+ 1 !!!!
There is many closet afl supporters amongst us.
I've said it before they are part of the cancer supporting that game that does all it can to stifle our game from grass roots up.
Anyone think being linked with them on the same broacast medium helps are delusional.

ALeague worked well whilst at FOX for it had EPL pulling people in, if you think people will watch APLM because afl will be at P+ as a drawcard you've lost the plot.

Given now that Optus have extended the EPL rights to 2027/8, would it be worth it for Paramount/10 to try and get the rights to the Lower English leagues or the other big European leagues?

its not a bad question ayyl, Championship rights is with beIN and ESPN/FOX/Kayo etc - not sure when that contract is due for renewal but yes having another top league that can be a drawcard makes far more sense (than bloody afl) but all these planets needs to align that I think will be very hard to navigate nowadays.
I really don't think alot of forward planning has been done by CBS/P+ and APL.
Just making sure their deal was signed and closed off that is understanable but under the tuff circumstances the game was/is in you'd think they would have looked into how to bolster/strengthen their viewing drawcards/click bait so to speak to the APLM.

FOX rubbed everyone up the wrong way, expensive etcetc BUT as a viewer it was the perfect combo with EPL/AL.
IF only Optus was interested for the APL but I'm sure they wouldn't have paid what CBS/SilverLake did.
Optus would have been far better for the APL imo.
Anyway water under the bridge.

Im confused LFC.... The FFA and now APL have invested so much time and energy in attracting AFL/NRL supporters to also be summer real football consumers.... why the change of heart now? You clearly have an un healthy hatred of a sport that has very little overlap with football mate. The AFL is just doing its own thing if you dont watch it thats fine.... but head office clearly thinks that subscribers will watch whatever they tell them to watch and support whatever teams they market to them ......
If Paramount/10 do win the rights to broadcast AFL they may very reasonably expect to have better subscription retention over the summer Aleague season as people tend to be lazy and not unsubscribe when they are not actively watching.. In fact you may even have an increase in viewers starved of sport who may not like cricket or tennis, actually watching a game or two of A league....  AFL isnt your enemy mate, they barely even acknowledge the ISUZU leagues exist.

MSC, the direction FFA more so AL/Lowy went never sat well with me having a Gallop and the likes following NRL/Afl ways.
No change of heart on my part there, I'm slightly a bitter so to speak but for the big picture of the game I've tried supporting our Pro football but no P/R is a hard pill to swallow.
As you have seen locally I'm a active grass roots and npl follower more so.
I've never liked afl for our State never was behind it Thankfully like yours and those other minor States.
afl's strength has been good management and $'s, we may not overlap as you say But they have done all they can to make our game jump hoops getting somewhere over the years.........
I recall even when Lowy was bidding for the WC they were asked for ground availabilty that they said NO they wouldn't change their fixture dates for eg......
The afl press if they had the chance put the knife in our game they do/have, that McGuire DH used to belittle our game any chance he could.
The anglo sports press against us.
They and the ol anglo days was all about calling us "poofters" gay is todays term right, maybe you don't wish to remember some of this.
No they don't do their own thing - background politics have been going on for decades.
Why would they acknowledge anything re real Football, they know its the big enemy beneath that is struggling to get "bigger" in mainstream and thats where they like it to stay.

They are the enemy overall, they get the most $'s ( had far better management than we've had + the ol anglo roots of the past ) and they will do all they can staying top of the pile.
Why do you think their W league was launched, our W leagues has been the biggest growth they never even thought of till they saw the roll on of Womens Football.
Its been stretigic to start that up.

I'm sorry I expect being your a Vic you have succumbed to supporting it in some ways due to growing up with it and like most of us kids you join the party so to speak to be part of the crowd if I'm right ?
So so glad we up here never had that afl influence, it was an absolute nothing in my young days up here.
I admit re NRL you supported it some shape or form but grew out it long long long ago.

If the AFL sign with 10 and Paramount+ it would be a gift from heaven for the ALM.

It's pretty simple - the platform functioning would be improved, and there would be millions more eyeballs subscribing to the platform.

Or.......we can drift alone on a P+ platform that barely works.

