++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ for tonight's coverage

https://www.mediaweek.com.au/weekend-tv-ratings-saturday-october-23-2021/

10

The channel’s primary channel share hasn’t been in double figures all year. However the Saturday share of 9.9% was better than any of the previous 41 weeks.
Driving the ratings recovery was the coverage of the first match between the Matildas and Brazil with a metro audience of 317,000. The game was a timeslot winner after Grantchester finished.
10’s other entries in the top 20 shows were 10 News First on 317,000 and the Matilda’s post game coverage with 211,000.

so i watched the Matildas game last night. its the first time I have watched CH10 do a full production of a football match (I wasn’t able to watch the first game last Saturday). And I have to say, I was very impressed. It was slick, professional and of very good quality.

Spoke to a senior Australian sports journalist on Sunday, and he says 10 is hell bent on making Football work... he was gobsmacked at the extent 10 has got behind Football... its kinda all hands on deck.... he said expect much more to come...

But back to 9 and Stan... if I was a rugby fan I would be beyond pissed... so glad we went with 10...

This is basically what we've been wanting for twenty years (probably even longer than that), a commercial station that actually sees the potential in the game, and is prepared to do the hard yards to make it work.

I also agree 10 was the best option, even if we had had our pick of the FTA networks. The other two commercial channels are too beholden to NRL/AFL to really make an effort with football. SBS would have been nice for sentimental reasons but obviously don't have the cash, and the ABC put zero effort into their FTA matches the previous couple of seasons (not to mention the Liverpool debacle). The fact that Ten's regular audience is not that huge is also potentially a good thing, as it means the A-League won't get shunted if its ratings experience a dip.

I've been watching replays of recent Matildas/Brazil and Socceroo/WCQs on Youtube.

Does anyone know if  Youtube has A L games or Aussie club Champ League games available on   replays?

If they do, I feel like I don't have to subscribe to Paramount, as Ten covers Socceroo and Matildas games live, plus supposedly one A L game per week.

I used to flick though most A L games, having recorded them on Fox, watching all goals scored and the  precursory interplay that resulted in them, because I was paying for football.

I don't know if others in general have found this?  With our old expensive, rip off Foxtel deal, where one had to pay a lot of money, and even more to get the History Channel, we are finding many Foxtel Lifestyle programmes and History Channel programmes are free on Youtube. I think we payed $130 a month to Fox for Sport, and two TVs, still not with the best HD available, missing out on the History channel, which I find interesting. Comparatively, Netflix and Stan are only $13 per month for each.

Since 2005 when the A L commenced, we rarely watch any live TV now apart  from news and big sporting events, like football, cricket, Olympics. There is so much more free or cheap viewing content available in 2021.

If one has a  Smart TV - Youtube, ABC I View, SBS On Demand, are all free, plus the cheap Netflix and Stan - altogether  provide much better viewing options than when the A L started 16 years ago.

Given we have no local  A L team, thanks to Gallop, to create a much  higher level of interest, I'm not sure I'm going to watch as much football. as when i had my Fox subscription, outside national team games.

That 10 are broadcasting all matches including junior matches is huge ....

Spoke to a senior Australian sports journalist on Sunday, and he says 10 is hell bent on making Football work... he was gobsmacked at the extent 10 has got behind Football... its kinda all hands on deck.... he said expect much more to come...

I'm really pleased to read this, Midfielder.

Not having Fox anymore I've been absolutely shocked at the FTA lack of advertising and news stories prior to Socceroo games. Ditto post game coverage. I never really watch Ten live for anything else outside football, so if they are plugging Socceroo games prior, I don't see it.

RATINGS ANALYSIS: Audiences abandon 10 in droves as the viability of a third commercial network is in doubt

https://tvblackbox.com.au/page/2021/11/04/ratings-analysis-audiences-abandon-10-in-droves-as-the-viability-of-a-third-commercial-network-is-in-doubt/

A significant drop in ratings for Australia’s beleaguered third-placed network raises serious questions on whether Australia can sustain three commercial free-to-air networks

Ratings have plummetted to an all-time low of just 367,000 5 city metro — shedding nearly 30% of its 2011 audience of 538,000.

The show now owns the dubious title of commercial TV’s worst-performing regular nightly premium program.

In 2001 10’s news service recorded 1.07 million 5 city metro. Since then it has shed a staggering 70% of its audience to sit currently at 363,000 across all capital cities.

Its commercial share has more than halved across this period from 49.4% to sit now at 22.5%.

PRIME TIME

While the figures above are for the three regular shows which air on 10 around the year, the news is also bad on a number of fronts in prime time.

  • MasterChef Australia was down 39% this year vs 2020
  • The Bachelor was down 29% this year vs 2020
  • The Masked Singer was down 25% this year vs 2020
  • Australian Survivor was flat year on year
  • Making It Australia bombed
  • Celebrity MasterChef is struggling.
  • The Bachelorette is down over 30% this year vs 2020.

The gap is substantial.
ABC beats Ten regularly.
This is only relevant to the extent that the A-League needs Ten for exposure.
If Paramount streaming kicks off, then it may not be so important.

With someone like CBS backing 10, it will likely come back. Most of the popular US CBS shows like young Sheldon are on other networks still. So there will be a bedding in period until they can get all their content back (same for P+). However it does look as though they really need to look at creating better local content to really bring people back. Someone like Hamish and Andy are usually a safe bet.

