I think that the line up has got very strong defence plus offence also the players on the bench can easily move into there positions depending on the opponent and how the game is going

That is setting the bar a bit low imo. Compare it to the Crows - whenever you email them you will get something back form someone relevant to your enquiry and it will be personal and on topic, will address what you've written with some candour (a bit too much candour in some circumstances - their membership manager has given me one or two very blunt replies with regard to the aging demographic and how they are useless at showing up to games!), and will generally ask you for further feedback. You really feel like what you've said has been taken on board by the right people at the club.

Not just a bullshit cut/paste response "thankyou for your concern but we don't really give a f*** what you think".

A professional club will not get into a slanging match, but it will make their members feel valued.

Last year I wrote to the FFA about having more Australia vs ---- in Adelaide ( although I do remember sitting 3 metres from touch @ Marden, and paying $5, when the Aussie team were in the Oceania confed. ( most eastern states supporters would kill for spectating like that! )

The response was exactly the same as AU's response to you. ( Thank you, but we don't give a shit about you supporters......)

Maybe it's an across the board response as articled by the FFA
As the crows, or more precisely aussie-rules, have no NT and they are a big fish in a puddle they nuture their fans.
Still it would be nice o be treated like someone worthwhile by AU

If the club really want to reach out to the fans why doesnt their website allow for some interaction?

Other than the weekly vote we get to have there really isnt anything there to get us involved.

Boring.

I know their website is just the standard one set up by the FFA for all HAL teams but isnt it time they tried to engage the community more - to be a bit more proactive?

Check out the Chelseafc site.

They have a link to club endirsed 'the shed' where fans can leave blogs and chat.

Totally agree BU, I find the AUFC website to be a shambles. It is hard to find what you want, it is bloody slow to load, and you have no interaction from us other than a stupid poll and the occasional "Red's Said" piece which is pretty mindless garbage. Hopefully new owners can result in real interaction with the members of the club.

And why does our team completely flake out furing matches? The Lady Red's haven't been able to keep up with any team for a whole game yet, they lack serious conditioning...

What are examples of other a-league clubs interacting via their website?
I thought it was a generic website which the FFA has control over.

Heya Solon,

Yep it is the generic garbage that FFA has handed them, you would think they would be allowed some freedom of expression though. Unless the FFA has said: Thou shalt only use the format we have provided! then the club needs to do something to allow greater interaction. Would love it if they had their own forum for example :)

GA I agree, an it does sound like somethnig the FFA would do.

As a supporter sometimes I feel they forget about us and dont realise how much we mean to the game in Australia. AU do great grass root promotions by doing camps school visits etc but as a "mature" (yes i take part in movember) supporter I would love to see more information come through about the inner workings of the club. Whats valkanis doing these days?? i have no idea.

The best example I have seen was from Wellington during the pre-season when president and coach were in the UK. While their they provided a Blog update to their supporters. I cant remeber if it was on their supporter website of the club site, but either way we have none of that. All we get back is a generic response to an email saying thankyou we are busy, appreciate your effort, now go away.

Rudan in contract extension discussions

VAL MIGLIACCIO wrote:

November 18, 2009 12:30am
CENTRAL Coast Mariners boss Lawrie McKinna has made an audacious bid to lure Mark Rudan east to Gosford but the stopper is likely to stay with Adelaide next season.

McKinna said he had written to United requesting permission to talk to in-form Rudan about his future plans.

"Mark has been playing very well but what we'll be after (eventually) is someone who's a bit younger to replace Boogs (Nigel Boogaard)," McKinna said.

Ironically, Mariners' stopper Boogaard confirmed he would be a Reds defender next year, announcing the decision the day United lost 0-2 to Brisbane Roar at home nearly two weeks ago.

He will join Adelaide once his season ends with the Mariners.

If the Mariners make the play-offs, however, Adelaide could miss out on naming Boogaard in its 30-man squad for its third AFC Champions League campaign, which kicks off in March.

The AFC calls for registrations of Champions League players during the 2009 A-League finals series, which means Boogaard may be on the outer because of FIFA's eligibility law, which forbids players to be registered with two clubs at the same time.

Rudan, however, is looking to stay at United until at least 2011 after the club offered a contract extension through his FIFA players' agent Lou Sticca last week.

Rudan confirmed Adelaide was currently locked in talks for his services beyond his contract expiry date, scheduled for the end of the A-League season.

Rudan said he did not want to comment further until contract negotiations were completed.

The well-travelled former Sydney FC championship-winning skipper did reveal, however, he had become a big fan of Adelaide's lifestyle since his move to SA in August.

"As the days go on, I'm finding more and more to like about this place," Rudan said.

