And indians love football.

https://twitter.com/IndSuperLeague/status/1584878066182295552?cxt=HHwWgMDUsYiNz_4rAAAA

Only slightly more than a WU crowd at an IPL game ........ not much love in India these days.

Seriously?

you have a problem with a 2pm Saturday as a kickoff time???

It's the typical start time for almost every football league around the world.

I unfortunately cannot attend the game this Saturday however, I will attend a game at any time provided I am not at work.

I said, early Saturday afternoon in Brisbane has been shown as the worst time for crowds in Brisbane traditionally. I'm not a demographer I can't give you the reasons but I'd imagine junior sport and Saturday is a working day for many people. Saturday nights are traditionally Brisbane's strongest crowds which points to the fact people want to attend but 2pm on a Saturday afternoon while convenient for some is absolutely not for many.

On top of that for this game you have the absolute cluster the club has been through the last couple of weeks however some of that may be offset by non regulars wanting to see Nani. Overall the crowd will be lower than the first two games without a doubt.

First two games were at Lang Park. This is at Redcliffe. It is also the dumbest kickoff time ever heard of. 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. Saturday afternoon games are traditionally horrible drawing for Brisbane and this is even earlier. Brisbane's worst crowd of all time was when they scheduled a 3pm kickoff v Mariners many years ago. Think it was around 4.5k at Lang Park and this was while crowds were at a decent level.
Nani will be the only draw card for non regulars.

FTB, I am interested in your thinking for the Roar home game.  They have had 8,500 and 7,900 at home so far.  Why would a game against Victory draw significantly less than both of those?

The Bulls have given a discount to the Sydney fans, $50 a ticket previously met with protests at the ground from the few Sydney fans who paid that rip off. I have seen a bit on line where Sydney members are encouraging others to turn up so it will be interesting to see whether that has an impact on the crowd.

I have a platinum membership in Adelaide.
I love my seats so much and will never give them up.

BUT I probably only go to 70% of the games each season.

Sometimes there's a clash, sometimes it's the weather, sometimes I'm hungover, sometimes I just want to chill with my family and not spend two hours being fucked off with a game I have no control over aha

Exactly. I've been a MV member for over a decade and I don't think there has been a single season in which I attended every game. There has definitely been times in which my couch was just more appealing on the day. Also, not sure if it's just me, but the Melbourne derby doesn't really excite me all that much any more. Just another game to me. I much prefer the Big Blue or the MV/AU games. Those games feel like more organic rivalries compared to the Melbourne derbies.

It just doesn't make sense to me that large numbers of people would go to the expense of buying a season ticket and then,
a) not put a circle around the derby date
or
b) wake up 12 hours before kick off, see a spot of rain outside and decide there's no point going, regardless of what the weather is going to be like when the game is actually on.

membership has its privliges spot on someguy - myself and daughter as members, I didn't go to 1 game last season and other ones might I add now and then nor to date, she has gone to 5 odd last season plus week before AU game, goes with a friend using my tag.
Were contributing to the cause 1982 being there or not.
As mentioned by above, sometimes I just couldn't be bothered, wife has made other plans I go there/the clash, I've worked all day couldn't be bothered lie on the couch grab remote watch from koff, next corcia's game piss's me off - I'm amped to go in the hope of countless shots, open fast play yaddayadda but alas its been a possession contest and passing back so remote is handy can change channel lol.....

India has a long, proud footballing history.
They have actually won the football gold medal at the Asian games twice, and in 1964 were runners up in the Asian Cup proper.
They played in their first tournament as an independent nation in 1948, in the Summer Olympics of that year, using mainly barefooted players, they lost 2-1 to France.

Those were India's glory years as a footballing nation.

In recent decades they have been absolutely scheissenhausen.

Still far better numbers than Wanderers got when they got they're new ground, which is arguably better in terms of size for an a league team.

