Apparently the rebranding wont cost a cent but the loss in TV revenue is hitting hard

https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/ffa-rebranding-to-football-australia-won-t-cost-a-cent-as-it-prepares-for-7-3m-loss

Looks like out 'FA' are worse then the old FFA boys - even though they were incompetent they at least always found idiots to bank roll there bad ideas.

But hey we are paying our Womens team the same as our Mens team so when football goes tits up we can say it had 'equality'

You are aware that there is a global pandemic that has devastated professional sport around the world, right? That might have had something to do with the loss in revenue.

But you ascribed the financial downturn entirely to the new management being crap, when it has way more to do with a once-in-a-century pandemic that is affecting sport around the globe, as well as anything else that requires large crowds for its economic lifeblood (cinema, live music, theatre, etc.).

Body of the article says 1.8m. How does that work?

Also, 1.8 or 7.3 isn’t bad considering covid.

Never said it was there fault but it is there responsibility to get out of financial distress. Other codes have done it - the FA are expecting things to be worse in the following financial year.

Instead of 'pro' actives step to improve the books what has the 'FA' done?

Matter of fact we are on the verge of seeing Jets fold bcuz they cant find a buyer....

Ill add prior to COVID - the 'FA' couldn't find a new major sponsor once Hyundai say they wouldnt be renewing the deal....

I can keep going but i think i made my point....

You can't blame COVID for just general incompetence. I hated Frank/Gallop etc bcuz they were terrible at 'football' issues but this new FA is terrible at Football issues and business management from what ive seen...

FA are said to be announcing a major sponsor soon.  JJ mentioned it.

The 2020-21 financials will have the carry over from the 2019-20 season that didn't happen until 2020-21 plus the normal 2020-21 expenses.

I think you'll find all the other codes will report similar downturns in revenue. Rugby was facing bankruptcy until the Stan deal. AFL and NRL will also see huge drops, but can withstand it better because they either have a massive war chest (AFL) or are being helped out by mates in the government (NRL). And FA will survive too. A $7.3m loss against nine figures of income is something that they can deal with. Sponsors will eventually float back and a new broadcaster will be found. And there's always player rego fees!

Many footy clubs world wide are failing, hearing that 3/4 of  English League 2, and 1/2 of League 1 clubs are close to failure. Also, some English Championship clubs are very stressed also.

I sense some on here want Football and the Aleague to fail irrespective.

I'm assuming you missed 3 zeroes.

Also shows how relatively well we have fared.

Or maybe we only had a few rounds left so most of last seasons tv deals instalments had already come in....where as AFL/NRL COVID lock down happened after round 1?

As the article states the 'FA' expect losses to be a lot worse in the next FY. - becuz the TV deal will be significantly less and we are still paying the Socceroos/matildas stupid money on top of extraordinary running costs.

AFL lost a lot of money but it will be ok - there is a confidence once the crowds are allowed to return they will.

If anything long term this will strengthen AFL becuz the players took a massive pack cut and the salary cap has been cut down by 30%~ Unlike Football players have no where else to go in AFL (which make the sport a bit of a joke but it is too there advantage). Thus AFL has the same quality on show (ie same players) but for a much lower running cost.... - opposed to the AL which has lost almost all the top international players and is even losing domestic players to India

In addition, they didnt lose 1bn as they managed to finish the season they would of lost a Bn if the season was called off they took about 100-150m hit in foxtel money and 20-30m in FTA money from 7. The other major losses in revenue was from match day going fans - but as I said above the players took a massive cut and a back room staff took a big hair cut.

Overall the AFL actually handled this really well the NRL not as good but it looks like the this Stan Sports might come to there rescue

They lost under 100 million which is still a fair whack, but I think nearly all sporting leagues around the world will lose big amounts. The A-league was nearly finished the season by the time covid hit, so I think we did ok out of it. Obviously there will be further losses this season though.

Realistically they probably lost around 200m it would of cost them a fair bit to put the players and there families into 5 star resort hubs. - however that might of been the clubs ?

But the pay cut the players/staff took was massive - in the end the players have no 'bargaining' power becuz AFL is confided to Australia and mostly just Victoria. - the VFL players took it even worse and what ever support the AFL did for local and country footy will hurt the players in the long term but the current bunch wouldn't care about that.

As much as Gillon Mclachlan is a c**t - he is a master negotiator and understands his product and how to negotiate the best for it, which in this case ultimatelt threw the backroom staff, coaches and players under the bus. JJ and the 'FA' have shown Zero leadership and Zero negotiating skills as we are 5 weeks away from the season and still dont have a major sponsor since Hyundai has abandon us