Mate my point is that as a company AFL is just doing it own thing ... just like in business. If your competitor decides that women's sport is a great new market then you do the same to boost your market share and make sure you dont miss out .... Its not their fault they have the lions share of everything..... ITS FOOTBALL'S fault in this country.
I know you didnt agree with the targeting of AFL/NRL types bud and trust me. Nobody on this forum needs to prove his football grassroots/NPL credentials less than you..
Personally I see AFL as a bit of a hobby entertainment thing, Ill watch a game if nothing else is on but thats where the interest dies.... If the Tigers win.... yay .... if they lose .... oh well no bother. Rather than worrying about pinching their fans or beating them at their own game, WE should have looked to target our own fans...... thats why AFL is winning.

MSC yes in the BIG picture our own Governance pre AL to current has been commercially inept let alone managing our own pyrimad.
Too many chiefs and sections only worrying about their piece of the pie for its been so small ($$$) each sector can only do what it can to survive as you well know having been cast out at one end of the scale.

Re the target audience for eg, up here with all the circles I'm around, having 2 sons in the 20's and their huge mix of friends/contacts around the football circle we frequent I always have my ears "open".........were around people who have bro's/sisters etc playing football weekly.
You hardly hear anyone talk in general about NRL/afl casually in discussion around the grounds or at social events.
They hardly attend any of these games that I know of, they are football.
They talk football results or fixtures, EPL etcetcetc
These are the target audience they neglect.
The active registered football person/family and close contacts that follow.
The countless ol bitters < fingers crossed the NSD will bring back many + many of their 2nd/3rd gen.
The players and friends going to NPL games who have no connect with AL/APL let alone following the other codes.
My own 2 don't go to AL/APL games for years, they couldn't be bothered have no interest in it but they'll stay up watching football all night over weekends like countless countless others or head to a NPL or grass roots game and not from my influence might I add.
Not until this Pro league becomes part of our world (it needs the many football followers they are missing who stick by the game win/lose/draw not fair wethered ones) all the marketing and meduim level it throws up will it prosper but for some peak times throwing in some gold dust for attraction or in the hope sitting by the remote control someone watchs for the heck of it.

Thats EXACTLY what I am talking about mate.....  yet APL and FFA before them dont see the bigger picture and STILL want to attract the consumer dollar ...... They have a ready made audience but dont want to (or know how to) engage with it. We both know that that is a sure way to destroy a business no?

Talk getting strong that the TEN/Paramount play for the AFL rights is the real thing.
This report is from the UK Daily Mail:

Inside the 'high-powered New York summit' where Channel 10 bosses plan to scoop AFL rights from Channel Seven and Kayo with a $2.5billion offer

Channel 10 is making a big play for the AFL.

The struggling network is pulling out all the stops in its efforts to scoop Seven for the free-to-air broadcast rights, even flying AFL chief Gillon McLachlan to New York last week to meet executives from Ten's U.S. parent company, reports The Australian.

The AFL is reportedly looking for '$2.5billion over five years', and Channel 10 is willing to do 'whatever it takes' to secure the rights.

Mr McLachlan met with the President and CEO of Paramount Global, Bob Bakish, in New York City on Thursday to discuss the AFL deal.

Also in attendance were Channel 10's joint Australian bosses, Beverley McGarvey and Jarrod Villani.

Part of the sell to Mr McLachlan is understood to be Paramount's ability to showcase the sport internationally via its Paramount+ streaming platform.

yer main content left ? as a subscriber I hardly watch a NRL game, SOO and the Finals if anything, never ever watch afl BUT I watch heaps of motor sport - F1/motogp/Nascar/ESPN other leagues incl EFL/beIN/Golf and for those interested that keeps growing here is the USA BB.
I think it still has alot to view imo.

NRL viewership is so big on Fox, it clearly drives subscription numbers in NSW and Qld, so we could end up with a situation where streaming subs are split across the Southern and Northern states for different platforms.

Two codes of sport Fox may consider to carve out some sort of niche: Conkers (big in Scotland) and Bocce (big in Italy).
Fox have already shown a Huge commitment to Darts.
Harness racing, tuff mudder or jelly wrestling are afew more to go in for.
