Wonder how much is because of the new coach and how much is because of the new players. Reid and Hughes can probably be added to that list as neither really played any football last season. :-k

Most teams would become pretty hard to beat if you added Flores, Van Dijk, Reid & this season's Hughes to their starting XI

On the coaching front, I wonder how much influence Phil Stubbins has had on the team versus Coolen? It's tough to call from where i'm standing but he did say from the outset when he was in charge than he wanted a more confident and attacking United. He also made a few contradictions int he press to what Vidmar was saying (letting go of certain players last season) and he did have control of the team for most of the pre-season. Then again we were playing a little better in our ACL run, which was under Vidmars control. Like i said, it's a tough one.

No doubt our players have stepped up a gear. Hughes as a defensive midfielder is working much better. I cannot believe how long Vidmar persisted in keeping him as a creative mid for the entire season. And Cassio is back to his usual spot. I will be very interested to see how we play when Dodd returns because right now his absence is working well for us.

The main issue now is to tie down players who have their contracts expiring soon. Cassio's already free to negotiate with other clubs, which is a worry.

I think the evidence is apparant, Coolen thinks that Stubbins has done a great job and as far as he is concerned is the coach of the senior team, so the way the team is playing is a combinatyion of Stubbins' pre season and in season efforts along with Coolin's input.

I think they are making a great team, much more in tune with each other than Stubbins and Viddie were.

I think we are in a much better position to retain players with the way the teamis performing, so now may be a good time to actually be negotiating with the players.

Shouldn't be that hard really. Owusu will be gone, so there's a decent chunk of the salary cap freed up to start with. You would also hope the FFA will let us re-sign Leckie as our U/23 Marquee.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. As i alluded, Stubbins said some things in the past that indicated he and Vidmar weren't on the same page. We are currently witnessing harmony between coach and assistant coach... it's magnificent.

Agreed about Owusu and Leckie. We need to keep Barbiero, Mullen, Reid and Cassio too, if they are the bare minimums. Hughes and Shin are players I'd keep if we could still afford to keep them - though letting Shin go means we can get another foreign player in too. Monterosso and Costa haven't really had a chance with the senior team, so for them, it might be best to get a run elsewhere if they can secure a contract.

Man management has definitely improved and I feel it is this that's going to make players want to re-sign.

I really hope that we make the ACL next year as I feel that Flores wants to be a Red for a long time and ACL will just be the icing on the cake for him and Cassio as well.

The Adelaide United News page on Facebook posted a rumour that we might end up with Umbro next season as our kit supplier. Can't be worse than Reebok I guess.

Yeh but there are a lot better red kits out there than our current Reebok one. Ours look like they're made of plastic or something :?

Hopefully it goes to the club, unless we're still owned by FFA at the time, then it will go to them no matter what. By then I would assume we would have new owners.

I'm in the hills. No rain predicted. Remember the last home game when it was bucketing down before the game but held off almost all game. It's our year! :)
As for refs...it's not their year. Best we can hope for is consistency and that he lets the game run. For once.

Hey I thought I'd pop in and say that Adelaide is probably my second team (behind Heart). I really feel that they represent Australia when they play in Asia and that's awesome. Plus the support is solid. Keep up the good work folks. Just lose to Heart next time, aye? :)
