That support ensured a tremendous atmosphere inside the stadium, in stark contrast to the meagre number of supporters at the other end of the ground supporting the three-year-old Macarthur side.

It was not all good though.

The fiercely passionate support boiled over into scenes that could, at best, be described as restlessness, during the Welcome to Country and national anthem

This was the ABC description. SBS probably waiting for the dust to settle before touching it.

You are so right on the meagre number of supporters of the Macarthur Bullsh1tters.
Outnumbered by someone there are a neutral estimated as 10:1.
What a pity about the other BS

Not sure what the solution is because 95% of those blokes under 30 would have been born in Australia and still consider themselves Croatians first, Australians second and hate the A League and anything to do with it with a passion.

Like how do you stop a thousand fans chanting Ustase chants? Individuals making nazi salutes are easy to ban once identified but the crowd en masse? Closed door fixtures?  What's the answer.

I want an NSD to happen and the sooner the better but I can't see how this carry on helped at all last night.

Just imagine if the crowd were respectful of the anthem the welcome to country, didn't chant far right slogans what we'd be talking about today. How fantastic the game was, the occasion, the club, the atmosphere, the passion etc etc. Nope. Instead all the same shit that led to the A League all over again.

In B4 mono calls the MSM racist.

the funny thing is when Croatia play the 'Actual' Croatians do not 'act like that, i got Croatian Heritage i watch a fair bit of the Croatian national team and for the most part the crowd are no different to any other fan base. If anything the most rascit group of fans in my travel are and always have been consistently the English....

i do believe it is a 'small number of people ' it was clearly the active support stand most of the blokes 'should' be banned.

i don't support welcome to country however i also dont support booing welcome to country - i think it is out of place in sport i have long said 1st nations ppl need their OWN public holiday of remembrance when their culture is celebrated - welcome to country in a football, AFL, NRL etc match just rings hollow and feels more like colonialist pushing there guilt on ethnic Australians - lets not forget who the 'real' murderers/ racists are in all this...never forget the 'white Australia Policy' was anti ethnics for a long time...

singing the Croatian national Athem during the Australian one should see the club fined or kick out of the competition if they don't step in and stop these idiots they should be throw out - id give the club some benefit of the doubt you cannot control every fan but you should take active steps after this to stop this poor behavior

the Nazi salute should land you in jail im pretty sure it is a criminal offence and you got be a nutter to be doing that shit

overall it is sad that we are talking about these things post what was a 'decent' game of football with a good crowd vocial crowd but it is what it is.....

as someone with Cro heritage that is an Australian from birth all i can say is sorry for the bad behavior we are not all like that i don't know how anyone born and raised in Australia can consider themselves anything other the Australian it is good to be proud of your heritage and culture but there need to be respect and what happened last night was blacken by some bad and inexcusable behavior.

as for a NSD we need to acknowledge 16 of the 16.5k fans were there for SU58 not Bulls we need to get a NSD up with P/R but the rules around fan behavior needs to be ramped up and strict any club wanting to join the NSD needs to ensure swift action is taken against anti social behavior

Thought the Sydney United fans added a lot of atmosphere and colour to the occasion. They sounded loud and passionate on tv. A few idiots amongst them but every club has them. They also put up a decent fight on the field. I vividly remember the Vedran Rozic era well, an awesome team at the time. Imagine the boredom and patheticness if it had been McArthur vs Western United, maybe 1,500 tops. Yep, getting sick of these welcome to country ceremonies infiltrating every sporting, cultural and community event nowdays. Don’t see the need for them. They’re losing impact and kind of dragging on a bit like last night’s one did.

Yep...the welcome to country just drags on too much now....but only a horrible type of person would boo it.

I would love to see some of these clubs get into the ALeague but SU fans have just derailed that....they have learnt nothing and it was hundreds not a handful...disgusting.

Im an Aussie and I love the Croatian players but wow you thugs have put a nasty taste in my mouth...very sad people.

One way you fix this is you De register the club and there is then nowhere for them to gather and carry on like racist fascist Morons.

Has FFA got the guts to actually come down very heavy on the behaviour to threaten the club with disbandment??
I doubt it ......but that might actually get the SU hierarchy to take it seriously or face oblivion.
Otherwise it’ll happen again, you can bet your life on it.

I thought FA’s statement was incredibly weak and frankly disgraceful. It obviously wasn’t a small minority. It was hundreds at the very least chanting ‘za dom spremni’. It was hundreds at the very least booing the welcome to country. Downplaying it to the extent that they did just makes them look like either fools or enablers. It was ridiculous.

It was a major setback and an embarrassment to football, and will definitely postpone the NSD as people get reminded of the kind of primitive nationalistic nonsense the ethnic clubs always brought to the game. As for Sydney United, the whole club should be forcibly disbanded. It was always a fascist club and explicitly so.

for too long the football fans felt the FFA never had their back

i thought the response was measured and appropriately worded but not something stupidly over the top like the old FFA would of done - only PC idiots want the book thrown at SU58 and i would suggest the majority of them have never attended at football in their life

The MSM had almost NO coverage on the Australia cup final and the only 'post' game coverage has been about the transgressions that occurred kind of shows the MSM do not care what the FA do to try make things right so why attack your own fans

Hilarious the welcome to country was disrespected, when it’s existence is disrespectful to ever non aboriginal Australian.

as a non-1st nations person im unsure if it is or isnt something that 1st nations people support i'd hazard to guess some 1st nations people love it and some hate it like any community people agree and disagree

this is why a 1st nations voice in parliament is a fucken stupid idea 1 person 'should not' speak for a group of people without being elected - i full support more 1st nations people being in parliament via the democratic process in which we have more now then ever before

i dont like  welcome to country because i feel like it is white colonialist way of 'pandering' to left wing nut jobs whilst trying to 'shift' the blame for the horrible shit on everyone else.

