This was easily one of the most fascinating interviews I've ever conducted. Earlier this week, I spoke with Matty Kemp, one of only a handful of people to have played for both United and Victory. He opened up about why he made the move, how he was received in both camps and his experiences in the Original Rivalry. Find it here: https://www.theinnersanctum.com.au/behind-the-original-rivalry-part-1-crossing-the-divide/

Adelaide fans didn't rate him, but he was capped for the Socceroos after moving to Victory.

Isn't this "old rivalry" really been built up from the AFL orginally ? made a thing of it marketing wise when AL commenced. Like even I know how much bad blood came to be due to the AFL dna amongst the lower States. Overall it has been good viewing as a neutral over the years.

No, not all AFL South Australians do not like Victorians. It does originate from the old Adel City and South Melb. days as well. They were great games at Hindmarsh and if I am not mistaken we played them 4 times in a row in the pre. lim. finals. Great memories beating the Vics at any time.

AFL days but with the onset of the AFL that doesn't occur anymore. To an extent it still existS in the AFL, but with 10 Victorian clubs AND ONLT 2 SA clubs it is certainly not as intense as it is in our game. South Australians do not like Victorians in most things but in Football (soccer) the rivalry is more intense and more genuine I feel. I guess we are a lot smaller state and the rivalry is more intense for South Australians than Victorians.

More likely from Adelaide City and Melbourne Knights- two grand finals plus bad behaviour from Knights fans in Adelaide.

Rose coloured glasses..... lol https://au.soccerway.com/matches/2002/03/08/australia/nsl/adelaide-city/south-melbourne/62548/head2head/I remember that 4 nil drubbing though... I loved the old Juve vs Hellas clashes - nowdays I have to watch serieA, a league that allows their clubs to use the same foreign names. Lol. Interestingly I think our 2004 finals game against the current Adelaide United was our last ever in NSL ....
