For the life of me i don’t understand how people can keep using TV ratings as a realistic metric. Who the hell watches FTA anymore? 90%+ of the stuff I watch is streaming. ALM was the highest ranked “TV Show” on Paramount+ in 2021. That’s the metric we should be measuring. CH10 show new episodes of their main staple American cop/legal dramas (NCIS, FBI, Bull, etc) on Paramount+ before they are shown on CH10. So being number 1 is a decent outcome.

42k a new record low for an A-League on FTA. There was a time, about six years ago, that if we got a rating of 42k on Fox, we'd think, geez, that's pretty poor. Of course, a few years after that, the threshold had halved, we were regularly rating around the 18k mark before Fox ditched us. How low is 42k? Well, considering it's the main channel of a commercial FTA in prime time, it's extremely low. I would go as far as to say that for a whole week of viewing, no other show on prime time on a main commercial FTA station would rate that low.
The same night, on Fox (available to one quarter of all Australian households), we see: Death in Paradise 44k Selling Houses Australia 41k AFLW 32k
On the multis: Hey Duggee 89k Peppa Pig 84k
If the main commercial FTA is only getting 42k, the one guarantee I can give is that the number watching on Paramount is a fraction of that.

FTA ratings are a relevant metric because they are the mainstay indicator of how many eyeballs a particular show is getting. And how many eyeballs determine the value of that show to advertisers.
42k doesn’t mean exactly 42,000 people watched the match nationally. But it is a reliable *indication* of viewership, particularly when every other sport and tv show is subject to the same system.
The problem with this forum is that many one-eyed AL supporters insist on pretending the ratings are actually much better than they are. They insist that there is a secret, unknown, uncounted audience out there that is as passionate as themselves…if only Oztam could find them and include them in the count.
It’s silly.
The interest in the AL just isn’t there anymore. There was a flicker for a while, but it faded away. I don’t know what the fix is, but 42k is diabolical for a professional sporting competition on a main FTA Channel.

I keep seeing that line trotted out. It’s more likely an indicator that the subscriber base for PP is very small. It is the sixth or seventh platform to be introduced at a time when people surveyed are saying they’re cutting back on streaming costs.
It’s likely that most of the subscribers to PP are football fans, but being number 1 on that platform doesn’t tell us anything about overall numbers. TV ratings give us some indication of numbers, and there is very little interest.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x[quote]Aus Open Day 4 - 940,000 viewers Sydney Sixers v Perth Scorchers - 334,000 viewers Sydney FC v Perth Glory - 45,000 viewers Very grim The reporting makes it grim reading indeed ( https://www.mediaweek.com.au/weekend-tv-ratings-saturday-january-22-2022/). Not surprised given how uninspired the game was. Total ratings so far (updating CityHarrison's post): 20/11: 146K (Sydney derby) 27/11: 88K 4/12: 85K (metro) 11/12: 89K (metro) 18/12: 63K (metro) 26/12: 57K (Melbourne derby) 8/1: 84K (metro) 15/1: 56K [Adelaide v City, Sydney vs Brisbane] 22/1: 45K [Sydney vs Perth] Numbers are trending down, hopefully like Omicron cases.... can't wait for those dounut days to come again. Unless it is contractually obliged I can't see these games being allowed to be broadcast on the main channel if these kind of numbers continue... It's almost inconceivable that TEN continues to broadcast AL games on its main channel when its getting 45k viewers nationally. It could show re-runs of Masterchef 2005 and do better than that. Given that most A-League supporters will probably have P+ subscriptions, and the league doesn't seem to have much traction outside of its core support right now, I wonder how much this is undermining the ratings for the FTA broadcast. I wouldn't be so sure about that. There are approximately 95k-115k a-league members at the moment. Even if every one of them had a P+ subscription, it's still a small number. Non-members represent a bigger chunk of the A-League supporter pie, however I just don't think large numbers of them would pay full price for a P+ subscription just for the A-League. All that is not helped by the fact that they don't have apps available for major Smart TV brands yet. The average Joes & Janes out there aren't going to jump through hoops and buy a Chromecast, AppleTV or Kodi box just to watch the A-League on their TV. Paramount+ does have SmartTV apps available in the USA, I don't understand why it would be so difficult to make them available in other regions. I'd be interested to see how many people have signed up for a P+ free trial only to dump it because there wasn't a SmartTV app available for their TV. My mum paid for a year subs with her membership but hasn't bothered to watch any because they don't have tv app for LG. I told her I'd buy her a chromecast etc but she can't be bothered with a 3rd remote etc etc So now someone that watched 1-3 games a week (united for sure and others when bored) hasn't watched one all year except at my house once

TV doesn't have the app. Now he'll sometimes watch the FTA game, but says a chromecast is just one more device he doesn't need. I also have a few mates that would rather just watch on their phone/ipad/laptop than mess around with a chromecast. Those mates say they only really watch their team play now and don't bother watching a neutral game.

It's bizarre and I can only speculate barely anybody outside A-League members have signed up for the service so they aren't sure what they can be bothered paying someone to do yet.
Speaking of streaming, why is it I couldn't see a replay or highlights of the Socceroos on 10Play when I got up this morning but the old A-League app had them up there?

What about the 100-200 k figures the Matildas got, or the 4 to5 million world cup finals viewers in this country? Its JUST the franchise plastic ute league on FTA that is f@cked because no one even knows it is on..... "highest ranked TV show on Paramount"? Hahahahahahah that's " amazing" The 14 subscribers they have are all franchise customers noone else subscribed to it for anything else.... hahahahahahah

I'm currently subscribing to Paramount+, and to date, the A-League is the only thing I've watched. I'll drop it at the end of the season. Everything else is the usual crap available everywhere else. Being the last kid on the block, it's hard to imagine anyone paying money just to watch all that other crap.

This is a thread about tv ratings for the APL Isuzu trucks league, I wish you wouldn't derail it. If you simply must though, does it have to be all about me?

I'm guessing this 146k figure I've seen includes regionals. So as far as the 5 city metro number goes, 110k is definitely the highest for the season. The good news for Ten is that it's main channel finally beat SBS, for the first time in about 8 weeks. https://tvtonight.com.au/2021/11/saturday-20-november-2021.html

The Australia Cup has incredible potential to unite the game in this country if the FA really give a shit, like they claim to, it can become something really special. Link that with a NSD and a National NPL tier under that.....,,

Ok, take a deep breath and read my comment again... We do NOT have a national NPL, unless you count that NPL finals series..all NPL is state based... Yes we have a national cup but the disjointed season means either pro or semi pro teams are disadvantaged, ot to mention the rigged draw, As for NSD....... 10 months to go until it's been booked in to the competition calander next year, when are they going to announce the clubs/format......... if they gave a shit they would give clubs longer than that to prepare.....

Draw not rigged anymore, the only "rigging" is that NPL clubs have home advantage against A-League clubs but that is a good thing in my opinion. The season is disjointed due to Covid, but when things are back to normal the early rounds of the cup will be on during NPL season and pre-season for A-League clubs, and only the semis and final will be on after the NPL wraps up. Short of the A-League switching to a winter season how else would you do it? Once an NSD is in place, what would a "national NPL" be apart from national play-offs between state-based NPLs (potentially for a promotion spot to the NSD, which would actually give the games some meaning and hopefully fan interest)? Agree they need to hurry things up with the NSD if there is to be a 2023 start. But I think it will end up being March-October to align with the NPL rather than January-May.
