The govt opposition in Belarus will all catch covid if they remain on the streets without social distancing, and masks just you wait in the next three weeks. they should be instead using self imposed lockdown and just allow the govt apparatus to catch covid and then have the coup d'etat

+x+x+xif you lock down too early , herd immunity will only happen at later date. jut let it run its course and shield the vulnerable We tried to "shield" the vulnerable and they're currently dying at an alarming rate. -PB There is no evidence as of yet that herd immunity is even possible yet either. T cells not just anti bodies are the key for longer immunity

Numbers need to keep on dropping and have people not go back to the way they were acting before.

If you listen to the morons from Sky News you'd think Glady's is committing some sort of atrocity by keeping the borders closed.

Conservative radio here has been banging on for the last couple of weeks about the people that live in western Victoria but go to school or have businesses in places like Pinnaroo and Mt Gambier. Yes it's really shit for them but the alternative is letting people that are in an area that has a not insignificant amount of COVID cases into an area that no COVID cases and complete freedom of movement within the state. We're talking about only a tiny percentage of the relative population of both states.

I’m hoping, really hoping that the downward trajectory means the general public can see the results and stay disciplined for the remaining 3 weeks. Agree with the poster above about nsw. They really have done an excellent job keeping the community transmission at bay.

Try telling what you were replying to, to my wife if she was to get this. 2 years ago she spent a week and a half in ICU because she caught a cold on her asthma. We aren't taking any chances

+xtake it then no Australians stepping upto the plate for vaccine trials, but quite happy to have vaccine is successful thats the spirit australia Stage 2 trials of the UQ one are being conducted here. In stage 2 they just test whether adequate levels of antibodies are produced so it can be done here. If you wanted to do a Stage 3 trial to test whether a vaccine is effective, would you: a. Do it in Australia where there are low numbers of infected people b. Do it in a country where the there are high numbers of infection Seems pretty obvious to me.

How about the owner from Jim’s Mowing seeking compensation for loss of income during the lockdown.
Would set a very dangerous precedent in an already volatile economic situation in Victoria. If he could point me towards the money tree that it’s going to come from that would be handy to know.
Imo they shouldn’t be whinging too much considering they’d be getting the $750 p/w job keeper and in comparison to hospitality and tourism industries they are not as deeply effected.

24 COVID deaths in Victoria yesterday, 2nd deadliest day in the nation. 462 of the 549 national deaths are from Victoria.
What exactly is the opposition to extending this state of emergency?

Don't want to see mandatory face masks for 12 months which is pretty much what they are proposing If Victoria's restrictions were balanced and level headed nobody would have a problem

Don't want to see mandatory face masks for 12 months which is pretty much what they are proposing If Victoria's restrictions were balanced and level headed nobody would have a problem Giving the government the ability to extend the state of emergency doesn't necessarily mean that the (totally reasonable) facemask rules, etc. will be in place for that whole time. All the other states have the ability to declare states of emergency indefinitely apparently, and I don't see anyone protesting that there.
