+xGoal scorers under Arnie's 26 games in charge: McLaren 8 (2 pens) Souttar 6 Duke 5 Mabil 5 Irvine 4 Leckie 4 Boyle 3 Hrustic 3 Taggart 3 Mooy 2 Rogic 2 8 single goal scorers Granted that a lot of those goals were against very weak opposition, but still interesting to see who actually has put the ball in the net for us. Amazing that our defender is practically the leading scorer, if we take off penalties. Good spread of goals across players. Just need a couple of them on Monday and defend for your lives.

+x+xWith Taggart going home surely Leckie can’t start v Peru as striker?! Has to be Jmac cos he looked ok v Uae with decent shot on target at least. wonder if Arnold wishes he included Cummings now Yeah something to ponder but at least we've got the clarity now. That injury must have flared up. Was scared about Hrustic but all clear. Planning starts now. There's nothing to ponder. Jmac is the only striker we've got. He has to play. Leckie's not a striker. Maybe throw Boyle further up the field as a quasi forward. With Boyle, Mclaren, Mcgree, Hrustic we have decent scoring options. My big fear is he will bring Duke back just for the whole "physical presence" thing. :shudders:

The list of scorers at least shows we are not a one trick pony like in 2018 with Jedineck and Timmy a distant second.

Yes from penalties and free kicks. He scored 2 penalties in the last WC -against Denmark and France and in the play off game v Honduras 2 penalties and a free kick(which did take a deflection off a defender)

Will Arnold start Hrustic v Peru despite being on Yellow card? Would be death if he got 2nd yellow and Roos down to 10 men?! I guess at this point it’s just ALL IN no matter the risks

Why did juric decline so much this year?
Probably our best striker apart from cahill in terms of international performances imo
scored some key goals for us, and not just when put on a plate

I could be wrong but think they carry over Hrustic wouldn't be sent off for getting a yellow against Peru, mate. Each game starts afresh and a player can only be sent off for a red or two yellows regardless of previous games.

Can someone please find where it is stated that yellow cards from one playoff, i.e., Hrustic would be on a yellow at the start of the Peru game. I find that very hard to believe.

Even if we somehow get past Peru, I'll spoil the WC for youses:
1. Spiflicated by the surrender monkeys 2. Sneak a win against Tunisia 3. Either (i) get thrashed by the Danes (if they need the points), or (ii) park a Mad Max bus and steal a draw (if a draw suits them) 3(ii). We get fustigated by Argentina, and our new team anthem is officially adopted... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV2A8icT7PI

+xWhy did juric decline so much this year? Probably our best striker apart from cahill in terms of international performances imo scored some key goals for us, and not just when put on a plate He was massive in the WC qualification. He stupidly played at the WC with an injury I believe. The move to Bulgaria killed him off. A shame because he had been doing well and would probably be near peak now had he kicked on.

Any Australian who succeeds should aspire to be signed by good clubs. All you have ever done in every reply to anyone on this forum is abuse and antagonise. Not once have you engaged in any kind of discussion and that shouldn't leave you wondering why people don't respond to anything you write on here. As someone explained earlier, Hrustic wasn't sitting on a yellow coming into this morning's game, so the one yellow he got today pretty much means nothing in the context of the Peru game.

I think we have a massive advantage over Peru in that we are totally familiar with the stadium and the Middle- east in general.
Plus we've played a number of sudden death elimination qualifiers - today, Scotland 1985, Israel 1989, 1993 against Argentina, 1997 against Iran, 2001 and 2005 against Uruguay, plus last WCQ Campaign against Syria and Costa Rica. Arnold as a player and coach has been involved since 1997, or even 1993. He has a lot of sudden death experience in big games.
Apart from a really good Chilean side in World Cup 2014, outside the big three of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, I think the other South American teams may have done little outside South America.
Unless Peru are so superior to us, technically, and I doubt they will be superior tactically, plus have better physical conditioning, which I doubt, I think Peru could struggle. A number of past Socceroos said they initially found playing in Asia to be quite a culture shock from 2006 - 2008. Hence, they considered they underperformed.
A big advantage will be for Aus to score first - more than against most higher ranked Asian teams.
I have no doubt they will be superior to us technically, in tight spaces, when they are in Ball Possession. I think they could get really frustrated if they are behind and lose composure.
It will also be interesting to see where we are in comparison to Uruguay in 2005. Both are/have been ranked 5th best in South America - in 2005 and now.
