Had our goal counted the game would've changed anyway. It's all very hard to process at the moment. Lots of effort with little end product. Unfortunately our marketing department will use the Tilio run and Hrustic turn to make it appear we're world class.

I can't share the sentiment Hrustic is overrated. Maybe just a bit but he can play. He was used in a better way tonight albeit getting past Yoshida one on one is hard. Stensness seemed calmer with Jeggo next to him.

There was one link up with Hrustic and Stensness on the wing which looked good but it is a very fundamental thing.

Invariably we need midfielder who can do everything so I think Genreau has a decent hand. Add Juric and Volpato and things look better but if we have to go without them then so be it.

Was there any reason why Juric wasn't selected for these qualifiers?

King should never of been in the team and his rating proves that. Gee, it's a long way gone from when ,on these pages, people were extolling the greatness of this team when winning 11 in a row.
The posts on this topic remind me of the Orange Army posts. Win and they're world beaters lose and it's the coaches fault.
The next generation look pretty good, so, let's cheer for them and hope to find a coach with passion and knowledge who can get them to reach their full potential.

Just remember Arnie is paid very handsomely.

I'm sure there is a lot of quality out there who would come at a similar price.

Exactly.

There would be plenty of coaches willing to coach 2 knockout matches to potentially coach at a world cup ffs

Depending on who you get you offer them either the qualifiers + world cup or this cup and the next cycle too

We have done it before

Oh yeah I'm well aware.
I was lucky as a kid to be able to watch Italy.

I was 15ish for the Iran game and I don't really remember Australia's qualifiers before that to be honest (I do remember the home Argentina game but only vaguely (I think I was pretending to be Aurelio Vidmar with the ball in the corridor).

I felt 1998 and 2002 that's for sure and Jesus did I feel 2006 more than any Italy world cup run (even 2006 weirdly enough aha)

Absolutely world class comment Tom.  I agree 100% Hopefully this match was the final nail in the coffin of Frank Lowys attempt at destroying the game of football in Australia forever.....

1975-2004.  NSL?whatever else it was called: WC's played:  ZERO.  Attendances: a bit above zero.  Revenue: cevapi and souva's.  Media interest: SBS (2% station rating, 0.02% football)

2005-2018: LOWY era.  4 World Cups.  Asian Champions.  Asian Champions League Champions.  Confed Cup.  Attendances: Peak at 60,000 for regular season game.  50,000 for grand finals.  14,000k average.  Revenue circa $1 billion. Ratings: in 100,000's

What did the Lowy's ever do for us?

'Staff writers' Cowards. Giving King a 4 is harsh. Tulio with 6.5 highest rated. Grain of bloody salt these fox ratings.

I agree with them that Metcalfe was worst on ground. He looked hopelessly out of his depth. Also agree that Mabil was pretty much invisible after the first half hour. Thought King's rating was a little harsh compared to some of the others.

I remember the hoopla when we lost to NZ in the cycle before that but yes pretty much the same. I was only planning to watch Australia and Italy games at this world cup anyway so this has made it easy.

I've actually been quite apathetic about this whole thing worringly. It might be just because the whole thing has been a slow motion train wreck that started well before the results were going south.

yes Enzo good points and that all they are....we're all still in the lowest of lows re NT them's the facts.
The post 2005 qualified WC's were on the backs of the GG don't forget, what would it have been if not for them.
What IF Cahill didn't kick on longer than CR7.
We also hit lowest of lows through Ange's NT tenure. (AC was the high)
$1B - the fairy godfather and look where we are.
Nothing like judging a book by its cover.

It was tuff being there, I agree with many posts some not - don't we all.
We just don't have the cattle, that first 30seconds pretty much showed what was coming and we all knew in anycase.
They are too quick, to sharp, purposeful, skilful, organsied.
Should have been 3 @ HT.
No matter who coachs all I see is a poison chalice till we have players that are capable and a good core in top flight comps.
All this stems down to our systems/comps/and unity < that is all pretty average in this present day who were competing against at NT levels.

why is he a little twat? cause he picked italy over australia? (for now)

The same australia that rejected him at WSW & Syd FC, but is good enough to cut the mustard at Roma in the Serie A.? Just comes to show how broken the system is here.

i hope he picks italy, good on him if he makes it that far, but he can watch the world cup from his telly this year. cause neither nation will be at the world cup.

we need a Bale level kind of player to come through has to be in top 10 players in world to reinvigorate the game, stadium not even full for a crucial WC game in sydney? pretty disappointing. We need the crowds to be pumping. It can win us games like last night.

