Great hope this happens. With all the talk about the 'demise' of the A-league you wouldn't expect clubs to be entertaining vision like this...

Murrarie has a Hungry Jacks right across the road.  If it ended up there I can see a perfect sponsorship opportunity...

@Paulc - If the hockey centre you mentioned is the main one on Lytton Road - it is the Qld (State) Hockey Centre so no chance of them being kicked out or moving.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Oh right, perfect. Not many drinking holes nearby though, is there? Don't really care as long as we get a stadium.

If prices aren’t inflated wouldn’t you rather drink at the ground pre game (if there was the opportunity)?
That can be revenue to your club instead of complaining there isn’t enough choices of drinking holes.

How far south it too south?

You are a Brisbane Dolphins fan now

“Soccer with porpoise”

I will have to give it some serious thought if/when the time ever comes about as to how far south is too far south.

Brisbane Dolphins?? I cannae say. But I am a Redcliffe Dolphins (Rugby League) fan and member. Have been for years.

I'll pay that one.

Dolphins are actually better for football than rugby league - no hands.

I have a feeling that Roar may not be the only tenants or the catering will be run by someone who has won the management rights for the ground.

Otherwise you are correct. I hope they set aside a clubhouse where you can also do just that

Ideally you would have 4 outside bars at the stadium. Under stands if possible.
So at ko ht you just go out and up to the stairs as you have already entered the stadium.

(or 5 if you want away bar)

It needs to be privately owned to keep cost down. 15k is sweat and play finals at the bigger stadium.

If true, it is great news and shows that the A-League isn't going anywhere soon. The Bakries aren't going to invest millions on a stadium just to see the league fold.
I am guessing there is a plan in place for revenue for the League .
"How far south" may be a concerning factor for me too..if indeed we are talking Southside.

I guess in his statement he says help from SQ. Could they be gifted the land?
reuse the scaffolding?
is it even the main field?
i think the smaller stand is in tact but bigger one would have to go.

This probs rides on SEQ getting olympics. Then athletics can be in Albion in the future.

$60 to demolish (SQ may do it themselves and sell metal if worth) and get land

yeah they need some help.

It took $15m-$20m to refurbish Dolphin and create a 12k stadium.

It’s not about spending money to knock stuff down, that’s wasted money - it’s about refurbishing and extending what’s there.

Not point refurbishing QEii

One stand can be refurbs but one would have to go because of the track. That would be the big stand on Mains Rd side

Years ago I was involved in costing various sized stadiums that where never built... but one thing stood out .... up to a certain size the cost per seat is quite small..

Say 500 seats then maybe $50.00 a seat if you use benches ...

Under 15K and a relatively bear stadium i.e. simple canteens, etc ... the cost is reasonable per seat...

Its when you wanta build over 50K the price goes off the scales per seat especially if you want multi services inside the stadium...

So a simple but effective 12 to 17 k stadium would I think be affordable.

It's definitely not Ballymore or Perry Park because trying to work with Rugby QLD or the YMCA/Strikers would be a shit fight due to politics, not to mention wealthy local residents. Albion Park is also probably unlikely because racing QLD want to develop it to get $$.

The fact that it needs support from Stadiums Queensland indicates it must be on or adjacent to one of their properties. That narrows the list down. Suncorp and the Gabba are obviously out of the picture. The other options with available land are:

Entertainment Centre at Boondal
Seems way too far away from the CBD

Sleeman Sports Complex
Too far, no transport and on a hill in bush, it would be a very odd choice, so lets rule that out.

Queensland Tennis Centre
This could be the dark horse. Closest to city, two main train lines and the state government still has a parcel of land adjacent for future expansion. It would be a new venue rather than a reconfiguration though.

QSAC
This to me doesn't seem close to the city but I do live on the Northside. However, if they do mean reconfiguration this would be the most likely option. There has been talk for many years about knocking down all but the main grandstand(s) for a more appropriate sized venue. The sheer size and age of the stadium has been enormously expensive to maintain for the government. Reconfiguring this would mean loosing the athletics track though, which would be odd given they just spent $$$ redeveloping it to international standard. There's also a connection to the new Brisbane Metro.

The other possibility is that they move the adjacent State Athletics Facility into the main stadium and build something new on that site. It does have one grandstand at the moment.

Edit: ^^^ Also, the possibility of a new athletics venue as part of the looming Olympic bid may mean the State Government needs to find a new purpose for QEII.

It obviously can’t be QSAC, it’s capacity is too big plus it cannot be converted to a rectangular stadium (something, something legacy)

I guess the tennis could work if it doesn’t flood.

Do goods trains run between Yeerongpilly and Corinda? It would seem hard to run 1 or 2 Football trains between those 2 if needed on match day.

Would be an arse in traffic though. Especially Friday night games.

Trains aren’t the answer unless you can move 5,000 people within half an hour of the game finishing.

A train station is not enough, it has to have a high frequency of service which few do off the main line.
