+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xYou are aware that there is a global pandemic that has devastated professional sport around the world, right? That might have had something to do with the loss in revenue. dont shoot the messenger - i didnt write the article But you ascribed the financial downturn entirely to the new management being crap, when it has way more to do with a once-in-a-century pandemic that is affecting sport around the globe, as well as anything else that requires large crowds for its economic lifeblood (cinema, live music, theatre, etc.). Never said it was there fault but it is there responsibility to get out of financial distress. Other codes have done it - the FA are expecting things to be worse in the following financial year. Instead of 'pro' actives step to improve the books what has the 'FA' done? Matter of fact we are on the verge of seeing Jets fold bcuz they cant find a buyer.... Ill add prior to COVID - the 'FA' couldn't find a new major sponsor once Hyundai say they wouldnt be renewing the deal.... I can keep going but i think i made my point.... You can't blame COVID for just general incompetence. I hated Frank/Gallop etc bcuz they were terrible at 'football' issues but this new FA is terrible at Football issues and business management from what ive seen... The Herald reported recently that the AFL lost $1,000,000 (yes, $1 billion) due to COVID.... that puts the FFAs position in context. Maybe AFL will hire JJ using your logic though?
not being a smart-arse, but is that $1 million or $1 billion? $1 billion is a lot of money to lose. $1 billion. Go figure hey. The A-league was nearly finished the season by the time covid hit, so I think we did ok out of it. Obviously there will be further losses this season though. JJ and the 'FA' have shown Zero leadership and Zero negotiating skills as we are 5 weeks away from the season and still dont have a major sponsor since Hyundai has abandon us This is finally dawning on more and more people. More egg pealing from face to come I’m afraid. Shouldn"t you be using one of your more idiotic multis for this kind of comment. Do the Suits at F.A know any thing about business ?? no after 15 years Hyundai walked away https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/ffa-suffers-6m-hit-after-losing-major-a-league-sponsor-hyundai-20200512-p54sa2.html#:~:text=Cash%2Dstrapped%20Football%20Federation%20Australia,delayed%20A%2DLeague%20grand%20final.Hyundai gave a bit of notice it was (pre-Covid) the 'FA' didnt find a new sponsored now COVID has hit it is unlikely they will be getting one in the up coming season. - possibly even the season after It is why no one calls it the HAL = Hyundai A-League now it is just the AL.... As ive said in past comments i hated the old FFA and how they knew f**k all about football but credit where it is due they managed to get money into the game from people who have lots of it to spend. Cant say the same for out useless 'FA' which seem more hell bent on PC bullshit

I kind of get the feeling Frank Lowy must have had a photo of the owner of Hyundai in a compromising position or something. For 15 years they renewed their sponsorship of the A-League without a peep (it was probably one of the most effective league sponsorships in the country, because of how natural it became to talk about the HAL), and then as soon as the Lowys leave they pull the plug. "Careful what you wish for" is how Stephen Lowy signed off his chairmanship of the FFA.

Or when a Lowy comes knocking, corporates listen and get involved when asked? happens everywhere in business. But the Lowy’s and their pull in the corporate/government world were at a different level.
That’s what the game has gotten rid of.

That’s what the game has gotten rid of. This. Lowry was an idiot for putting his Son in the job but no one can doubt the power of the Westfield Empire and it's value to other business. Hyundai likely kept the sponsorship becuz of warm relations with the Lowrys business interests. - 6m dollars is church money to have a good relationship with a business man like the Lowrys (back in the day). Now without that pull i think Hyundai dont see value in the sponsorship - it is a tesitment to how hopeless the FA now are they couldnt keep Hyundai involved in football or find a suitable replacement - REMEMBER Hyundai announced they were not renewing the deal prior to the pandemic. So COVID19 cant be used as an excuse for the JJ and his gimps incompetence. Im all for having football people involved but they need to have an idea about business too to keep the game float.

That’s what the game has gotten rid of. Can’t argue he didn’t have “pull” but the fact there are no sponsorship contracts today goes back to work done (or not done) 2-3 years ago.
The Lowy’s either decided they didn’t want new contracts in place for 2020 or couldn’t be bothered as they were leaving.
And their political clout had little commercial return for the code - study after study proves over the last decade that money is flowing in to AFL, NRL and even Union but not football. So if Lowy was so well connected why couldn’t he get money for football??

What's happened with the Independent aleague? Apparently the clubs were 'going to get the keys for the house' today but we haven't heard a peep from the FFA or the clubs regarding the unbundling whether its finished or not.

But The game managed to get more money from government and corporates in the 15 years the Lowy’s were involved than the 15 years prior. And most likely got more than the 15 years after their reign.
That’s really the facts that matter.

This is where people are dumb when it comes to football in Australia - i would gladly wear that egg if it meant it was for the better of football ie they got a major sponsor for the AL. However i dont think they have from what im hearing no one wants to touch the AL until things settle down Negative people are just negative - realistic people just call it as it is (however often get mistaken for being negative becuz football is in a negative place overall atm).

Is the $7.3 million dollar loss assuming no new FA sponsorship in the next 7 months? Of course FA cutting free its cash cow, the A league, will temporarily hit its bottom line since that has been their entire focus over the past 15 years. But now the FA is free for new initiatives that will bring in new income streams. The revamp of the FFA cup is a fantastic start. There is untapped marketing potential around the national teams, and a national second division if done right could provide income from commercial support.
