Let's vent my frustration at the fact that the new Gold Coast team are also called United... Every time I load up my handy little RSS news reader, I see an article which mentions United in it. Thinking it's about the Reds, I click on it and it redirects me to an article about the money-infested, egotistical club that is Gold Coast. HOW BLOODY ANNOYING IS THAT???

Anyways, aside from all that, GCU really do look good on paper... but with what's-his-face talking up his team like they're the best in Asia, I wonder how much the fans would repulse when the club fails to meet expectations. :D

I would say any half-intelligent GCU fan doesn't expect to go undefeated, and thinks let the rich Big Boss in the chopper do and say what he wants to...he's only embarrassing himself, and obviously couldn't give a toss about others opinion of him anyway..

Yes mate, I thought Big Clives comments were classic and only makes the A league a more colourful and interesting place to be.

The guy just isnt hot air. He has enough power, money and connections to make things happen. Its a good thing he chose to invest his money in our league and if the cost of that is that we have to sit back and laugh at some massive calls - so be it. I for one hope GCU do well first year in - just not as well as our Reds!

Let's hope we pull off a win today over in New Zealand and see the top two spots on the table be brought down to the last game. Bloody excited folks!

OK it appears that AUFC are determined to do this the hard way. Salvaging a draw v a 10 man WP? So now we are on equal points with MV and need to win our last game.

This final run of games has got to go down in history as the "How Not To Do It Campaign".

I didn't catch the match and looking at my Foxsports Fantasy team Cassio didn't play, I saw the last 20 minutes this morning and there was a Mullen on the pitch [Didn't look like the right back Mullen]. Who was the number 26 bloke for Adelaide? There aren't two Mullens are there?

So did Cassio and right back Mullen play?

Matthew Mullen played in place of Cassio as Cassio's wife went into labor and he shot back to Adelaide for the birth.

I was told something today you guys may find interesting.

A close friend of mine who knows one of the AU defenders (who must remain nameless) says that most of the team dont rate/like Younis. They dont like to pass to him if they can help it as they know he will waste it. They reckon he looks like he doesnt have a clue what he is doing out there and they dont know why Viddie keeps picking him. Apparently Viddie says thats why hes been getting picked - due to his unpredictability.

Well, he didnt play on the weekend or even make the bench so maybe the players had a chat with Viddie?

Erdogan - the forgotten man. The last time I saw him at Hindmarsh was in front of me in the line to buy some hot chips at halftime. I'm not joking.

That's bad news, it should be irrelevant how they feel about him. He is on the park so they need to use him. I have seem him make some good passes which have been totally wasted by other players so he is not the only one. As for improving his tactical abilities - no game time means no improvement.

It was actually kinda refreshing seeing Costanzo, Valkanis and Agostino all in the starting line-up on Sunday... however, the whole team underperformed against the 10-man Wellington... disappointing.

I'm glad that Melbourne will be playing first on Friday in the final round, as this will give Viddie some incentive to figure out that an attacking formation is best for this last game of the season - and the Premiership.

IMO wellington almost deserved to win hanging on with 10 men, b ut yeah it's a big advantage for you to watch us play first.

wait if we both win by equal scores we got a better goal difference right?:-k

If you guys win by one goal more than our win (that's assuming both AU and MV win), then we will be even on goal difference, thus MV would be premiers because of the number of "goals for".

Somehow we got lucky for a change. Being able to play the last game of the final round is the best position to be in. We will know exactly what we need to win the premiership and secure the ACL spot.

I'm predicting it'll be one of the games of the season:

-Because so much will be decided on either result [CCM win- Queensland or Melbourne top or Adelaide win Phoenix May crack the top 4]
-Because it's two class teams both worthy of a A-League victory.

Finger's crossed for Wellington to pull of a draw against Melbourne. That would take the pressure off CCM to hold onto 4th and would mean we only need a draw to secure an ACL spot in 2010. Whatever the result of the weekend, be it MV, AU or a surprise upset with QR grabbing top place, it will be a well deserved top place for the victor. All 3 teams have proven to be the standouts this year.

Sadly true, AUFC has been looking very humdrum for the last 4 weeks. Actually ever since they played WP prior to the CWC they just sort of... stalled? Oh apart from the Gamba Osaka re-match, which was a great game - even if fustrating watching Travis just miss 3 times! Maybe they need a bit of ginger prior to the game

Nice to be missed, General. Have to admit I've been enjoying the waves and ham sandwiches but I also miss my internet! I'll be back this week, hopefull to disect our amazing premiership win. Please, please, please....

In fairness to KA, I didn't tell him I wouldn't blog this last week. It's just been so good to be away from my desk. Guest blogs are a decent idea though and there are any number of AU fans who would do a great job. I'll ask about it next time I have to be away. I'm off to the middle-east for work in February and I hope to be able to keep the blog going from Jerusalem, Cairo and Addis but we'll see. United helps keep me grounded while I'm in strange places.
