If the players are stood down, are the players free to sign with other clubs?

+xIf the players are stood down, are the players free to sign with other clubs? No, because Glory still hold their player registration.
They could go through the PFA to get their registrations released but until that happens other clubs can’t touch them. Not that any one is signing players right now.

If it means stood down without pay - it could be a good move if it ensures the survival of the club.
If he had to keep paying maybe (for sure) the club would go under.
lost of clubs suspending pay (or heavily reducing) around the world at the moment

It's the PFA, they're not big on financial reality of Australian football. It's why we have so many overpaid players to begin with.

There is a former owner who won't let the club die. He doesn't like Sage.

There’s actually no need for any club to go under right now unless they have external debts from a lender that won’t negotiate.
Players Salary = $0 if they want Staff Salary = $0 if they want Rent = $0 ATO = will be patient on any outstanding debt.
The problem is not now. It’s in 6 more mths time if/when they try to restart.

That's probably right, but equally, they will not get one quarter of their annual payments, so they only need to have some fixed costs for their annual loss to blow out a tiny bit. I agree the risk becomes what's happening in 5 or 6 months, when they are gearing up for a new season, and all of a sudden, still have zero cash flow. On top of that, the inevitable recession will affect sponsorships, and it might even affect an owner's willingness to keep pouring millions into an operation which is looking at another year or two of big losses. And the straw which breaks the camel's back? If the value of licenses plummet - all of a sudden, there's no good reason to keep throwing good money in. Already, publicly reported that Macarthur are giving serious consideration into whether they proceed with the final payments for their license.

The risk is there but there’s no need to worry too much until they try and start up in the winter. Then they’ll have to sell memberships really quickly and may even have a flood of this seasons members demanding a credit for lost games.