I took an interest once Ten got the rights, and generally, I think it's a good thing that they have the rights, but bloody hell, I noticed early on how miserable Ten's ratings were, especially their News ratings.  I couldn't believe it when I first noticed it, but it's pretty consistent.
It looks like they 've just let it run down over many years, but it's possible it will bounce back with new owners with deep pockets.
I agree with the sentiment that FTA is not as strong as it was 10 years ago, that is obviously true, but Seven and Nine are still getting decent numbers, and that means the advertising and sponsorship dollars are going to go in that direction.

yes understand keeping tabs since the CBS announcement....
Despite all the other mediums today FTA still has its use, yes dropping but its there, smart tv's have all the channels at the remote to either try out or not depending what you feel like watching.

I watch FTA through my box and tbh I hardly know what channel I'm on mosty times now.
Hardly know what show/whatever is on which channel for I just use the search all channels and scroll what title tickles my fancy not much attention tot he channel.
7/9 and 2 doing ok.

10 has never been only the same level as 7 or 9.

If I had the choice of a mainstream channel that was a disaster I would've thought it was 7, I swear they only dedicate their broadcast to those over 70. shows what I know about mainstream TV.

The Project was a reasonable concept when it started some years ago. Tommy Little, Susie Youseff and Peter Hellier provide the light relief. The problem is when they try should be doing serious stuff they get the sanctimonious Waleed pontificating enough with what seems to be a knowledge of the news gleaned from the comic pages. PVO always shapes politics in what is good or bad for the government  - rather what is good or bad policy, Hamish is just superficial and Steve Price would be boring with his constant pouting.

Important subjects should be treated with respect but the only time that gets done is when Barrie Cassidy is a guest. I get that it is not meant to be news program - but the seriosu segments need to be treated better.

Interesting article in Fairfax today about Fox.

News are thinking of floating Fox....as their profit is up mainly due to less operating costs I assume that is Rugby & Football in the main...

But some key data as kinda up to data is interesting, and the

"""  As of September 30, Foxtel’s total closing paid subscribers were around 3.9 million. About 1.8 million were residential and commercial broadcast subscribers, while 2.1 million consisted of Kayo, Binge and Foxtel Now subscribers.""

So 3.9 million all up
with 2.1 streaming.... meaning 1.8 still on the old Fox .... also of the streaming .3 are commercial clients...

This clearly shows Fox is moving to a subscription type service, akin to Amazon, Stan, Netflicks & Paramount...while maintaining I suspect a large number of boomers still on Fox..

In the third quarter of last year Fox had 7.75 million subscribers. That is basically a 50% reduction over a 12 month period.

Will only get worse for them. Sport aside the two main draw cards for viewers to fox are HBO and MTV (for its reality shows). Paramount owns MTV so you would think they will not renew the MTV contract when its up so all the content is exclusive to P+. This means essentially HBO will be keeping it afloat in terms of non sport subscribers. You would think they will need to drop the price and produce their own content in order to stay relevant

Foxtel box is a dying concept.
I still have it because I got a year deal, its convenient, my family use the Go App and my dumb tv wont die.So its convenient for recording programs, like Socceroo matches.
Bottom line though is ,once i finally get a smart tv with all the apps, there is very little i need to watch on it and it has few streaming  apps i can access.
So its probably done next year.
Listing suggests its being offloaded as a long term loser for someone else to worry about. If it was good why not keep it

Poor ratings bad news for The Project co-hosts Lisa Wilkinson and Carrie Bickmore

https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/poor-ratings-bad-news-for-the-project-cohosts-lisa-wilkinson-and-carrie-bickmore/news-story/e3f1d2d046c0f0530218e1b5284eaf87

Plummeting ratings at The Project have spawned rumours that star hosts Lisa Wilkinson and Carrie Bickmore are facing pay cuts to their seven-figure contracts.

With ratings plummeting to an all-time low, television circles are buzzing with talk The Project’s most high-profile hosts will be asked to take pay cuts.Ratings for the Channel 10 evening news panel show are down 20 per cent year on year, luring just 367,000 viewers (five city metro) this week, having shed almost 30 per cent of its 2011 audience of 538,000.

Network 10’s parent company, Viacom CBS, bought Ten in August 2017 after the Australian network was placed into receivership.

So I helped mum buy a new tele on the weekend.
Still no paramount app available in Australia. Maybe if it runs android but this is a brand new LG tv.

Even apps like BritBox are on there.
She's not the sort that's about to start attaching laptops hdmi or blah blah casting

This doesn't seem very good a few weeks out from the season.

Unfortunately, Paramount Plus is not currently available natively on smart TVs, so you won't find a Paramount Plus app on your Samsung or LG model. Apps for smart TVs should come in the near future, but there's no word on a time frame just yet.

No word on a time frame...do they not intend to bother? Paramount has been active for a couple months now.
It seems a bit odd

My brand new tv originally came with a 10 all access app, or called something similar to that. After an update it became Paramount+ and i've had it for months now. Works great. The app will be getting a facelift once aleague launches too

I'm not tech savvy, but by paramount not being "native " does that mean pre installed on the tv or not able to download it to your TV and that you have to cast,  as we have a kogan tv and that has paramount+ on it.