"I live close to the beach. It's a great place to be."

Spot on General. All A-League websites are the same format, albeit a few minor differences. It's like opening the Yellow Pages and looking at 10 Jim's Plumbing adverts...pun intended. They're all the same mob. A-League websites have no individuality. I rarely go on the AU site. It's boring. That's how franchises work.

If Val is on the money here, it's great news.
I think Rudan's a great player, that tackle vs Sydney will live long in my mind. ( but after his first game I would have led the torchbearers ):) :)

Do the lady's train?
They have been also rans for 2 years, but I don't think we can blame Barnett ( you can't make a silk purse from a Sow's ear ). They just seem to have no speed or general ball control or the ability to run off the ball when compared to everyone, but especially Brisbane

I'm picking a GCU win (2-1). Smeltz will be on fire I suspect, whilst Adelaide will still be stuck in a backwards mental state.

AUFC v GCU
Quote:
Thursday, 19 November 2009

Mathew Leckie (left) gets a pass away as The Reds train ahead of the match with Gold Coast United.
© AUFC Adelaide United FC is confident of turning its season around and improving its goal scoring strike rate, when they host Gold Coast United at Hindmarsh Stadium tomorrow night (Friday 20 November 2009) in Round 15 of the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 Season (Kick-Off 7.30pm ACDT).

At the half way point of the season, the Reds find themselves in unfamiliar territory in eighth place on the table, and a significant reason for United’s current position is due to an indifferent run of form at home, which has seen them win just three from eight games at Hindmarsh.

But coming off a FIFA Match Day Break, The Reds have a chance to start afresh and Coach Aurelio Vidmar is optimistic that tomorrow night’s crucial home game can be the launching pad to his team’s rise up the table.

“We know we’ve been inconsistent. Are we happy about it – absolutely not. We should be filthy about it, which we are, so we just need to make sure our second half of the season is very good,” Vidmar said on the team’s analysis of the first 14 rounds.

“I certainly feel last week and especially this week that the mindset has shifted. It has been a tremendous week on the track, everyone really focused…it has been very good, very positive. They (the players) are aware of some areas that we’re failing in and also aware of some of the good things that we’re doing so it’s now about finding that balance.”

Finding the back of the net has been one of the areas of concern for The Reds this season with just 12 goals so far, but despite the continual focus on United’s lack of potency up front, Vidmar is extremely upbeat that his charges can start to click in attack.

“They (the players) know it hasn’t been good enough in front of goal…we’ve played some good football, we just haven’t finished,” Vidmar said.

“The last couple of weeks we’ve changed it up a little bit and got them a bit more refreshed and we’ve worked quite hard on finishing and making sure we’re doing that under pressure and it has worked quite well. Now it’s about making sure we translate what we’ve done at training onto the pitch.”

United has reason to believe they can convert against tomorrow night’s opponents, Gold Coast leaking six goals away to Wellington Phoenix back in Round 12. However, Vidmar knows the season’s early pace setters will be no walkover, after they returned to winning ways with an impressive 1-nil victory over an in form Sydney FC in their last outing.

“You could see that they’re starting to get back into their groove,” Vidmar said of Gold Coast United.

“Certainly the first few rounds of the season they were in awesome touch and they probably lost their way a little bit, but I still feel they have got a lot of quality and depth right across that team. They’re certainly going to be hard to beat, (but) are they unbeatable – absolutely not.”

For the first time in a long time Vidmar has a near full squad to choose from, and the Reds boss has signalled that there could be changes to the line up that went down to Brisbane Roar a fortnight ago.

Lively young attacking midfielder Mathew Leckie could return after recovering from a hamstring strain, while Paul Reid will have to wait another week before being considered for a recall, after Vidmar refused to take a risk on the central midfielder, whose season has been disrupted by injury.

Gold Coast won the inaugural battle between the Hyundai A-League’s two United clubs back in Round 3 at Hindmarsh Stadium, but The Reds will be eager to regain its reputation of being a formidable force at home, and to show the new boys who is the real United.

Kick-Off is at 7.30pm (ACDT) and tickets are available through Venue*Tix (call 8225 8888, online at www.venuetix.com.au).

Adelaide United Youth and Gold Coast Youth will play in the curtain raiser to the Hyundai A-League encounter.

interesting if it happens real speed at the front

This would be OK if Pants was dropped for Jamo. And Stephen would be ecstatic to see us put out a 3-5-2 \:d/

I am going to be in a pretty big group for tonights game, looking to be roughly where I was when I sat with Stephen. So if you are in the area say G'day!

I'm tipping us to lose.

And i'll be very, very disappointed if Jamo is not playing. He might not be running at 100%, but he is infinitely better than most in our team.