Croatian and all other Ethnics did not 'hurt' the 1st nations people but for some reason we are meant to pander to 1st nations people because White colonialist butchered and treated 1st nations people like Animals/property/slaves when they came to Australia

what needs to be remembered is ethnics were treated piss poor by white colonialist descends never forget the 'white Australia policy' was why we are 'called Wogs' - the Individuals last night cannot be defended by from some of there point of views they feel that colonialist are trying to PUSH their guilt on them. The same people that were racists to them are now calling them RACIST and forcing them to pander and be apologetic to 1st nations people for Sins they nor there ancestors did not commit.

i dont support the behavior but from their point of view welcome to country is 'bullshit' it had no place to them, it should be and always has been the evils of the British settlers that the 1st nations people should hold accountable dont 'draw' all of us in with those slave trading, murders

we are all 'Australian' but we aren't all descents of convicts  and by convicts i mean murders who treated 1st nations people like shit

although i dont support welcome to country or any other pandering i do think 1st nations people do need a public holiday celebrating their culture in which welcome to country and acknowledgment of elders past and present should be 'respected'

Convenient that you leave out the Nazi salutes in the crowd, the Ustase symbolism and the "Za dom spremni" chants

Ban the Club from FA competition for 2 years.

Effective.

Needs to be a points deduction if this happens in a second division. Then clubs will have motive to police their own fans or get relegated.

Brate, you're fighting a loosing battle with some here. I think your approach has been pretty measured but ironically the loudest voices fighting against fascism in this country tend to use xenophobic and racist language themselves.....  The overall message seems to be "if these nazis dont like Australia they can go back to their own countries"  dont bother, its the internet.
I thought the atmosphere the Cro fans provided was absolutely great and a lot tamer than I thought they may get... The Nazi right wing shit is just that "shit" Stupid try hard dickheads trying to dabble in stuff they dont understand ...... Not fair on the rest who where just there to support their club and community...

Could you explain if the Aleague crowd troubles involving homophobia, racism, flares, bleach throwing at children, bottle throwing at women's matches etc etc has EVER lead to points deductions? Is it just "certain" clubs that need to be punished?

Roar in me Blood - 2 Oct 2022 9:48 AM
I'm glad I missed the pricks singing during the anthem, booing the Welcome to Country and the nazi bullshit. Would have spoiled the atmosphere completely for me.

As I mentioned in the Socceroos v NZ thread, the Welcome to Country at Suncorp was devoid of political and pc crap and a genuine, reasonable welcome from someone whose family has real history with the area, cared about moving on together, and the positives for sport and life in doing that. Simple message, honestly delivered; relevant!

The disrespect will always be around by wankers who think they are making a statement about their relevance and importance. We saw it at Suncorp too with one or two weak dickheads who needed to whistle during the silence for the Queen. Attention seeking turds who need to be simply turfed out without ceremony and ignored by everyone except the police where necessary.

I could not make out many of the chanted words over the TV - once I did pick out "Sydney Croatia" - so for me the chants were just noise and atmosphere and added to the spectacle.

For those thinking that Macarthur should have scored a lot more goals, and that SU might have been a bit lucky I would say that football is always going to be one side more skilful than the other. The way SU defended and held on, then took their own opportunities to advance with the ball was quite incredible to watch. The fast and accurate interplay was never lessened or negated by their 'higher level' opponents and on any other day some of those raids would have ended up in the net too.

A real contest with a genuine and deserving winner, and no shame for the loser on the pitch.

Agree RoarIMB, was a highly entertaining match as a neutral. I thought SU58s two half backs where immense, Trifirio changed the game coming on with his tasty passing and the big lad up top that came on late #9 should have started earlier in the half as they could have snuck one in and changed the game in the 15-20 minute spell they had... Actually very tasty football for a club that finished mid table, made up of players who probably worked a full week on the tools leading up to the match and their season finshed over a month ago. The SU58 faithful should be very very proud of their lads, well played.
The Aleague team was remarkably unconditioned, cramping up and running out of gas in the dying minutes, its only 3 or 4 weesk out from their season start isn't it? They should be well on the way to match fitness (as so called professionals) by now?

There wasn’t 16k there to support United. 75% of that crowd was there to support Croatian nationalism. Sydney United:a football were just an entity that brought them together. They could’ve been playing fiddlesticks for all that mattered to them.

At the end of the day they’ve completely hung themselves and look like idiiots. The more they deny or try and point in another direction or ply the victim now the more idiotic they look.

Mate, these fascist far right morons are not consigned to just one race unfortunately...  MSM isnt racist, just feeds on indignation as you well know and call out on many other issues. I dont agree with one "race" welcoming another "race" to a country we all have commonality from either. Booing it was pretty childish but no worse than many other reactions to this new, contrived, social normality we are all living with.
Point is, to answer your question about what the MS would be talking about today without these incidents ........ NOTHING. Would have had a 2 min mention on Offsiders, a 5 min video grab of Dwight and Davilla lifting the cup on Channel 10 news and maybe a little bit  more on SBS and thats it ...... NOTHING .... these "angry little foreigners" would have made MSM editors wet their pants in excitement on Saturday.

The most frustrating thing for me is it puts some people in a position to say ‘no NSD, it’s too much of a risk’
(even though I don’t believe that is true, you can see how they can easily say it now).

Does anyone honestly think certain Aleague fan groups would NOT have openly booed a middle aged bird waffling on about stuff they have no interest in?

The same bloke who whinges like a crazy dog because his sad little ethnic team can't play in the top tier of football complains about our indigenous people having a right to have a say.

True, Macarthur board would kill to go back to King Tom again and actually have that sort of fan appeal :)
