Midfield is what lets us down. Whenever we have a flat midfield the entire team falls in a heap (other than defence). We have missed consistancy there the whole year. I want Viddie and Stubbins to concentrate on the midfields link up play with the defence and our forward((s) is to much to ask really) and also to emphasise their role as the first line of defence and offence in the team. Too often our midfield is either doing one or the other and they need to do both.

Well, now that we have Griffiths (who is supposedly an attacking midfielder), linked up with Dodd and Pantelis, this should work in our favour. My lineup:

------- Galekovic ---------
Ang ---- Sasa --- Valkanis
---- Barbs ----- Jamo -----
Dodd - Griffiths - Pantelis
-- Agostino -- Cristiano --

It's worth a try. :p We've got Younis on the bench too so he can replace either striker in the 2nd. Innovation folks! Though, Viddie doesn't seem to be one for innovation - rather he'd stick with what's been proven to work...

Oh and I guess starting Griffiths is a long shot...

RU there was nothing wrong with your line up - it could work.

Having said that, I personally wouldnt like to see Griffiths start - just out of respect to the guys that have got us this far. It would be a bit of a slap in the face if he did.

As much as Viddie plays it safe though he has been known to throw the odd curve ball.

I'll never forget the day he benched Cristiano and started Younis - out of nowhere.

Or the day Alemao started as striker and we are all sitting there going WTF???

I have faith that whatever line up Viddie puts out there - a lot and I mean a lot of thought has gone into it.

for anyone who is going at Hindmarsh the radio said that the game may be either postponed to Sunday or kick off later Sat night if it still stinking hot

ive got a feeling that viddie used 1 up front to get us to the finals and then go 2 for the finals

I've just heard through a friend that a big black coffin has been made for the game.

It has Muscats number painted on it apparently.

Should be interesting to see it passed around the stadum if security lets it in.

I havent seen anything yet on this site re the new players we are looking at for next season.

As reported in todays Advertiser, we are talking to the following:

1. Yukata Tahara -Kyoto Sanga J League stiker - 26 YO. 32 goals in 144 matches.

2. Datsakorn Thonglao - Thai national captain - 25 YO. Playing in Vietnamese league. Had a loan spell for Kaiserslautern.

3. Adam Hughes - 26 YO. Played in Uefa champions league with Irelands Drogheda United.

4. Scott Balderson -18 YO. Currenlty playing in England for Stevenage Borough.

5. Players from Italy - Petrillo "our network is getting much bigger"

Wow - some of these guys sound iteresting.

What do you other Red supporters think?

1. 32 Goals in 144 games doesn't sound that great (obviously harder to score in the j-league than the A-league tho)
2. Sounds good. Have heard he's an attacking midfielder/free kick specialist.
3. Someone who knows someone at the club told me a few weeks ago this guy had signed a 6 week loan deal. Obviously untrue but perhaps it wasn't complete fantaasy. His profile on Drogheda Uniteds website looks reasonably good.
4. Wouldn't have a clue.
5. Depends whether it's Pirlo or someone from Serie Q

The higher ups in the Reds really have kept it quiet regarding the transfers into the club for next season. Like I mentioned earlier - now that we have cemented our ties with Chinese Super League champions, Shandong Luneng Taishan, hopefully we'll see some Chinese players coming our way.

I know it will definitely bring in the Chinese-Australian demographics into our game. :D

Hey King Billy and RedsUnited, you're twins!

I don't care who the transfer targets are as long as there's a STRIKER - or two. Which means I really, really care a lot. If we go into next year without a proper strike force I may have to cry.

Yes they do mate. I've got a feeling that the project to fatten up our anorexic strike force for next season is well under way. I'm thinking it will be a couple of top Asian guys as above with Cristiano goal poaching and Younis playing off the bench.

Seeing we made a big impact in Asia last year and our league is expanding to a more plausible number of 10, we may attract more Asian talent to our club. We need to get these guys why our reputation in Asia is still hot.

Don't think this has been posted yet - new signing R. Griffiths scored on debut, good news for you guys, is it likely he'll start in Melbourne?

Quote:
Adelaide United has jumped into second place on the National Youth League ladder after a 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory on Sunday.

NYL: Sydney in seventh heaven----

New signing Royston Griffiths scored the winner for Adelaide in the 11th minute after the Victory defence failed to deal with a cross from Michael De Bono and Griffiths was on hand to dispatch the ball from six yards.

United will meet Queensland Roar in next week's final round clash in what is effectively a preliminary final for a place in the following week's grand final against Sydney FC.

Adelaide will only require a draw against the Roar to make it to the decider.

Cassio is meant to be available next week. Once again we see why Diego has been let go. Totally have needed some form of midfield magic. Barbiero needs to be dropped for the next game and we need to promote some of the NYL team members.

I am glad that Viddie is considering dropping Fabian Barbiero as I have always thought he is not the A-league standard and he always makes so many mistakes so often.
The longer he plays in the A-league he will get worked out more and his career will be over in the A-league.
Watch this space guys
