kinda football related I would describe it as a football field self-expression," Tsitsipas said. "(That) attitude doesn't really belong in tennis. It should stay in football, not in the tennis court. "I really like they come and support me because that gives me a lot of positives in my game. I don't really know why they want to go the extra mile some of the times." "(It is) a little bit (distracting)," he said. "If I would be an opponent – I mean, I do understand he doesn't understand what's happening out there and what the chants are – but I think also, from their side, they should be a little bit more respectful to the opponents. That's all, nothing else. "I mean, they can do what they're doing but probably with more respect." Tsitsipas batners with the crowd (Nine) Earlier in a light hearted exchange Tsitsipas joked with the crowd saying how overbearing the cheers could be at times. "The people that bring the energy, I'll give it to them, you should be interviewing them," Tsitsipas joked. "I cannot even hear myself. They did come up with some new chants, but please, please, next match I want even more. They're great fans. https://wwos.nine.com.au/tennis/tsitsipas-eases-into-aussie-open-2nd-round/3b7712bc-fd4f-4666-b603-b142db1cfb3e

You even had proper Cypriot Ultras supporting Baghdatis back in the day lol

Little sympathy for them. Not the sport for it and its clearly distracting to the players. Go to a South Melbourne game you tools.

Can imagine the wanker security tools though. They'd be exactly like they are at the football. 'Sit down, shut up, clap when you're supposed to.' Actually I wish they'd play a few trial tournaments where anything goes from the crowd like at the basketball. Would be a hoot.

That world cup thing they trialled this year should be given an exemption imo, half the appeal was the fans noisily supporting their country. Tennis players are babies about the whole noise thing though. If Darts players or Basketball players at the free throw line can still throw accurately with all the nonsense going on in the stands then so tennis would be fine as well.

The "quiet please" is never about the players, it's a branding exercise to show how classy and important their product is. They know what they're doing. They have marquee sponsors like Rolex and Ralph Lauren handing over the cash and the dream team list of global events cities of London, New York, Paris and Melbourne scared shitless of losing their grand slam status based around the brand they've built. No Star Wars rounds for them. Quiet, please.

Lessons to be learned for us in Australian football in finding our own base and identity and not pretending to be something we're not.

If tennis is good enough for football hooligans, then surely there is a place of football chants to join the party also.

I know most of those kids are MV fans. They were barely born the last time South was relevant. The Baghdatis supporters from the mid 2000s were mostly South fans but the current crew are a different generation and are largely alligned with MV. They wouldnt be caught dead at a South match.
