The people that know Qld well (Waz), would basically know what Stadiums would eventually suit the purposes of the Brisbane Roar and a second Brisbane team, most likely team 14 in the A League. Will any of these arenas fit the bill? Brisbane Area 15k a temporary pool for water polo and swimming; Chandler Indoor Sports Centre 10k gymnastics; (upgrade) Ballymore Stadium 10k; I thought it was re-zoned not for major sports or something like that; (re-build) Ipswich Stadium 10k; (under construction)

Ipswich and Sunshine coast get perfect upgrades. Ipswich ready for an NRL team and sunshine coast to sit there unused. i can understand ipswich and sunny coast as they are growing and will probably need a stadium sooner or later but toowoomba doesnt and neither does cairns. Meanwhile brisbane sits there crying out for the right sized stadium for the reds, the roar and a second NRL team but are denied completely.

Yeah, unfortunately we can't get enough supporters to Redcliffe due to the travel. So Ipswich will be just as bad and as for Toowoomba, may as well play at the Goldie because it's half the distance. Unfortunately the Roar suffer from being in the host city because it's the prelims that will drive demand for boutique venues hence why Toowoomba, Ipswich, Sunny Coast and Cairns get new stadia. On the bright side it's good for Football in those regions. But in Brisbane you have the finals for which there is already a state of the art facility in Suncorp. Suncorp is only going to be used for Football and Rugby Sevens so it sucks up the demand for another venue. I'm not totally disappointed though because I actually think Ipswich and the Sunny Coast are possible options for future A-league bids (forget Gold Coast). The Sunny coast has the population and community, it's just lacked the infrastructure. You could even have an A-league team based around Brisbane West/Brisbane Valley and share games between Ipswich and Toowomba. A dark horse is also a Cairns/Townsville team. Some people originally thought Northern Fury should have been in Cairns, although smaller than Townsville it has a strong football community. I suspect the best prospect for the Roar though will be to band together with the second NRL side and QLD reds and try and lobby that way.

The only option in the list above that comes close is Ballymore (assuming they fix the transport and entertainment issues). It hasn't be re-zoned, just too unworkable for major sports, so the QRU doesn't even bother. It is close to the city but it's tucked in the back of inner-city suburbia with no real transport. So the neighbours (who are reasonably wealthy) hated all the extra traffic and noise. The current QRU plan involves turning it into a centre of excellence with the main stadium demolished and the western stand/corporate facilities rebuilt. It's really intended for trials and showcases not major events. Because it's earmarked for Olympic Hockey, I suspect the bid is trying to piggy back off of the existing plans because it would be perfect for that. Football probably not so much.

I am 100% certain this is QLD stadiums doing, they dont want any competition to suncorp. they just want to bleed the smaller organisations dry.

Completely agree, 15-20k stadia in Toowoomba and Cairns are complete wastes of money, will never be used for anything that requires it outside of the Olympics. Even at the Olympics, unless a very high profile team happens to be playing there I struggle to see Toowoomba filling such a stadium. But then the Queensland government has zero understanding of football, they will probably be thinking about having rugby league as an Olympic sport.

No doubt there's a bit of Stadiums QLD in this, but worse than that I guarantee every venue that gets State money put into it will end up being owned by Stadiums QLD as well. There's no venue competition in QLD, it's basically a racket. 11 years away though, so it's not like it can't change. If Football Australia get involved, partner with the Roar, 2nd NRL side etc and lobby hard core with a solid business case ahead of the Women's World Cup they might be able to snake a venue away from Cairns or Toowoomba. Long odds but could happen if the right people get involved.

+xSunshine Coast could be a solid option for the future. Isnt the population exploding with southerners looking for a lifestyle change? Yeah and it's already bigger in population than Central Coast, Newcastle (excluding Maitland) and Wollongong. Only 100K behind Canberra. It's a little spread out but they're devoid of any representation in any sport so it's a ripe market. I'm more interested in seeing the A-League try some smart left field options rather than go for already saturated markets.

I wish people stop using Ballymore as a venue, it’s a rabbit warren to get to with no surrounding facilities for fans. Only rugby will be the beneficiary of an upgrade here.

Aside from the 'cool' name which hints at something historic, there is absolutely nothing worthwhile about the location, the facilities or the history of the ground. I say this as someone who used to watch Latham carve up teams from the XXXX Hill. It'll become a training/HQ/CoE venue like Red Hill for the Broncos or Allan Border Field for the ACB. Nothing more.

If Brisbane cannot get a boutique venue for a second club I really think the league should target the Sunny Coast for a club. It seems like the stadium will definitely get an upgrade to host some games at the Olympics and if football gets in first it could be a great niche club for the locals to support during the summer. I don’t know how the operation model works for the stadium up there but I hope it’s favourable like Redcliffe and unlike the deals GCU and NQF signed which contributed to their financial downfall.

Looks like they have a proposal for 12,000 seats plus the hills which is absolutely perfect for A League level. Make it happen!

The link works, thanks. Very nice little stadium. 12,000 might be ok, just for the Sunshine Coast but would be too small for a Brisbane A League team.

Well if this Stadium is going to get an upgrade, for the benefit of intetnational teams etc, they won't be expected to swing on vines or run through forrests and perhaps wrestle lions to get in and out of Ballymore. It sounds like it will be improved in and around it.

+x+x+x+x+xAnyway a long story short Roar could play out of Ballymore and Bris 2 out of Ipswich. Done. Will never be perfect. Except the10k at Ballymore is too small. and that Ipswich is not Brisbane. and still not address the fact that brisbane city is in need of a 20k stadium for reds, and roar and towoomba is definitely not in need of a 20k stadium. A southern Brissi team could play at Ipswich. Dolphin Stadium is around 10k and that seems to be working for Roar, Ballymore would be around the same The Roar could play derbies at Suncorp anyway. Re a southern Brisbane team and Ipswich, I assume you don't live in Brisbane. Not an option. Honestly, an Ipswich Logan team. Keep hearing how there are so many juniors coming out of there. the ipswich stadium is going to be the lions new training base at springfield. it will be used only for the modern pentathlon so no hope for a rectangular stadium in ipswich.
