360 degrees around the Oval, as well as on levels three and four of the eastern and Riverbank stands.

Adelaide Oval SMA chairman John Olsen said the work would be completed before the day/night Ashes Test in December.

“It will also enable us to give crowds at Adelaide Oval the kind of light and sound spectacular that you see at Juventus Stadium (in Italy) or Stamford Bridge (in England),’’ he said.

An artist's impression of Adelaide Oval with the lights on after the $9 million upgrade.
“We benchmark ourselves against the leading stadia around the world and this upgrade will ensure we remain on the pace of innovation demanded by international event promoters.’’

The upgrade is being funded through a $9 million loan from the Commonwealth Bank to be repaid over eight years.

CEO Andrew Daniels said the project had the unanimous support of Cricket Australia, SACA, SANFL, the AFL and the Adelaide and Port Adelaide football clubs.

“We have worked very closely with our major partners to develop an upgrade that will enable cricket, football and other event promoters to continue to enhance the fan experience at Adelaide Oval — an experience that is already recognised as arguably the best in Australia,” he said.

“This is the biggest upgrade since the opening of the redeveloped Adelaide Oval and, when combined with initiatives such as the Commonwealth Bank RoofClimb, our LIVE on 5 Fringe venue and concerts such as Adele, it demonstrates our commitment to keeping Adelaide Oval at the forefront of global stadia.”

So what is it? A place for sport, or a place where sad 40 year old boxers can punch each other?
If they opt for sport (which they won't), it's parochial shit that no other country plays, a place for old codgers to watch a game thought up by rich mill & mine owners that's played by nearly 1% of the countries in the world, or a crappy place to watch the most popular sport in the world that's on a par with 2nd & 3rd world countries and NOT leading stadia around the world.

I get that reality usually takes a back seat when spruiking a $600+ million stadium, but crap like this makes me as angry as Koch's Chinese/AFL bullshit

Adelaide fans.. two things:
- I've updated Thread Title to remove Premiers/Champions reference, soz
- What is Riley McGree's contract status? I have it written down as ended now, yet to be re-signed, and google isn't helping me find any other answer. Is he off contract now, or does he have a year or two still on his contract that I just can't find?

- He's actually got another year. Seems like there was a ninja edit on the official announcement article sometime after it was published.

We've got a megathread on WATR that tracks our squad and contracts much like what you're trying to do. Feel free to cross reference it whenever you need to :)

United defender Dylan McGowan has been linked to a move to Portugal's Primeira Liga.

McGowan, who joined the Reds in 2014, is off-contract at the A-League club and expected to leave in the off-season.

Gabriel Batistuta could become the highest-profile coach for Adelaide United and the A-League

ADELAIDE United is closer to securing superstar Gabriel Batistuta as its new high-profile rookie coach after Reds boss Guillermo Amor made an inevitable announcement which still came as a shock to some players on Wednesday.

Amor made an emotional speech to his tight-knit playing group at a Hindmarsh Stadium meeting, telling his troops his two-year tenure as coach had come to an end on his terms.

Despite the news being a long time coming many of his squad were overcome with emotion.

One of his star players, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed, “deep down you can see he’s a good guy, he is so humble and being such a nice man made it difficult when he did tell us”.

Now Adelaide chief executive Grant Mayer has revealed capturing Batistuta, 48, is a priority given Amor’s shoes are big ones to fill.

Batistuta is intent on bringing a team of two Argentine assistant coaches with the club finalising the intricacies of the package deal.

But the Reds have compiled a list of other bosses just in case the Batistuta deal falls over.

“We can’t sit on our hands,’’ Mayer said.

“We’re chasing a suitable replacement after Guillermo Amor has all the respect and goes out on his own terms.

“With Batistuta an offer has been made but there is also a Plan A, B and C.”

Mayer revealed Adelaide is close to securing 14 players for the new season by the end of the week.

Mayer also expressed his disappointment in Tarek Elrich’s comments to Fox Sports before Adelaide hosted Jiangsu Suning on Tuesday night with the defender claiming he was worried about United’s recruiting for the new season.

“The information circulated was inaccurate,’’ Mayer said.

“We’re actively in the market to strengthen the squad for next season.”

Senegalese striker Baba Diawara, a Reds revelation signed in late January from Portugal’s Maritimo, is one of those players Adelaide is keen to recapture.

Baba is poised to extend his deal which ends this month.

Adelaide must also contemplate whether it can fit playmaker Marcelo Carrusca in its long-term plans given the off-contract Argentine will become an Australian in July while Central Coast has gone cold on signing Spaniard Sergio Cirio from the Reds.

It’s understood Carrusca has already booked the Australian citizen ceremony which gives Adelaide more options for imports given Batistuta or any other coach has room to sign three foreigners with possibly Baba and for certain Isaias on the imports roster.

Batistuta featured in the qualifying clash for the 1994 US FIFA World Cup, seeing off the Socceroos at the final hurdle after a 1-1 draw in Sydney with a 1-0 win to the Argentines. He has a very close connection with Australia. He lived in Perth from 2007-11 and was touted to be coach of the Socceroos a decade ago.

The forward is regarded as a living legendary for Argentina while Fiorentina of Italy erected a bronze statue of the goal machine in 1996.

The other potential coaches on the United shortlist are also foreign.

Adelaide is intent on sticking to employing imports since Dutchman Rini Coolen became the first non-Australian to lead the Reds in 2010 before his term ended in December 2011.

SA legend John Kosmina was then put in charge of the Reds again until he walked away in January 2013 before United appointed Spaniard and former Kitchee SC of Hong Kong coach Josep Gombau.

ADELAIDE United has beaten off overseas offers for striker Baba Diawara to secure the Senegalese marksman for a further two-years.The 29-year-old striker is expecting to leave Adelaide on Thursday night for a holiday at home before returning to pre-season training at the end of June where he will meet United’s new coach after Guillermo Amor made it clear he wasn’t going to be the boss any longer on Wednesday.
