Hope you are all healthy and happy in these interesting times!! Now seems like an opportune time to reflect on the past six months for our Aussies Abroad. Happy reading. Domestic club football: United Kingdom - Mat Ryan found himself out of favour at Brighton (surprisingly), so quickly found a loan deal to Arsenal for the remainder of the season. He is yet to debut but has made the bench immediately. Exciting news with Caleb Watts celebrating his 19th birthday with a premier league debut for Southampton. Around 10 of our females are playing in the Women’s Super League in England. Sam Kerr (Chelsea) has now scored nine league goals for the campaign, with Caitlin Foord (Arsenal) on six. Most minutes for an Aussie outfielder, Emily van Egmond (West Ham), surpassed however by keeper Mackenzie Arnold (West Ham) who has played every minute of the league campaign. The likes of Raso (Everton) and Kennedy (Tottenham) start each game. In the Championship, the highlight has been the emergence of Harry Souttar. The towering centre-back has now amassed 21 starts, only missing a few games due to a COVID related issue. League One has been a happier hunting ground for the Aussies. Players such as Bailey Wright (Sunderland), Callum Elder (Hull City) and Cameron Burgess (Accrington Stanley) have been racking up the minutes in defence, whilst Ryan Edwards (Burton Albion) and Ryan Williams (Portsmouth) feature most weeks. A few injury concerns have meant interrupted seasons for Jordan Lyden (Swindon Town) and Massimo Luongo (Sheffield Wednesday). Despite constant transfer rumours, Tom Rogic remains at Celtic. He has made 14 appearances (6 starts), been an unused sub. 13 times, and yet to score in the league. On the flip side, we now have Socceroos Martin Boyle and Jackson Irvine starting at Hibs. Boyle started the season well but has been a little cold recently, enter Irvine, who fed him a beautiful through ball last weekend resulting in a goal. Continental Europe - The females are in most of the bigger leagues in Europe with Ellie Carpenter leading the way. She is having a standout season at Lyon (France) and was recently crowned the best female player in Asia. Seventeen year old Mary Fowler is having an impact at Montpellier having now made 13 appearances, including 7 starts. Veteran midfielder Aivi Luik has appeared in 17 of 18 league games for Sevilla. After transferring from the US college system, Beattie Goad has played every minute of the Bundesliga campaign for Meppen. Ajdin Rustic has not yet taken the Bundesliga by storm, but feels like that is only a matter of time after starting to see more minutes in recent weeks. Matt Leckie continues to toil away at Hertha Berlin. He has made 10 league appearances but only 1 start. James Holland continues to have a second-coming at LASK, now having more impact on the scoreboard. Danny Vukovic (Genk) has come back strongly from his injury layoff and Trent Sainsbury (Kortrijk) is finally playing good minutes at club level again. A bright note in Belgium has been the emergence of Panos Armenakas at Zulte Waragem. Still early days, but minutes, starts and goals are certainly a promising start. Speaking of promising, Deni Juric is making the most of his opportunities in the Croatian top flight, having now scored six league goals for Sibenik. James Jeggo made an interesting decision to move to Aris, Greece. That is now looking to be a good decision with his impact having been significant. Although not Serie A, we have a couple of Aussies doing well in Italy. Nick Pennington has been very solid at Olbia, whilst Gabriel Cleur is getting minutes for Virtus Entella. Worth watching right back Fran Karacic, who has recently moved to Brescia (Serie B). Anthony Carter (Academico Viseu) continues to progress in the 2nd tier of Portugal football, having made 15 appearances this season. Aziz Behich is also getting regular game time after transferring to Kayserispor in Turkey. Joey Gibbs had an amazing season in Iceland, winning the golden boot and helping Keflavik gain promotion to the top flight. Asia and the Middle East - Nikita Rukavytsya (Maccabi Haifa) has picked up where he left off last season. He won the golden boot with 22 goals last season, and currently sits on 16 goals, in only 17 appearances, this season. Many of the Asian club competitions are between seasons, but worth mentioning the outstanding season of Mitch Langerak in goals at Nagoya Grampus, managing to set the record for the most clean sheets in a J.League season. The Indian Super League is still early in the season, but around 10 Aussies playing regularly there now. At the risk of offending, we have several “veterans” featuring prominently