Still the myth continues that Wanderera are the bigger club

I am not denying any of that though. I am saying that first impressions count (being at the new SFS) and getting results contributes significantly to that.

The weather turned out to be ok, but the forecast all day was 90% chance of heavy thunderstorms at 8pm. There was a great interview with Aloisi where there was a lightning strike during the interview and it must have been close because both of them ducked for cover. Regardless of the stadium cover, there will always be people that stay home if they think it's gonna rain.
As for season seat holders not going, that's not as uncommon as you would imagine. Especially in the more expensive seats. For those people it's not about the money, they just like to have the convenience of sitting in a good seat when they do decide to go.

West Adelaide Hellas - 25 Oct 2022 4:44 PM
Long time reader first time poster.

Lots of good energy around the a-league this season - especially in Adelaide. Expecting some decent crowd numbers this season with the ground redevelopment and end of restrictions. A number of people I know are buying memberships/ looking to attend games again so fingers crossed for some growth!

Welcome WAH.

That sounds good.  We need the energy going up everywhere so that we recover the losses over the covid years.

The weather was OK in Melbourne on Saturday, wasn't it? Certainly nothing like Sydney in Round 1. And AAMI is one of the few grounds in the country that has decent roof cover anyway.

There were 7,000 empty seats at the ground. Let's say Victory have 20,000 season-ticket holders. That means that ca. 35%, didn't go to the derby. I can understand a small percentage might have unavoidable clashes or what not, but not 35%. Why would anybody shell out several hundred dollars for a season ticket, and then couldn't be arsed going to the most important match of the season. Who are these people? And how are we supposed to have packed stadiums when even a sell-out means thousands of empty seats? It boggles the mind.

It's always going to be the case for a regular season game. Unlike a final, you have members with reserved seats that may not show up. You have corporate boxes that have been sold to sponsors/partners that may not get filled. Unfortunately, you also have the 'looks like it's gonna rain' people who would rather lose their $30+ ticket price than risk getting a few raindrops in their hair.

I caught the second half of the Victory game and thought the crowd, noise and atmosphere was pretty bloody good. Apart from the broken chairs and flares obviously but I suppose you guys dont have to worry about being docked points or anything that may cause your club to be relegated so the little ratbags can get away with a bit more than NPL crowds can.... BTW I thought I heard a really old Panathinaikos FC chant , I couldn't catch the words but surely they don't sing in Greek at Victory do they? Whats next, "Hellas, Hellas" hahahahahah

The WU crowd reported as 2400 was hilarious as well. hahahahahah a mates brother in law went and tells me that even if you counted everyone 3 times you would still fall short of a thousand... what a shambles.   Apparently 3/4 of the "catchment corridor of Tarneit" was packing out the MCG to watch India v Pakistan on the weekend, maybe they don't like the Green machine? hahahaha

Even 13-14k sound pretty good at AAMI. There is also a noticeably higher number of MC fans that seem to only show up for the derbies. Not taking a shot at them, if you are only going to attend a couple of games a season, might as well make them derbies.

Apparently 3/4 of the "catchment corridor of Tarneit" was packing out the MCG to watch India v Pakistan on the weekend, maybe they don't like the Green machine? hahahaha

2,400 on Friday night is crazy poor. This mini stadium really needs to be up and running ASAP. a bit of progress seems to have been made, which is promising, but we can’t have them continuing to be playing out of AAMI Park.

Bit disappointed with the derby crowd. Was 4-5,000 short of what I expected. No excuses for Victory members not to show up. We can’t put up the sold out sign then have about 17% not turn up. We need to do better.

That's actually impressive for Sydney FC.
I assume it's just still people wanting to see the new stadium?
Can they keep this up?
They have had very entertaining games even if the scores haven;t gone their way

I think it's definitely the new stadium, but for a lot of people getting to Jubilee was a bit of a pain and it had little to no covered seating so you sat in the rain all game, which in Sydney lately was just about every game last season.