The playoffs and the WC all happen outside the Scottish Premiership season, therefore, Ange could do both jobs ;)

Ill put my thoughts what is wrong with the current status of the game here.

Firstly the idea we lack the cattle is to be questioned considering the likes of a small country like North Macedonia whom just beat Italy whom have the far better squad of players, look its no where near the 2006 squad or a current Japan squad as well but could this team do better in a tactical approach from a tactical inadequate coach like Graham Arnold? This team should not drop points to a Oman team whom had 7 players out and a China team which is overall poor.
Even got outplayed by Saudi Arabia whom we beat 4 years under Ange this is clearly a coaching problem as well as a player issue but mainly the former.

Secondly, I hate to say it but this is the bear fruits for FFA and the administrators involved for completely ballsing our not only player development pathway, but also the junior team programs which have been anything but also non-existent exception when they try to qualify for junior world cups which we dont have a great record.
From also removing all the 'good stuff' from the NSL era which helped develop the conveyor belt of players for the GG era by starting a franchise league NOT a football league in the a-league which has hardly focused on becoming one with more teams and eventual pro-rel but also little attention to junior development till now and not having a proper youth league by having youth teams from u-17 to u20 level which the NSL had in its glory days. (The 8 game NYL was a proper joke to begin with).

Whilst all of this when we had non-football people making this kind of important calls for the benefit for the sport.

Contrast to Japan whon have done all the right things by focusing on grassroots with a sound technical direction to investing into player development and its junior national teams and surprise surprise look where they are now compared to when we beat them 2006.

How the once former pride of Australian Sport called the Socceroos how the mightly has fallen in Australia.

The problem I have with saying that the GG was NSL-developed and therefore Lowy rode on their coat tails is that the 2002 generation was also NSL, as was the 1998, as was the 1994 and so on.  None made it to the WC.

Was the WC route tougher back then?  Yes because it was H and A do or die.  But 2006 was just as tough.

In 2006 Lowy sacked Farina and appointed Guus.  The win to qualify to the WC then allowed us to join Asia, and we went a different route.  This gave us 3 more qualifications.

None of that happens without Lowy.

And I won't even get started on the high's of the A_league over the NSL.

I listed multiple important things:  Multiple World Cups that most fans had never experienced once let alone 4 times, the move to Asia, the huge investment, and of course he crowds.

That football in this country is disfunctional at every level is not Lowy's doing.

Metcalfe, grant and stensnes shouldn't have started. Hrustic tried hard, but should have switched Boyle into that position behind Duke, or to replace Duke. There seemed little cohesion as a team as a whole, which is why mabil would put in a good turn then for no one to be running to pass to. Arnie was completely clueless in how to adjust the team once the Japanese got onto their rythm

I listed multiple important things:  Multiple World Cups that most fans had never experienced once let alone 4 times, the move to Asia, the huge investment, and of course he crowds.

That football in this country is disfunctional at every level is not Lowy's doing.

Yeah, your probably right. Frank Lowy single handedly saved Australian Soccer...... Those last couple '14 and '18 were just the pinnacles of our game..... Im sure it brought thousands of new fans to cheer on the "sokkah" teams and then go to the Isuzu league grounds the following year and buy heaps of merch..... thats awesome.
WMG should build a statue of him outside WUs new stadium that would be appropriate.

Agree with all of this, well said.

you just couldnt help yourself could ya, only took you a few posts to deflect the issue on hand. do you wank over those images?

deflect from what? That you're a complete stain on the game and you have nothing to contribute but the same hypocritical bullshit?

Enjoy dancing on the grave if it makes you happier.