in Saudi Arabia (Brad Jones, Rhys Williams, Craig Goodwin and Dimi Petratos) and the same in Qatar (Shane Lowry and Isaias) Americas and Africa - Brad Smith returned to the Seattle Sounders, who came close, but could not win the league in successive seasons. Brad made 9 appearances, but only one start, so probably a little disappointed with that output. Andy Rose made 10 starts for Vancouver Whitecaps. Youth football - plenty going on in England with the standouts probably being Cam Peupion (Brighton), Con Ouzounidis (Everton), Alex Robertson (Manchester City) and Zak Gilsenan (Blackburn). Liga Revelacao (U23) is still going in Portugal with Ryan Teague and Dylan Collard playing each game. Unfortunately youth football in Spain, Portugal, Netherlands and Italy is almost non-existent, which impacts a lot of young Aussie footballers. National:Nothing going on for our national teams, but huge anticipation around the Olympics and the World Cup qualifiers. Been along time between games and many new names have put themselves into the frame, selection will be intriguing. Fingers crossed these games are played. Coaches:Ange Postecoglou would have been disappointed with title defence of his Yokohama F-Marinos, finishing ninth. Unfortunately Peter Cklamovski did not see out the season at Shimizu S-Pulse. Similar story for Kevin Muscat, being removed from duties at Sint-Truiden. Tanya Oxtoby (Bristol City) is on extended maternity leave, which means Joe Movntemurro is left flying the Aussie flag in the WSL. His Arsenal team are currently fourth, with a mountain to climb. Recent losses have seen Roberto Venturato’s Cittadella slip out of the automate promotion places in Serie B. Transfers:Changes/additions to the Aussies Abroad database: ARZANI, Daniel (4 Jan 1999) - loan to AGF, Denmark CAHILL, Matt (6 Aug 2000) - loan to Southern District, Hong Kong CALDERBANK-PARK, Kai (16 Jan 2001) - transferred to Connah’s Quay, Wales CHOI, Danny (6 Dec 1994) - loan to Real SC, Portugal CREEVEY, Maxx (28 Apr 1995) - loan return to Buriram United, Thailand CUELHO, Corey (27 Apr 2000) - transferred to ENAD, Cyprus CUMMINGS, Jason (1 Aug 1995) - transferred to Dundee, Scotland DEL GROSSO, Alberto (5 Apr 2001) - loan to USD Lavello, Italy DELBRIDGE, Harrison (15 Mar 1992) - transferred to Incheon United, Korea DUKE, Mitch (18 Jan 1991) - loan to Western Sydney Wanderers GROMMEN, Josh (10 Jul 1996) - transferred to Sukhothai, Thailand HERD, Chris (4 Apr 1989) - transferred to Terengganu, Malaysia INMAN, Brad (10 Dec 1991) - loan to Odisha, India IRVINE, Jackson (7 Mar 1993) - transferred to Hibernian, Scotland KARACIC, Fran (5 Dec 1996) - transferred to Brescia, Italy LOGARZO, Chloe (22 Dec 1994) - transferred to Kansas City, USA MARVEGGIO, Andrew (22 Apr 1992) - transferred to OFK Petrovac, Montenegro OGLE, Reagan (29 Mar 1999) - loan return to Accrington Stanley, England PRSO, Luka (22 Jan 2001) - loan to Newcastle Jets RIZZO, Ricardo (29 Aug 2000) - transferred to Cerro, Uruguay ROWLEY, David (6 Feb 1990) - transferred to Penang FA, Malaysia RYAN, Mat (8 Apr 1992) - loan to Arsenal, England SHALAMANOV-TRENOV, Iliya (7 Aug 2002) - loan return to CSKA Sofia, Bulgaria SMITH, Bradie (2 Jan 1998) - transferred to Armagh, Bangladesh WONG, Daniel (17 Nov 1997) - loan return to Beijing Renhe, China Removals from the Aussies Abroad database: HUGHES, Laura (Throtter Reykjavik) - transferred to Canberra United MAHAZI, Rashid (Incheon United) - retired MILLAR, Matthew (Shrewsbury) - loan return to Newcastle Jets PETERSON, Ryan (FC Motown) - whereabouts unknown STOLLERY, Curtis (Erie Commodores) - returned to Australia TUCKER, Hayden (Little Rock Rangers SC) - returned to Australia Free agents: Zac Anderson Ante Bakmaz, Apo Giannou, Peter Makrillos, Aryn Williams

Solid effort mate, but forgot to mention Riley McGree going to Birmingham in the Championship & spelt our current best player's name wrong - Hrustic mate, Hrustic. Just jokes, interesting to have the year in review & good to see the Matilda's stats & info, as they get forgotten about usually

Really not Southampton's night at all, after their 2nd minute red card for a 19 year old defender on debut and going into HT down 4-0, they just thought they got a consolation goal only for VAR to take a fucking age to take it off them for offside. Really didn't look like it was, either. Hopefully Watts gets a run, there's only one fully senior outfield player on their bench.

Acrington Stanley looking good this season. in 7th with 3 games in hand on first. If they win them all it would put them a point ahead of first. Would be good if they can get promoted. Burgess always seemed a handy player in his youth.
