Not exactly terrific football. But the result is invaluable.
I like to think how that, skill-wise, this isn’t indicative of their abilities. Awer Mabil and Tom Rogic can be outstanding in other circumstances.

No surnames on the Chinese or Japanese kits. Not a coincidence...
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Not sure how to assess Aaron Mooy’s performance. Lots of sideways passing but perhaps that was what was needed. But I don’t know about how he’ll handle the pace. It’s a shame that he has gone to China.
I think Mabil and Boyle offer a lot going forward. So that raises the question (for potential matches without quarantine) … where does Mathew Leckie fit in?

Saudi lead 1:0 at HT. Nice goal. Japan win 1:0 Shows the value of a 1:0 win. Expected yet annoying.

Big chance Oman. VAR should be checking for a Saudi hand now.

Saudi hold on for the win. Oman should've scored in added time. Frustrating but we've done our job this window.

Everytime Mooy came on in both game , we were poor. Too slow n his movement without the ball is just terrible. We do need Rogic tho but hopefully Mooy won't get a call for next window.
Reading the Thai football message board they were watching this game and everyone said the Aussies r playing terrible n coward. They didn't understand why we were so scared to attack always turned around n go back. They think this game is the most boring football match.

A win is a win. Get the hell out of there and let us never speak of that game again. It’s not often I fall asleep during a Socceroos game but last night was one of those times. Not complaining though, two wins from two you take every single day of the week.
Was really hoping for a Oman draw at least. It means we have to beat Oman in Oman or win at home and draw away with Saudi

Zero draws in our pool so far, it's looking more and more likely the points we'll need is 20 or more, for second

+xRegardless of conditions this has been the most boring game of football I have seen for years a long time. Out turnover rate has been horrible. Whats wrong with the conditions, why would Vietnam serve up a sub par pitch? You'd think the idea they might may offend might offend some people.

Moot has been passing backwards and sideways for a long time now . I get that he’s short of a gallop but he really does stifle us going forward. Coming on as a sub probably means you notice it more. Hrustic and Rogic in particular struggled with the cow paddock

I can't see a place for him in the team that played against China. Boyle and Mabil were more effective as wingers, because they pose much more of a goalscoring threat and operate more effectively combining with thetr teammates in attacking interplay. Boyle in particular, was also equally as effective as Leckie usually is, when China had the ball.

If one's teammates in more advanced positions don't open effective passing lanes, it is a poor option to pass to them.

Another option is to look at Leckie as a central striking option? At the last Asian Cup, Ikon was our most dangerous player in the front three in terms of creating opportunities for teammates and most balls played and ball carried into the pen box. I think Ikon at his best is superior to Leckie at his best, when we have the ball. Hence, Leckie is competing with Maclaren, Taggart, Duke, etc. No player is undroppable. At one stage Mark Milligan was our most consistent and adaptable utility player for about five years, maybe more? Yet Ange used him as a sub in the latter rounds of the Asian Cup finals.

+xWhat have we learnt in this window? Grant can still offer something. Sainsbury can pass well most of the time but poses so risk. Souttar seems fine at this level and Degenek needs to be ready in case of injury. Behich is a mainstay while Smith is OK and Elder should get more chances. Mooy will be valuable in bigger games. Irvine still coming back from the injury but was fine vs China. Rogic building lung capacity and is best in games with space. Hrustic is fine with space on a good pitch deep. Shouldn't have hung so high in the centre backs when played forward. Jeggo is a sound squad member. Dougall didn't feature which is a shame. McGree didn't do much but will be in my squad every time. Mabil plays best on good pitches. Boyle is very very good. Taggart is like Rogic and needs the open game. Duke is really consolidating his place. Hindsight but it was a mistake to bring Arzani and possibly Strain pending form and injury. Genreau should have stayed in France. Thanks to all the squad members who didn't play and supported the camp. They probably still love getting together albeit they missed out on playing. We got exactly what we wanted on this window and the gaps in our performances should leave the players wanting to do better. Good summary with which I mostly agree, maybe except for Smith. He was horrible this match. Oh, and Taggart added nothing as well. I am impressed by Souttar and I hope Rogic stays fit because he still offers us a lot on decent pitches. And our squad depth is as good as it has been for years.

+x10 wins all against easy beats Well strange the other strong Asian nations aren’t stringing this winning streak together? Hmmm, maybe you are sick, with a version of Arnie Derangement Syndrome. Mate, go and get treated, ADS leads to a miserable life.

+xMooy's vision is just terrible..he only looks to pass side way and backward. There r so much space and he decided to go backwards so frustrating to watch. With due respect you are wrong. Mooy's vision is a strength of his game. One of the best in the Socceroos.

+xTonight we made history. ✅ 10 wins in a row ✅ First AFC nation to win 10 straight World Cup qualifiers in one campaign ✅ Fourth country EVER to win 10 straight World Cup qualifiers in one campaign ✅ Second ever Socceroos team to win 10 ‘A’ internationals in a row Fantastic to see a positive post. I was aware of 1 and 3, but not 2 and 4. Thanks for posting, B. Fantastic achievement! Simon Hill said only Spain, Mexico and Germany, have achieved 10 wins in a row in international football. Most wins achieved played away from home. Well done Arnie and the players!
