Just realised Burgess is out of contract in the summer but had a 1 year extension option.

Oxford beat Peterborough to play Bolton in the playoff final.

Garang Kuol will be in Newcastle United's squad for Global Football Week Melbourne.

Minimal steps in the right direction that he's included. Maybe just drop him off at City for a season? Even if it was lower league Eredivisie, I can't help but think that a League 2 loan would be smart given the abundance of football and the chance to really dust things off. Not to mention being able to play a full 90min.

Kuol is too slight and doesn't do enough defending to get any go in league 2.

Exactly. I think those mindsets can be trained into him there. There are plenty of lightweight players in League 2 nowadays who are loaned from the big clubs and they come back having learned a lot. Also his agility should provide opportunities against less mobile defences.

League 2?!? Have you ever watched a league 2 game? It is below A league level!! An upper league 1 team would be OK. Otherwise Eredivisie again but a team that uses a 433

I've watched plenty of League 2 yet the issue is Garang needs football and is in a hole. He's not one to simply claim a spot at a decent level currently. League 1 has become very challenging too but he'd be fine there. He needs a big season with plenty of games rather than being some squad filler.

Is it though? Our average players are probably league 2 level, and our best are league 1 and championship quality. Jay Rich Baghelou could probably start in most a league teams for example. I’m watching the Crewe-Doncaster game right now and honestly seems comparable to A-league

So...you're comparing someone whose..
- played in a world cup knockout game (youngest since pele),
- been named A league team of the season
- purchased for a large sum by one of the bigger teams premier league teams
- been named in an a league all stars game and dominated as a teenager vs barcelona

... to Jay Rich Baghelou.

Based on current ability there isn't really that much difference. He was bought based off his potential.

You clearly living in the past without follow his progression.

If you watch him at Heart. The coach gave him a lot of opportunities at the start but he couldn't defend and offensively no end product. He didn't show any potential at SPL level and that's why they let him go.

I didn't watch him at Volandam in Eredivisie but I assume the same story. He got the opportunities at the start but then didn't have any impact. Later he didn't have 1 minute on the pitch.

If you watch the U23 Asian cup a few weeks ago. He came on as a super sub and didn't do shit. No impact whatsoever. Moreover he couldn't dribble and lost possession. He definitely went backwards and need to be back to A league asap.

Garang is currently a beggar and beggars can't choose. A League isn't right for him as there is still too little football. EFL tier 3 and 4 will have 46 league games. 2 cups and a lot of clubs play in their county cup plus the EFL Trophy with a group stage. I think Carlisle under Paul Simpson, who is excellent with young players, would be a suitable place for the next year. It's not far from Newcastle. Volendam started well and then it become the weirdest ad hoc place and the formation changed.

I think its a bit more complex than that. For hearts he got 1 start at cam which exposed his lack of defence. He missed an easy goal and but nearly got a beautiful assist but shankland missed an open goal

He was then in the wilderness until he got some subs and he scored agsinst rangers being subbed on in his preferred position. So not heaps of chances. Less than 200 minutes

Then at volendam the technical director literally had a game plan built around maxing his strengths and hiding his weaknesses while working on his weaknesses in training. It was a dream gig and he was getting a run starts in the eredivisie as the first 18 year old aussie since brett holman. He scored goal of the month got an assist and had a fan make a compilation video of him (ibwatched his every match)

Then they had some political turmoil and the technical director coach and most of the training staff resigned in protest. The new coach parked the bus and plays 5 3 2 formation with 3 defensive mids, an attacking mid and a striker. Aka no wingers and defensive abilities being the focus which is his weakness. Remarkably he still got some sub appearances but looked lost in the new formation and got frozen out

The points per game volendam got when he started was much higher than we he didnt, the only better point spread we have is mcgree. The new coach is hopeless

In the recent waf i thought he was still our best attacker but i agree he was poor in his sub appearances in the olyroos asian cup campaign

Anyway the jury is still out. He could do a lot worse than a season long loan to an a league side playing in asia this year. League 1, league 2 or the championshjp would be good too. Really unlucky the dream gig didnt work out but thats life

I'd rather see him back to A league than playing in English Tier 2 or 3.  Be careful about being in lower league you will never be back to  higher level again.  Most likely he will stay there and never be back up.

Being back to A league like Arzani to get his confidence back is what he should do at least he will be on the radar of Arnie. He is already 20-21 at this age of footballers now aren't that young anymore.

Swiss/Austrian/Belgium are other options but since he failed in SPL and Eredivisie it won't be easy to find any interests other than A league clubs.

He's only 19 & still has potential to play at a very high level. He didn't fail at Hearts by the way, the Manager at the time was a moron - he started him at CDM for fuck sake - then when that didn't work, he got limited chances for the rest of his time there.

That's right. Why do our players get put in utter piss take positions? Maclaren at Darmstadt was told by Frings to be a 10 and Maclaren was just dumbfounded. I can't remember who else anymore but players being put out wide or on the wrong foot or being signed with club media hype only to hardly see any time (Mabil at Cadiz).

Maclaren at 10 is like playing nisbet at cb. Maclaren never touches the ball unless its a shot or a press

It was quite detailed in a podcast. I get it in theory. Frings wanted a big target man to head and flick it to Maclaren in the box so he could hit it. The issue was the rest of the team dribbled and Maclaren was supposed to play it as a 10. He said he can't do that as he's a striker and Frings said 'sure you can' Frings was fired about 12 weeks later.

Decent results for Wiesbaden with Kaiserslautern and Rostock losing. Rostock a point behind in 17th and hosting Paderborn on the final day. Kaiserslautern are 4 point ahead which makes tomorrow's away game to Braunschweig something of a final. A win will see them avoid going down automatically and jumping Braunschweig on GD. A loss removes any chance of safety in the season proper while a draw doesn't exactly help.

Something I overlooked was a draw is enough for Kiel. It's 1:1 with 10 left so they'll just want to close out the game. Düsseldorf have nothing to lose so they're going to go all out to win.

St Pauli should be  fine against lowly Osnabrück tomorrow. Düsseldorf nearly take the lead.

Kiel are up. St Pauli should follow suit. Köln essentially down. The small clubs keep going up while the big ones go down.
