Given the presence of an Australian national team at a major tournament, I feel as if we should have an individual thread for this.
What are everyone’s 18 man Olympic squads?
Mine at present would be:
GK: Delianov, Margush
DF: Gersbach, Deng, Souttar, Atkinson, Rowles
MF: McGree, Genreau, Baccus, Watts, Devlin, de Silva
FW: Piscopo, D’Agostino, Juric, Arzani, DWH

Strain absolutely has to be picked. Not only is he our best U23 full back, he’s been one of the best full backs in the entire league this season.

I’d even be in favour of taking Langerak as an over age player considering the form he’s in at the moment and the fact he’s acclimatised to Japan.

+xPoor folami and Dylan Ryan have gone down the pecking order Yeah, I’ve been super disappointed by them both. I would have killed for CCM to sign either of them ahead of Bouman in the off season based off of national team performances. How wrong I was. Bouman has been straight-up class as an assist machine who can play both up front and out wide.

Isn't Tongyik eligible (at 24)? Why not have him and Rowles together?
You'd have to take Piscopo on current form. He and De Silva both way ahead of Arzani on current form (even though I'm a massive Arzani fan).
You'd have to take Watts. How old is Karacic?
Probably Deng, Strain and Atkinson. Probably Glover and either Margush or Delianov.
Definitely Genreau. Maybe Devlin. Probably McGree.
D'Agostino and Kuol.
Probably Metcalfe and DWH

SMH confirms what I’d heard and what had been rumoured, Olyroos are planned to compete in the Toulon Tournament pre-Olympics. Would be fantastic as a showcase and as preparation

Personally i would like to see A. toure, M toure, kuol, Yengi selected for the squad. It would be good to take a few younger players and help their development

Accelerate their development by bringing them in and having a look. Can’t hurt especially with a 34 man squad.

I wouldn’t take any players outside the Olympic age bracket, and just use this as an opportunity to further develop the other players.
It’s going to be a very heavy schedule for many of the players anyway with a tiring season they are coming off and then the WC qualifiers. Hard to see many of those players being well positioned to take part.

For those interested, AOC has released the Olympic Kits for all sports, so assuming one of these (probably the girl 5th in from the left) will be the Olyroos kit Ps. I wrote this before trying to upload the picture, but can’t see the button to upload pictures in a post from mobile anymore, so I haven’t uploaded the image gah

Yes, I would assume that too. But, knowing how ASICS and AOC will work, and also considering what else is being shown off in the image, Olyroos will be wearing something veeeery similar

I thought Aiden O'Neill was a shoo in for the Olympics with his form in the last half of the season with Brisbane. Since moving to Melbourne he's hardly been sighted. Is he injured? I would put him ahead of Baccus et al for the DM role if he was fit.

Was quite a while ago now and he's listed as "indefinite" on the injury list, so not sure when we'll see him again.

With about 4 - 6 weeks before they announce an Ollyroos squad it is highly unlikely that he will be in the squad. It is a real shame for the lad but there are other players currently playing that position that can do the job. Some are playing better than he was when he was fit. Our greatest strenght and depth at U23's is the midfield 6/8 area.
