Bouzanis playing at Wembley in Papa John's Trophy final. 1:1 currently. He conceded a very nice shot. Great occasion for him and his club Sutton.

Heartbreaking for Sutton. Winning until the 95th minute for Rotherham to equalise now it's 4:2 with 7min left in ET.

+x+x+xLommel won 2-1 overnight in the Belgian second division. Arzani not even making the match day squad for them these days. What a disaster of a career he's had. He was literally our next golden boy back in 2018 - he was great in the friendlies leading up to the world cup & was pretty good in the tournament. From there it's just turned to shit for him. Very unlucky for both himself & the NT. I think he needs to come home & reboot his career in the a league I really dont think players should leave before around 50 games That's my thought too if your 17-18 you need 50ish games, if your 22-23 you need to be dominating the league. Excited to see where Rawlins ends up in Holland by 20 he could be a real prospect.

+x+xOnce again Gersbach has fallen out of favour at his club. Time for him to reboot his career back in Australia too. Had so much potential. He probably just isnt very good. Tearing it up in the A league unfortunately doenst count for much. If you cant compete in a weak European league you probably just lack talent. I predict he will retire before he comes to A league. I reckon he will give it all away around 25-26

His form dipped, he fell out of favour and he never returned could be depression for all we know. Don't underestimate the difficulty of living overseas. Not everyone can do it and perform at their best

Not everyone can do it and perform at their best Absolut. Mental health is super important for all elite athletes. In fact despite the AL being a lower standard than many Euro leagues, it shouldn’t surprise anyone when ‘failed in Europe’ Aussies return to AL and perform much better cos the difficulties of living abroad gets removed cos players then have more support from family and friends again. Younger Aussies in Europe like Gersbach might be single and feel very unsupported and isolated which affects his performances

He's been overseas for six years now so if he was homesick and lonely he'd have returned home by now. The most likely explanation is he's just isn't very good and probably just another over hyped A league player. It's not anything to be ashamed about, there have been many many many before him. In fact the ratio of over hyped youngsters to actual good players is about 99:1

Only a small fraction of people don't drop in performance at least some amount when working overseas at an elite competitive job

Disagree. Way more variables than that. You can be homesick for ages and then things can fall into place. It’s way more complex than “you either adjust or you don’t”
However, I agree with you and BalinTrev on the importance of mental health; especially awareness, treatment and management of it.

Dougall and JRB starting. Great to see Jack Iredale back starting after a long layoff. Souttar is doing individual training now.

With Souttar injured, JRB should really be 3rd in line behind Sains and Degenek. I can’t think of any other CB I’d put ahead of JRB in that 3rd spot.

I must admit I haven't seen much of JRB, but Circati is even now definitely a Serie B standard defender and in my opinion is likely to be a regular in Serie A in a couple of years.

They left the US as 16 year olds and went into the academy. Our players leave when they're 19-20, too old to be a prospect and not old/experienced enough to be first team player i.e. completely fucking useless.

I don’t think there is a secret formula to having a player become star player. Mooy was probably the last successful player and he was almost as old as me lol

6.8 on futmob starting Serie B at 18 is impressive. If karacic is getting picked, this guy should be too. Has their been a Serie B starter in the last 20 years who didn’t get regular Socceroos squad selection?
